'Cheeky'

Cheeky pint, cheeky glass of wine, cheeky date, cheeky takeaway, cheeky night out. Hmm

Just stop it. AIBU to agree with this?

'An originally harmless and inoffensive word, cheeky had now been claimed by morons for sticking in front of almost any mundane activity you can think if in a vague attempt to make it sound more interesting by trying to imply that they shouldn't be doing it, therefore thinking they somehow look "cooler" or more "badass" because of it.'

I'm having a cheeky extra half an hour in bed while DH makes breakfast for DS. He might even bring me up a cheeky glass of orange juice and we'll have a bit of cheeky banter when he comes up Grin

FlirtyRomanticToast · 12/05/2018 08:36

I'm typing out a cheeky response. I'm mad, me! lol
blergh

Mousefunky · 12/05/2018 08:37

“Just having a cheeky vino hun”

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 12/05/2018 08:40

'Making memories with these cheeky monkeys' - aaarghhh!

LittleBird74 · 12/05/2018 08:40

I despise cheeky Angry

wanderings · 12/05/2018 08:45

Be very careful about putting "monkey" and "cheeky" in the same sentence, there have been long threads about it! Shock

"Cheeky" was once a word feared by children because a punishment might then follow.

WheelyCote · 12/05/2018 10:02

Long threads about 'monkey' and the other word😳

I'm guessing it's seen as bad?? I've said it over the years

Use of the word moron winds me up more than cheeky.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 12/05/2018 10:15

Apologies Wanderlings - merely a phrase used by one of my friends on FB!!

Smeddum · 12/05/2018 10:17

I do twitch at all of these but I have a particular hatred of the word hun. Mostly because growing up catholic in the west of Scotland it means something entirely different to me.

divadee · 12/05/2018 10:19

"Making memories" grates my cheese on social media. No Susan taking the kids to the supermarket so they can fuck around in the trolley when they should be walking is not "making memories" it's being an annoying twat to everyone around you and also being disgusting to people who have to put the food in the trolley after your "darlings" have stood all over it.

And breathe.

moralminority · 12/05/2018 12:40

I don't like it either. I'm on a few holiday pages where people ask for recommendations and finish their request with And go!! I just think 'and go fuck off' and keep scrolling.

wanderings · 12/05/2018 15:03

@MilkTrayLimeBarrel I don't mind that phrase at all - I'm just amused by the discourse it sometimes brings. Wink

LadyRochfordsHoickedGusset · 12/05/2018 15:07

Cheeky fuckers Grin.

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 15:18

Use of the word moron winds me up more than cheeky.

It's an on-line definition hence the '..' but yes, I get your point!

Complaining about social media language such as "cheeky" and "hun" etc has been done to death. It makes me wonder who these people are who still don't get how stupid they sound.

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 17:10

finding it may have been done to death if you're a MN regular but for me, not really! Seems that my workplace/ FB friends need to fast forward 4/5 years and just stop.

Warning - this link might give you an annoying ear-worm

Louiselouie0890 · 12/05/2018 17:36

I find it bizarre someone wants to control what people say.

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 23:52

People have the right to use whatever words they like - I have the right to wish they'd shut up!

InspMorse · 12/05/2018 23:54

Screaming I forgot all about them! Awful!! Grin
