To be annoyed about this raffle prize?

I donated a pair of sunglasses as a raffle prize to a friend who was raising money for a marathon she did a few weeks ago. Didn't think anything of it until I saw her wearing them this weekend. She said they'd had too many prizes after all so she'd decided to just keep them. Confused . I said that I'd donated them for charity not to just give them away to her, and she gave me them back but was was very put out and said I shouldn't give gifts I wanted back! Wtf, they weren't a gift?? Aibu??

YANBU, she was both cheeky and unethical!

Returnofthesmileybar · 08/05/2018 13:26

OohMavis · 08/05/2018 13:26

Fuck me that's cheeky Grin

helloflamingogo · 08/05/2018 13:26

Of course not! Poor form on her part.

19lottie82 · 08/05/2018 13:26

YANBU! Tell her she can keep them in return for an £X donation to the charity she was fundraising for..... otherwise you want them back!

AndInOtherNews · 08/05/2018 13:26

Well no YANBU..she cant take her pick from the donated prizes can she? She'll be off on a spa day next week, another surplus prize!

WetsTheVet · 08/05/2018 13:27

Well I'm glad to hear I've not lost my marbles. I couldn't believe her attitude about it, still can't!

oh my word, sorry this made me laugh. absolute CF

RuggerHug · 08/05/2018 13:31

Fucking hell.....any way you can either ask in front of people or post somewhere 'by the way, what was the final total amount you raised for donating to X?'. Because I would be highly suspicious of someone who did that, donations could have gone on helping her train or anything.

-cynical bint who has seen this too many times, me?-

Rosielily · 08/05/2018 13:39

I'd be interested to see a breakdown for all monies raised and subsequently donated to her charity of choice. Has she taken her expenses out, for example? Were donors aware of this at the time she was fund raising? The sunglasses could be the tip of the iceberg - I hope it isn't, but you never know.

Talith · 08/05/2018 13:48

Unless she was raising money for cheeky fuckers YANBU.

Shampaincharly · 08/05/2018 13:49

YANBU

AjasLipstick · 08/05/2018 13:52

Some people! She felt entitled because of her efforts to raise money. Stupid woman.

MrsMozart · 08/05/2018 13:53

Flipping heck! What a CF.

greendale17 · 08/05/2018 13:53

Makes you wonder what other prizes she decided to keep for herself. I wouldn’t trust her anymore.

Jaxhog · 08/05/2018 13:55

Wow! That is cheeky. Having raised donations for raffles myself in the past, ALL donations go into the raffle, even if we have to drag it out. Or we group prizes together. We NEVER keep any!

Sounds like a 'self reward' to me.

Ginkypig · 08/05/2018 13:55

How can have too many prizes?

Every donation raises money so you just raise s bit more than your target which has always been s great bonus!

She sounds like an arsehole!

ConferenceBores · 08/05/2018 13:55

Amazing - how could anyone think that was ok? If she’d donated the cost of the sunglasses to the charity it would have been ok.

ConferenceBores · 08/05/2018 13:57

I know what the confusion is - she feels the stuff was given to her, rather than because of the charity - very odd.

Viviennemary · 08/05/2018 13:57

She needs to return the prize to you. She stole your donation and should be reported to the charity in question.

SatNavRequired · 08/05/2018 13:57

This happened to me! Raising money for work. I donated lots of good quality items, and the person organising kept them for herself, or for some, if she won on the raffle, she swapped the tickets so she could get a what she wanted

missbonita · 08/05/2018 13:57

I had an issue with someone taking the piss a few years ago - similar thing where they were very cheeky then put out when I told her not to and claimed she was 'doing a lot for charity' - so what? I should expect her to steal from me?

She was the head of the PTA and a small bit of digging showed prizes being kept, fixed 'goodwill auctions', a missing case of wine left over from a summer BBQ, a gazebo purchased with PTA funds but stored at her house and used regularly for family events etc etc. When this was pointed out (not by me thank god!) she genuinely thought it was fair for her to help herself as she 'did so much'

As a wise (wo)man ponce said philanthropy is the last refuse of the scoundrel (can't remember who I'm quoting sorry!)
