Bit of a frivolous one, sorry. It's my 40th this weekend Shock and we're going out for some food and drinks etc. I obviously had a plan at the beginning of the year that I was going to go on a 6-month detox health kick and feel fabulous.... I obviously carried on eating biscuits, drinking gallons of coffee and dealing with stress via the medium of wine (as opposed to yoga and jogging...). I look tired and bloaty (and am fat). Any genius suggestions for little ways to pep myself up before seeing 20 of my closest friends and family??

Beware trying any new dramatic beauty treatments. Eg; don't try to wax your top lip an hour before the party. You'll end up dazzling your guests with a bright red moustache.

The same with facials- some leave you looking like the elephant man with weals all over your face where they've "cleared" your pores. Confused

Hair cut, manicure, pedicure, new outfit, new bra and make an effort with your make up. Have a fabulous time looking your best - and then resolve to look your best every day in your forties. Go on a health kick and try and lose the weight by all means, but don’t wait until you’ve reached your goal to make an effort in all other areas. Look your best all the time!

Book an LVL for eyelashes. Google for a salon in your area. Makes your own eyelashes look like you have long false lashes but last for weeks. Book a brow shape at the same time. Makes you look instantly younger. Much better than itchy false lashes. Tan's a great idea too.

Make sure your teeth are clean, get a stain removing toothpaste. Wear a lovely smile.

specialsubject · 15/05/2018 09:01

ffs. this thread is babble central.

detox is bollocks.superfoods are nonsense. mushing up good food into a smoothie is a great way to get fat.

swill less,eat properly ,move about.

Cutting carbs etc won't make a difference in 3 days.
What will is water, sleep, no booze.
Moisturise and exfoliate your skin, use hemorrhoid cream under your eyes to reduce swelling.
Get a polish from the dentist so your smile looks sparkling clean.
Manicure/pedicure and blow dry.
Get a light spray tan, emphasis on light!
You said your not good with clothes, but find an outfit you love from home and perhaps try to replicate with a new version so you look sharp.
Most of all relax and enjoy yourself - happy birthday op.

Onthewrongsideof30 · 15/05/2018 09:04

Oh and eyebrows threaded. Good underwear. Go to MAC and get your make up done. Best to book x

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 15/05/2018 09:08

Calm down special I agree, unless you've got serious liver failure, your body can expel all toxins but only one poster suggested drinking a smoothie.
Avoiding heavy carbs for a few days can prevent bloating.

There's nothing wrong with taking a bit of care with your appearance to make yourself feel better.

AdoraBell · 15/05/2018 09:09

Cut down on the coffee, but as pp said, cutting out completely can be worse. I would start with cutting 1 today, 2 tomorrow etc. and increase water intake.

YY to hair trim and treatment and well fitting outfit.

Then enjoy birthday 🎂

Lweji · 15/05/2018 09:09

I wouldn't go for a tan if you're pale blue.
It tends to yellow your completion.

I'd rather make sure I got an outfit and accessories that go well with my skin.
And don't go for darker colours. Try a few brighter ones and you'll probably feel happier about yourself.

Luisa27 · 15/05/2018 09:16

I do this regularly for special occasions - usually 3/4 days before the event. AND IT WORKS! Smile

  1. Water Water Water - I drink 3-4 litres a day

  2. Cut out ALL carbs

  • I actually do a strict nutribullet diet in these situations - all veg - no fruit apart from avocado and tomatoes - honestly it works unbelievably and you’ll feel amazing. I usually lose up to 7lbs in around 4 days - it’s all water obvs - but the results are excellent. My skin glows - literally!
If I NEED to eat something I’ll have a boiled egg or a tiny piece of poached salmon. 3) Finally, as others have said - good underwear and a blow dry! Have a fabulous 40th!! Flowers
NotUmbongoUnchained · 15/05/2018 09:19

Do you have a college local to you? They do cheap treatments. My sil went and had a body wrap which lost her a few inches and a non surgical facelift. She looked amazing and it only cost her 30 quid!

LanguidLobster · 15/05/2018 09:20

Perricone diet for 3 days (google - only if you like salmon though!), lots of healthy liquids, pampering, face mask

Luisa27 · 15/05/2018 09:21

Oooh - and an Epsom Salt bath is a great detox too - you can buy the salts from Boots Smile

RedPandaMama · 15/05/2018 09:25

I'd agree with the low carbs thing. I'm a carboholic and started low carbing on Friday (less than 50g carbs a day, no artificial foods everything homemade) and my stomach looks so much flatter and I'm 4kg down. I know that's mostly water weight but honestly my clothes all fit so much better already and I feel great. The first day was hard but track everything in MFP and go to bed early to avoid drinking alcohol or snacking on chocolate. It works!

Luisa27 · 15/05/2018 09:26

Agree with @Greengrassofhome - this gives an instant facelift

Luisa27 · 15/05/2018 09:27

Yes Redpandamama! 🕺🏼🎉

twinkledag · 15/05/2018 09:28

Stop eating carbs!

Westwing1 · 15/05/2018 09:39

Hi Procrastination, thank you for this thread, exact same problem here except it's my 50th this weekend. I was going to be a slim size 10 again but haven't put the work in. I am going to try to what Luisa27 recommends, have just booked haircut, mani/pedi for Friday morning, too blue and nervous to try tanning.

MaryThorne · 15/05/2018 09:52

Plenty of sleep, eat real, unprocessed food, meditation/mindfulness (download an app on your phone and spend 10 minutes a day). Cut out sugary things as much as possible. Plenty of other good ideas on here too re haircut etc.

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 15/05/2018 09:56

in 3 days:
a brisk half hour walk every day
water
sleep
ditch processed foods

then carry on forever

manicure, eyebrows & blowdry

Tryagaintomorrow · 15/05/2018 10:01

Another one for cutting carbs and reducing sugar (and the booze sadly, but I’m another Wino)
IMO I feel a lot less bloated after a couple days of that.
Sparkling water with a bit of fresh lime is always a good refresher if you need a kick!
Get out in this sun if you can, but don’t get sunburnt!
Also yay for spanxs. I’ve got some great ones that go knee to boob.
