I'm looking to change my car in the next few months. Current car has one year's finance left on it (£1500). I'm financially stable and will likely be commuting ~40mins to uni starting in October

I'm trying to be sensible but I've seen a Ford Galaxy that I really like. It's older than mine, but had better equipment. It's also done around 130000 miles which is putting me off a bit. tinyurl.com/y9tdxkk8.

(or if you hate that, find me something with good spec, under £4000 and within 100 miles of Sunderland!)

Thats too old and high mileage. I wouldnt buy it even for that price , it might need a lot of servicing.

QuestionableMouse · 04/05/2018 17:02

The age doesn't worry me too much. Current car is a is a '11 reg so it's only a couple of years older. Mileage I'm unsure about though I did put almost 300k miles on an old Skoda.

Thank you though, you have good points!

High price for a car like that IMO. Why do you need to change vehicle? What size do you need for the people who'll be in it?

QuestionableMouse · 04/05/2018 17:12

I need something bigger- my current car can't fit two car seats plus an adult in the back.

OP posts:
yellowmellw · 04/05/2018 17:14

You'd be really silly to buy it

lanbro · 04/05/2018 17:17

I would never buy a 2nd hand car with that mileage, lots of potential for a lot of spends on repairs. Although I wouldn't have thought you'd get anything low mileage but that size for your budget...sorry not helpful!

lanbro · 04/05/2018 17:18

I have an Astra and can fit 2 high back boosters and a slim adult in the back...or car seat in the front and 2 adults in the back

FASH84 · 04/05/2018 17:27

Not sure if that suits OP 66,000 miles 2010, 7 seat, one owner from new, full service history...

Thanks- I have a Zafira now but I'm finding it a bit of a struggle with two car seats and a disabled adult.

I make no comment on any of these but they might be options? All low mileage too.

Search options were as you specified for location and price, plus a 5 seat, 5 door, manual gearbox, front wheel drive car. Turned up a lot of small cars but a few larger ones too.

I wouldn’t necessarily be put off by mileage / age to a certain extent.

I’d be more concerned as if to the vehicle has been looked after well. How many owners? Full service history? Good visual condition? 4 matching make, decent tyres?

19lottie82 · 04/05/2018 18:00

I would swerve French cars (Renault or Citroen) of that age, they are notorious for electrical issues.

The Skoda looks a good shout of the ones listen above.

QuestionableMouse · 04/05/2018 18:14

Thank you, I'll look at those properly when I get back on my laptop. Would prefer 7 (or 5+2) seats though.

I'd love another Skoda but that's smaller than what I'm driving now.

The mileage issue depends on the kind of miles, i.e. motorway miles are much better than tootling around miles. It's also a much better bet if it's been regularly serviced and has full service history.

QuestionableMouse · 04/05/2018 18:52

The Galaxy has a full service history.

Another galaxy: www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201802173803676

SickofThomasTheTank · 04/05/2018 21:03

If it's a diesel then that mileage is not bad. Diesels can run to 250,000+ however petrols are much much different. 130,000 miles on a petrol is beyond the average mileage for scrapping

OMGtwins · 04/05/2018 21:08
