Sorry if there is another thread about this, I couldn't find one.

But seriously, just no?!

No! Why? I've spent all my money on my child - why give him more!

Frogletmamma · 08/05/2018 18:09

No we should be giving it to 45 yo

honeysucklejasmine · 08/05/2018 18:11

Is this a news story? Have you got a link?

19lottie82 · 08/05/2018 18:11

It will never happen.

savingin2018welltryingto · 08/05/2018 18:12

I agree it will never happen. Sorry I can't do links on here but yes it is.

GothMummy · 08/05/2018 18:12

Its only a theoretical idea.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 08/05/2018 18:12

We can't afford nurses, teachers or carers but can afford this?

ConstantlyCold · 08/05/2018 18:12

I don’t know, maybe it has merits. Something needs to be done to try and redistribute wealth and help younger people get on the housing ladder.

You could only release it for housing / education / some other worthy thing I can’t think of.

halfwitpicker · 08/05/2018 18:12

Huh

stressed3000 · 08/05/2018 18:14

It won’t happen but I think something does need to be done re inter generational inequality.

FaFoutis · 08/05/2018 18:14

I think it is a good idea but it will never happen.

Tobebythesea · 08/05/2018 18:15

Same as FaFoutis.

ClaryFray · 08/05/2018 18:16

Yanbu.

Living wage. Making morgages more accessible.

Storm4star · 08/05/2018 18:18

I wouldn't be hugely surprised if it was given to get people on the housing ladder, thereby tying them up with mortgages to keep them wage slaves for the rest of their lives. But I'm a cynic like that!

Rainboho · 08/05/2018 18:18

How does it make sense to charge tuition fees and get people into student debt (I know this doesn’t apply to all) and then randomly give out 10k? And if everyone had it at a certain age would that just defeat the object?

Tigerpaws57 · 08/05/2018 18:19

Cut tuition fees? Put some more money into the nhs? If funds can be raised they should benefit society in general in some way, not be given to individuals without qualification other than their chronological age. So a 25 year old will get it but not his 27 year old brother? Someone on 50 grand a year will get it as long as they were fortunate enough to be born in the right year?

stressed3000 · 08/05/2018 18:20

Storm4star that’s probably the plan as the gov is desperate to prop up the housing market

FleurDelacoeur · 08/05/2018 18:21

Ridiculous idea. Will never happen though.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 08/05/2018 18:21

They're not millenials they're the next generation. Millenials could actually do with the money as they're the ones without stability

RedSkyAtNight · 08/05/2018 18:22

This feels like addressing the symptom rather than the cause. Surely people would rather make their own way if at all possible? Which means there are entry level jobs (with proper pay, not zero hour contracts) available and access to affordable housing.

NewYearNewMe18 · 08/05/2018 18:23

Its not going to happen, it's an idea - which wont get past the silver voters

LoislovesStewie · 08/05/2018 18:23

More sensible to end tuition fees, build more social housing and encourage businesses to set up in areas where housing is cheaper. But what do I know?

CarrieBlue · 08/05/2018 18:24

It’ll never happen, anymore than getting baby boomers to pay for their increased use of the NHS. Sadly.

Glumglowworm · 08/05/2018 18:26

Oh calm down. It will never ever happen.
