Bit of a frivolous one, sorry. It's my 40th this weekend Shock and we're going out for some food and drinks etc. I obviously had a plan at the beginning of the year that I was going to go on a 6-month detox health kick and feel fabulous.... I obviously carried on eating biscuits, drinking gallons of coffee and dealing with stress via the medium of wine (as opposed to yoga and jogging...). I look tired and bloaty (and am fat). Any genius suggestions for little ways to pep myself up before seeing 20 of my closest friends and family??

Spanx, blow dry and Mac makeover.

Have fun!

Pinkvici22 · 15/05/2018 08:09

Long bath and exfoliate, tan, get your nails done, drink a ton of water over the next few days and get some good sleep! Most of all, enjoy your birthday Flowers

Give up drinking for three days, and go to bed as early as you can. Get your hair done if you can. Use a face mask (but ASAP in case it brings any spots to the surface). Buy some decent fat pants. Buy a new dress to wear on the night- and this is the important bit that I usually fail on- buy one that suits/fits the size you are now, rather than the size you want to be.

Failing any of that, just have a few glasses of Prosecco and you'll soon be so cheery you won't care.

beyondthesky · 15/05/2018 08:13

For me the quickest and easiest way to lose bloat fast is to cut carbs. Three days can make a big difference.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 15/05/2018 08:14

Gradual tan a few days before and again two days before... eyebrows done, hairdcut x

calzone · 15/05/2018 08:16

Definitely hair, eyebrows and tan.

What are you wearing?

procrastinationsupremo · 15/05/2018 08:17

Aw thanks everyone, they're all great ideas! Will buy a face mask today and see if I can book a manicure Smile. I'm a bit weird about clothes, so might not feel as confident in a new outfit as an old faithful, but maybe I can get some new jewellery or something... Hadn't thought of a tan, but I'm pale blue so that could be good! I'm rubbish at drinking water so will start now and who knows if I manage it for 3 days, maybe it'll stick!

Cut carbs and get nails done. Maybe hair too depending on what kind of hair you have.

procrastinationsupremo · 15/05/2018 08:18

beyond I had wondered about whether it would be worth cutting out carbs till Friday evening, but wasn't sure if it would make any difference in 3 days, but maybe I'll go for it!

For the next 3 days, ditch the coffee and wine and ditch as much processed food and sugar as you can possibly manage. Try to make some nice salads and buy some yoghurts and mix with fruit and a bit of honey for pudding instead.

  1. Drink hot water and lemon instead of tea or coffee

  2. Drink pints and pints of water every day

  3. Drink a homemade superfood smoothie every day ( blend spinach, broccoli, kale, avocado, chia seeds, 1/4 lemon and some fresh mint, a spoonful of Bioglan Supergreens Plus and one of Nature's Heart Cacao Superpowder and apple juice and a few icecubes) Get yourself to Holland & Barrett!

  4. Get yourself a scrubby mitt and exfoliate every inch!

  5. Book yourself in for a St Tropez spray tan

  6. Book in for a decent haircut and highlights.

Sciurus83 · 15/05/2018 08:19

Haircut)colour if needed, blow dry/style on the day, spray tan 2-3 days before, nails, brows

procrastinationsupremo · 15/05/2018 08:20

My hair is pretty short already, but maybe I could get a little fringe trim so it looks sharper (I have bob with fringe).

Glycolic acid wipes (nip and fab are good) and a low % retinol (like the ordinary) will take a few years off you. Wink

SilverHairedCat · 15/05/2018 08:23

Go and get a new bra fitted. A good bra changes your entire body shape.

Clarins fake tan body drops are amazing for fellow blue people. All over body scrub first of course.

Look at your posture - shoulders down and back, head up straight, tummy in and see what a difference it makes!

Talith · 15/05/2018 08:24

Defo bin the wine and drink more water. I'd suggest not buggering around with any new facial products, just stick with your tried and tested. Maybe a manicure. If you're gonna get a tan go for a spray one 36 hours before as sunbeds won't make much difference in three days and aren't good for you. Have fun!

AjasLipstick · 15/05/2018 08:38

DO NOT get a "tan" if you're very pale OP. You will look odd...stay white.

I know...I went there.

AgathaF · 15/05/2018 08:45

No carbs or alcohol, lots of water. Fake tan, maybe colour hair. Manicure. Decent underwear.

Furano · 15/05/2018 08:45

Defo get yourself some spanx, and an outfit that fits you well and you feel fab in. If you feel fab you will look fab.

Hair cut, manicure, make up.

Enjoy!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/05/2018 08:48

A professional blow dry makes everything great. Ditto a fabulous new perfume.

If I ever completely cut out caffeine I'm hit by awful headaches and feel like shit so a little warning there.
No point putting yourself through torture for the next few days Grin

Happy 40th!

Twoo · 15/05/2018 08:52

I love these type of threads...

  • Water, water and water
  • Paint your finger and toe nails
  • Try and get a fringe trim, I always feel like it makes a massive difference for me
  • Book in at somewhere like John Lewis or Debenhams to get your make up done (usually something like £20 and that is then deducted off any make up you may want to buy) If you can’t do that a nice lipstick
  • New statement piece of jewellery or scarf (depending on your look)
  • Heels
  • Eat healthier the next few days, it may not do much but you’ll feel better for it
  • Nice long bath with a face mask and hair treatment
  • New matching underwear, maybe even some suck you in type number

From experience I’d leave the tanning, it could go really bad and you do not want that! I’m super pale and had a spray tan once Hmm

Good luck and I hope you have a great time celebrating!
