. Had to de-lice DD last night and feel really itchy at work today. Just a thought!

No I don't think it's unreasonable but you have to let them decide, they may think it's a bit ewww and you shouldn't be offended by this.
Personally it wouldn't bother me as I have had to do my own kids hair a million times! but everyone has different yuck tolerences

mateychops · 17/05/2007 12:37

Oh, for the love of.....DON'T DO IT!

sandyballs · 17/05/2007 12:38

I ought to add that she's childless. Perhaps she wouldn't understand/be horrified/throw up .

Unless you're very good friends, I'd think it a bit odd tbh.

PinkTulips · 17/05/2007 12:40

pmsl

can't hurt to ask surely? [innocent expression]

Aaaarrrrggggghhhhh · 17/05/2007 12:41

is it possible to use a hand mirror and check yourself? perhaps in the loo or something for a bit of privacy

mateychops · 17/05/2007 12:42

She won't be able to get into the loo, the colleague will be in their throwing up.

kslatts · 17/05/2007 12:43

I wouldn't ask anyone at work to check my hair for nits, but if it was a good friend I would.

Aaaarrrrggggghhhhh · 17/05/2007 12:55

Lol @ mateychops, horrible images in my head now thank you

OrmIrian · 17/05/2007 13:02

Do you really dislike her? If so this is a surefire way of ensuring she never talks or sits near you again

Mind you... I am in the same state as you and would love someone to come and sit next to me and go through my hair monkey-style.

sandyballs · 17/05/2007 13:11

Ok, I've decided against it . Feel terribly itchy though. Found 4 bloody great nits in DD's hair last night, vile little things. And she makes such a screaming, fannying fuss about the conditioning/combing process, it's all so stressful. She's the one with the short hair that seems to get nits every few months yet her sister with long hair never gets them .

Still looking across at my colleague, wondering whether to broach the subject .

OrmIrian · 17/05/2007 13:13

That is odd isn't it sandy? My DD who has the same length hair as her brother gets thousands of the little b*ggers, DS#1 get one or two at most. I wondered if it was a gender thing but maybe not..

mateychops · 17/05/2007 13:14

I think it's more to do with who they are around - if they are in different classes, maybe there is one persistent offender?

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 17/05/2007 13:22

sandy, please ask her now and then describe her reaction to us in detail

sandyballs · 17/05/2007 13:31

She's gone out for lunch. I'll broach the subject on her return, when she's got a nice full stomach .

I'm not anticipating a very good reaction tbh - she's quite a sensitive soul .

I would ask a CLOSE FRIEND but never a colleague. WTF would you do if she found one?

you can't check your own hair very well anyway, but the only way to really be sure is to wet comb with conditioner and look at what is on the comb - ideally get someone else to do this if you have long hair, as it isn't physically possible to do a good job otherwise

Depends where you work. If it's a school, for instance, that's a perfectly normal everyday request. In a 'smart' office job, I wouldn't have thought it's the thing to do.
