she bought DS1 a box of magic tricks for Easter and he has been incessantly perfoming them since then.

aarrrgh! I hate - absolutely totally LOATHE - magic. I can barely stand it when it's on TV, but I'd never ever in a million years voluntarily go watch a magic show and nwo I have them daily IN MY LIVING ROOM.

She hates me.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 13/05/2018 20:30

If she gets him a drum kit for Christmas, you’ll know for sure

Andrewofgg · 13/05/2018 20:32

And a trumpet!

Allthewaves · 13/05/2018 20:33

Give him something to film himself then he can watch himself back

NotWeavingButDarning · 13/05/2018 20:36

Video every single time.
And send them all to your MIL Grin

Everexpandingwaistline · 13/05/2018 20:38

Start plotting your revenge for Christmas, maybe a nice big GLITTERY card plus more GLITTERY shite for the mantlepiece. Make sure there's loads of GLITTER so she'll still be hoovering it up come next Easter!

TheBogWitchIsBack · 13/05/2018 20:39

Playdough, glitter and stickers ..they are the real signs.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 13/05/2018 20:39

Oh no! My PIL gave all of my nieces boxes of magic tricks for Christmas. It ruined Christmas Day or at least, I ruined Christmas Day when I shouted that I could see the card in DN's hand the 50th time she did the 'trick'.

Didiplanthis · 13/05/2018 20:41

Mine did that too. It's dreadful....

AJPTaylor · 13/05/2018 20:45

Nah.
A fucking recorder is worse

FinallyHere · 13/05/2018 20:53

A drum of lego type small pieces of hard plastic. Will spread across the floor and get everywhere.

Curlygirly · 13/05/2018 20:56

Made me laugh as I hate magic too. Really hate magicians at a party that go and do magicy things among the guests.

UserV · 13/05/2018 20:56

Wow what a grump you sound OP!

I would LOVE my kids to perform magic tricks for me!

YABU.

tempester28 · 13/05/2018 20:56

Don't forget unicorn poo and other assorted goo and not forgetting goo with glitter.

Singlenotsingle · 13/05/2018 20:57

But the present was a roaring success. Ds loved it! Grin

HollowTalk · 13/05/2018 20:58

Oh my son was really into magic. I miss those days of coming home to be greeted with "Pick a card! Any card!" and then the sound of heavy breathing as he tried to figure out what to do next.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/05/2018 21:00

Loom bands and Hama Beads to play with "at grannies house"

And if you really want to up the ante , Fruit Millions , get a huge jar from The Range and spill them , they're like glue on a floor. Not so good for your child's teeth though.

My MIL hates me obvs because she tries to sneak meat into my food even though I've been a vegetarian since I was 14yo , feigns surprise that oh is pepperoni not the same as peppers

Erm no Hmm

RainbowGlitterFairy · 13/05/2018 21:02

Was it the gigantic box with many tiny pieces? My MIL bought it for DD for Christmas. Other years have included a slime factory, a recorder and a guitar so yes, I think she hates me too.

Motherofallbeasts · 13/05/2018 21:06

Oh god the magic set! My DB head one and wore a little waistcoat and bow tie to do his show. I hated it but Kindly humoured him - dying inside. DM found it and gave the set and the outfit to DS - she knew exactly what she was doing and could barely contain her mirth!

Justmuddlingalong · 13/05/2018 21:09

The real magic trick is not slipping into a coma, while your DS performs his wee heart out.

Tinkobell · 13/05/2018 21:25

My BIL once gave DS age 5 a kazoo just before we had to drive home to UK from south of France. I hated him for that.
Give your DS a lovely voovoozela just before he goes and stops over at Grandmas!

Leeds2 · 13/05/2018 21:26

Arrange a sleepover for DS at MIL's. Get him to take the magic tricks, so he can show her how good he has got at performing the. Buy him a magician's outfit to go with it; I'm sure it will add extra oomph to his performance!

Aprilmightbemynewname · 13/05/2018 21:27

Make him concentrate on the disappearing section and he can try it out on mil!!

LockedOutOfMN · 13/05/2018 21:29

Invite MIL over "for lunch" one weekend. When she arrives, announce that DS wants to show her his magic tricks. Barricade them in the lounge, saying you're going to make lunch. Go upstairs and have a relaxing bath, or a nap, or watch some TV, or read. When you're done, call some Domino's Pizzas, and let the ring of the doorbell with the pizza delivery signal the end of the magic.

crumbsinthecutlerydrawer · 13/05/2018 21:29

Oh, ds was bought one of these after asking for it and was heartbroken. He was convinced magic was real and when he opened the set and realised it was all just tricks he was gutted. He was only 6 at the time.
