'Cheeky'

Cheeky pint, cheeky glass of wine, cheeky date, cheeky takeaway, cheeky night out. Hmm

Just stop it. AIBU to agree with this?

'An originally harmless and inoffensive word, cheeky had now been claimed by morons for sticking in front of almost any mundane activity you can think if in a vague attempt to make it sound more interesting by trying to imply that they shouldn't be doing it, therefore thinking they somehow look "cooler" or more "badass" because of it.'

You forgot cheeky nandos!

JenBarber · 12/05/2018 08:01

I'm currently having a cheeky cup of tea in my cheeky dressing gown.

YABU and cheeky.

GrannyGrissle · 12/05/2018 08:01

Does anyone still actually say this? I think you are afew years too late OP.

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 08:02

'Cheeky Nando's' Angry

Granny
I don't say it and never have. Maybe your circle of friends realised long ago how stupid they sound. Sadly, not everyone has caught on.

HellenaHandbasket · 12/05/2018 08:04

A friend of a friend constantly says this. Tagging mutual friend in cheeky this and cheeky that...and "antics", always 'antics'.

Anniegetyourgun · 12/05/2018 08:05

I think when they say it nowadays it's deliberately ironic, you know, like how can a cup of tea possibly be "cheeky" (unless you've swiped someone else's) so that's why they say it. IME anyway.

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 08:06

Jen Grin Grin

Hellena I hear 'Antics' too. All those wild nights Hmm

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 08:09

Annie I wish they were being ironic!

I go on the Weight Watchers app, there's so much cheeky shit on there, kisses on the ends of messages, huns, babes...drives me potty. But dare say anything and you're a troll, a bully, don't belong on there.

Bloody ridiculous

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 08:18

I'm with you. The 'Hun/Babe' type love it.

"Deconstructed" , as used in the restaurant trade eg a "Deconstructed apple crumble " no the chef is a lazy fucker which cannot be arsed to put the crumble mixture on top of the apples.

Bubblesblue · 12/05/2018 08:22

But a cheeky Nandos tastes so much better than a normal Nandos Grin
Antics and "bants" though... very annoying

GrannyGrissle · 12/05/2018 08:22

'You got this!' is my 'cheeky'. Gah!

CryingMessFFS · 12/05/2018 08:25

Another sitting having a cheeky cup of tea here 😂 I also hate the newer one I see everywhere, ‘woke.’ I see ‘stay woke’ comments more and more now arghhhhh

FriendlyOcelot · 12/05/2018 08:28

YANBU

I fucking hate it too... someone i know on FB does it, she’s really smug with her updates and it amplifies her smugness!

I also hate ‘this one’, usually to refer to their child, as in, ‘cheeky Nando’s with this one’. It’s so condescending and 😖

Neversayever · 12/05/2018 08:28

Huh? Have I stumbled back in time?

OP you’re about 4 years behind

WhiskeySourpuss · 12/05/2018 08:29

@MrsMoastyToasty I had deconstructed kebabs last week because I'd chopped everything up before realising I had no skewers Blush

KinkyAfro · 12/05/2018 08:30

Maybe where you are never but it's still rife in some places

Possibly straying from the op a little, but while we’re at it, my worst social media catch phrase has to be #girlboss. What a pile of patriarchal shite... what do you want love, a pat in the head for being female and getting out of bed? Ack.

CatkinToadflax · 12/05/2018 08:32

'Deconstructed' makes my teeth itch because surely it should be 'unconstructed'!

There's still far too many people on my FB feed who have a cheeky this and a cheeky that, and yes it usually is with 'this one' (insert photo of two grinning heads and hashtag 'blessed').

FranticallyPeaceful · 12/05/2018 08:33

Ain’t lived til you’ve been fer a cheeky Nando’s, my friend

IWantMyHatBack · 12/05/2018 08:33

Also 'bants' and 'shenanigans' must be had whilst indulging in anything cheeky.
