To wonder what will mark us out as old people?

You know how you see old people out and about with stuff that is firmly of their era?
Examples:
Headscarves
Suits
Hankies
Stockings
Face powder
Etc

What do you think will mark us out when we're old? Or are the "rules" so relaxed now we'll just look like the young people but wrinkly?

Im thinking smartphones will have wildly changed but we'll still be doddering around with our galaxies
Straightened hair
Those of us who are smokers will truly stick out and young people will be like "omg! Look! An old woman with an actual cigarette!" a bit like how we feel when we see an old man smoking a pipe.

I wonder about this too. Will care homes have nutribullets and serve cappuccinos and kale? Will they play Wham, Kate Bush, Frankie goes to Hollywood? I hope to still be wearing lycra leggings and t shirts etc

Eliza9917 · 11/05/2018 19:31

Garage music, square nails. Can't think of much else.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 11/05/2018 19:31

Sleeve tattoos Grin

Singlenotsingle · 11/05/2018 19:32

Tattoos, both men and women.

BrightonCalling · 11/05/2018 19:32

@ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo
OMFG! Yes! All wrinkly and tattooed, the young ones will be like "holy shit - check that out!"

Face powder suits and stockings are only for old people? I'm crushed.

MaireadMacSweeney · 11/05/2018 19:35

Old men with man buns and hipster beards Grin

SmilingButClueless · 11/05/2018 19:37

Skinny jeans will be in the ‘classics’ section of M&S replacing the fugly high-waisted pleated trousers.

ferntwist · 11/05/2018 19:37

Eek I wear face powder and I’m young(ish). Is it not okay anymore? I’d be shiny as anything without it

UpstartCrow · 11/05/2018 19:38

Dr Martens Grin

AlphaNumericalSequence · 11/05/2018 19:42

It's def going to be wrinkly saggy tattoos, all folded over so you can only see half the image.

All the youngsters will laugh and say, 'What? they had spent money on everything else and the only other thing they could think of was stamping their consumerism directly onto their flesh?'

extrapianolessons · 11/05/2018 19:42

Yep, tattoos.

Beautiful semi-permanent technologically advanced tattoos will soon be the thing and the old fashioned present day ones will mark out the oldies I reckon.

BrightonCalling · 11/05/2018 19:44

You know what I mean guys, the old fashioned really heavy scented face powder, not the sheer bare mineralsy sort!

@SmilingButClueless
Nice one, yes and young people will wear skinny jeans as a retro fashion statement, possibly accidentally mixing up the eras and pairing them with boob tubes.

I think old people are already not looking like old people anymore. The world of crimpoline slacks and plastic rain hoods is passing, we are reaching a point where the people in their 70s were mods and hippies now. All my life my life the older and oldest members of society were those who had fought in wars, but it the last ww1 veteran died several years back, it won’t be that many more years before the last ww2 veterans pass. Most people I know of 65 and over dress and style themselves much the same as those of 40 plus.

BrightonCalling · 11/05/2018 19:45

@BluthsFrozenBananas
Thats true enough, and in a way that makes me sad for some reason.

I got a bad tattoo when I was 15 in a dodgy parlour. It looks like a blur now. I dread to think what it will look like when I’m 80 Grin

welshmist · 11/05/2018 19:47

Lying down on the beach and their boobs still standing up to attention.

Graphista · 11/05/2018 19:47

I've already been reliably informed by dd that bobs are an old persons hairstyle... I was a bit thrown at first then realised she was right because that's the style my mum and all my aunts have.

I'm mid 40's so already old as far as teens concerned. Definitely smoking, beer seems to be going out of fashion too.

bitmynailbrokemytooth · 11/05/2018 19:49

ferntwist - the problem with face powder is that it sits in the wrinkles and makes the face look older. It does on my face anyway. I'm wearing less make-up the older I get.

It may very well be tattoos, also I agree with real cigarettes.

ScreamingValenta · 11/05/2018 19:50

Headscarves
Suits
Hankies
Stockings
Face powder

Perhaps by the time we are old, these will have come back into fashion for the young. They will be wearing twinsets and rain mates, we'll be in jeans and t-shirts.

applesandpears56 · 11/05/2018 19:50

If you are a smoker it’s ok you likely aren’t to live long enough to be an old woman anyway! Smile

welshmist · 11/05/2018 19:50

You see women in their sixties and seventies, walking around River Island, New Look buying clothes, so I guess as long as they are interested in how they look, clothing will not be an indicator. Minor dents in cars will still be an indicator.

PositiveVibez · 11/05/2018 19:51

Old men with man buns and hipster beards😂

Maybe old ladies with slug like brows

Left over semi-perm make up

I agree though with an OP who says that the 'old person's look has gone now.

My mum is in her 70s and dresses really nice. Not in a muttony way, but quite fashionable for her age, as do most of her peers - male and female.

Not many cauliflower heads about any more.

BrightonCalling · 11/05/2018 19:53

Re the smoking, maybe the new on trend young people restaurants will serve dips and stuff in ashtrays, like the jar thing. Or maybe retro loving young people will find zippos in flea markets and collect them.

It's ok folks, don't worry about any of that- we'll be conspicuously absent as we will have died early from obesity related diseases.

As you were....
