To be really disappointed with the last episode of Dexter

I’m not BU. It was shit. Robotic shitty dialogues. Sloppy...I’m sure they referred to Rio de Janeiro as a city in Argentina a few times. Crap acting. They killed Debra? Why? And he leaves his son to become a woodcutter? Wtaf?

I’ve been meaning to watch Dexter since 2006, but have only just got around to it. Took me a month but the last few seasons were shit.

I loved Dexter, but yes the last couple of episodes were really really bad. Ended on a terrible, lazy note, the writers had obviously just totally given up. A total shame when you see the amazing season 4, and what they could have done.

HateSummer · 04/05/2018 10:47

SEason 4 was brilliant, mostly due to John lithgow. It all went downhill at Doomsday Killer. Such a stupid storyline...and the whole Hannah McKay thing.

YANBU.

But to be honest I thought the last 2 series of Dexter were a bit shit.

3 and 4 were awesome tho!

Travis1 · 04/05/2018 10:49

Yup. Total shit, like just why?! Right up there with the shitty ending of Lost.

PermanentlyHungry · 04/05/2018 10:52

Agree. We loved Dexter but was really disappointed with the ending. Just got silly. Really annoying when you've invested alot of time into a series. Same with Revenge, started great but ending was rushed 👎

pepperminttaste · 04/05/2018 10:57

I watched it years ago but yes, the last episode was dire. I also hated the Lila character.

jaseyraex · 04/05/2018 11:02

I binged the whole thing last year after meaning to watch it for years. I loved it until the last two seasons, it just went downhill. You are definitely not unreasonable. The ending was utter crap.

I've not seen many shows that have had a good definitive endings though tbf. They tend to be sloppy and rushed. The finale of Lost is the prime example.

EdmundCleverClogs · 04/05/2018 11:14

I've not seen many shows that have had a good definitive endings though tbf.

Breaking Bad is meant to be a good ending (not seen the finale myself yet)

Orphan Black ended well in my opinion. As did Buffy the Vampire Slayer (though the final season did have some naff episodes). Scrubs did a perfect ending, then ruined it by making that awful Interns season. The ending to Blackadder 4 was just beautiful.

Game of Thrones is the next one to end, I really hope it doesn’t disappoint. I have a horrible feeling it’s going to be an ‘all for nothing’ type thing.

HateSummer · 04/05/2018 11:47

Oh God, don’t remind me about the Lost finale. That was utter shit, but they did have big problems with the script writing due to the strikes. They suffered a lot because of that and it affected everything, so I’ll let them off with that. But Dexter producers had nothing standing in their way!

Breaking Bad was a very good ending.

Yes I hated the Lila character too!
I hated cardboard Jamie and what the hell was Masuka’s daughter storyline about? You don’t introduce a pointless new character in the final season!

Michael C Hall is in a new programme thats due to start soon called Safe which sounds quite good xx

Biggreygoose · 04/05/2018 12:04

It was shit. I have no idea what the lumberjack thing bought to the table.

The last two seasons were poor. However the second season I rate as some of the best TV ever made.

HateSummer · 04/05/2018 13:38

I’ve seen adverts for that new series. I don’t know how he’ll play that character as I’ve only ever seen him in sinister, dry roles with little emotion.

I didn’t understand why he becomes a lumberjack either. I didn’t understand why he throws Debra’s body in the water Confused. Or why Batista is fine with dexter stabbing Saxon when he wasn’t even employed anymore...just so many stupid things not adding up. Grr. Now I need something else to watch.

Spoiler alerts.

A lot of US series jump the shark but I agree that Dexter was particularly disappointing. I think it's because it hit real highs earlier on. As well as the problems mentioned above, he started kidnapping people in the middle of the day where people would have seen there would have been cctv, it felt like the writers couldn't be bothered any more.

Prison Break I gave up on a series or two before the end. I had stopped by then but I knew that the doctor would turn up alive. Lost I think I only managed two episodes, it seemed like they were using flashbacks so they didn't need to bother with a storyline.

PermanentlyHungry · 04/05/2018 14:37

I've only ever seen him in Dexter so it'll be good to see him in something else. We are currently enjoying Lethal Weapon. Not sure if it's your cuppa tea but would highly recommend. It's got a good mixture of action & comedy ... oh & the guy that plays Riggs is abit of a hottie 👍👍 xx

FrankWelker · 04/05/2018 14:49

Hated the ending too- I wish it had been a happy ending. A magazine article I read said that in one of the earlier seasons Dex accidentally killed an innocent man and after that things started unravelling for him. Apparently Deb had to die as she mentally couldn’t go on being complicit in his crimes.
Wish it had a good ending though! For me I liked season 5 best with Lumen.

Aridane · 04/05/2018 14:54

Remind me how it ends? Clearly it left a great impression on me Grin

BuggeringNora · 04/05/2018 16:37

@PermanentlyHungry - watch him in Six Feet Under if you can, now that was a truly great tv show. The finale is an absolute masterpiece. Agree about the final Breaking Bad too; just fantastic.

Lovejoyfull · 04/05/2018 16:51

Dexter was one of my favourite shows EVER... until season 5. I faithfully watched every episode but it became silly. The finale was just plain stupid. I felt they left it open to come back.

Unevenbeard · 04/05/2018 16:53

YANBU, the last book is the series is equally as disappointing

peachgreen · 04/05/2018 17:07

Six Feet Under has the best finale of all time. I'm rewatching with DH (his first time) and enjoying every minute. It's so well-written and knowing how satisfying the ending is makes it just a joy to watch.

I loved the Lost finale but I know I'm pretty much on my own there!

The Wire has a great finale too.

rugbychick1 · 04/05/2018 17:14

I was also disappointed in the ending. Apparently there are rumours of another season, so we'll have to wait and see.

Michael C Hall also played JFK in The Crown

ethelfleda · 04/05/2018 17:21

YANBU! I loved Dexter until the last couple of seasons. Shittest ending ever. What a load of crap.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 04/05/2018 17:25

I hated season 3 with that corrupt prosecutor, i liked that they killed off Debra though. If i remember rightly they were originally going to kill him off, and they did have talks a few years later of doing a new series, but it never happened. At least it is still open to come back from if they ever decided to.

5foot5 · 04/05/2018 17:35

The only good thing about the ending was that at least they didn't kill of Batista. He was such a lovely chap that I wanted him to have a happy ever after

RolyPolyLilBatFaceGirl · 04/05/2018 17:59

Season 1 and 2 were excellent, season 3 was ok

And then it just turned rubbish. Such a shame. I couldn't even finish it
