WTAF? The council are going to charge me £38 for a new one!

Someone stole my lid.......$70 for that!!

SusanDelfino · 01/05/2018 07:36

Did it disappear on bin collection day? Because mine fell in the back of the bin van. Apparently that happens a lot. You shouldn't have to pay for that.

PalePinkSwan · 01/05/2018 07:37

Happens pretty often, mostly when somebody’s bin has become disgusting and they can’t be bothered to clean it.

Next time put your house number on it.

LanguidLobster · 01/05/2018 07:37

Actually that's really out of order if it was stolen.

It's hardly like you'd be hiding it somewhere and felt covetous about wheelie bins and wanted to accrue as many as possible.

catinboots9 · 01/05/2018 07:40

Mine was stolen too and when I rang up the council they said they would 'put me on the waiting list' Grin

I couldn't believe it. It's a wheelie bin FFS not a Fendi handbag

Munchkin08 · 01/05/2018 07:47

I got a new one free and then my old one turned up too 😁

Paie · 01/05/2018 07:50

We had no recycling bin when we moved in, so purchased one from the council for 40 quid. Guess what magically appears 2 weeks later?
Now we have 2 Grin

Tamingoftheglue · 01/05/2018 07:52

When we moved into our house in January, the lady that sold it to us had taken her wheelie bin with her Confused must have had some sentimental value...

boymum9 · 01/05/2018 07:53

One of ours disappeared on collection day last week!! WTH!

LanguidLobster · 01/05/2018 07:54

There were no recycling boxes when I moved into my place so I ordered some, they didn't appear to have arrived so I was on the phone to the Council and hesitantly said 'there appear to be some on the opposite side of the road...'

So she told me to go and snatch them. We were both giggling a little bit by that point but I ran across and grabbed them and she said her lips were sealed!

Emma198 · 01/05/2018 07:55

You have to pay for bins?! That's shocking. We didn't have any when we moved in, bizarre, I filled out a form online and they got delivered when they next did their rounds.

Tamingoftheglue · 01/05/2018 07:57

I didn't have to pay for my new one either btw.

MaryBread · 01/05/2018 07:58

There are two green recycling boxes that have appeared on our street and nobody has claimed them for weeks now. You're welcome to come and take them away.

LIZS · 01/05/2018 08:04

The one at ds student house has gone awol. £52 to replace!

Vitalogy · 01/05/2018 08:11

That's annoying.
How long has it been missing and have you nonchalantly scouted your area/neighbours bins? Mine went missing once, the neighbour had it.

When you get your new one, personalise it to within an inch of it's life.

pigmcpigface · 01/05/2018 08:13

For pence on ebay you can get stickers with your address written on them to put on the bin. They look smart too!

BMW6 · 01/05/2018 08:13

Didn't you write your house number on it?

Juells · 01/05/2018 08:21

Happens pretty often, mostly when somebody’s bin has become disgusting and they can’t be bothered to clean it.

Are your bins not chipped?

LakieLady · 01/05/2018 08:23

Yesterday was bin day here. It was also very windy.

The new wheelie bins for recycling were blowing all over the place and loads ended up at our end of the road.

Could something similar have happened to yours, OP?

useyourimagination · 01/05/2018 08:24

Mine went missing on bin day a couple of years ago. I looked up and down the road to see if it had been put back in the wrong place. Council replaced it free of charge as they reckoned it had gone in the bin lorry by mistake. They told me I could put 2 bin bags out until my replacement arrived.

Yogagirl123 · 01/05/2018 08:24

We brought ours, as the council don’t supply them here, we were the envy of the neighbour hood! People asking us were we brought it from, now they have all brought them, copycats!

But the funny thing was when it was delivered, the delivery driver said, keep your eye on it. A lot of these go missing you know. Well, my anxiety levels hit the roof, as soon as the rubbish was collected DH was ready to bring it in, LOL😂

I hope you wheelie reappears.

FowlisWester · 01/05/2018 08:27

Ah I remember our first ever wheel bin. It arrived all shiny and new and dad put us in it and ran up and down the path with it. Happy days. Then some bugger stole it and we got a Gray one with a blue lid. Nostalgia.

hdh747 · 01/05/2018 08:31

i painted our house number on ours, muliple times, very large. Didn't stop someone round the corner, nicking it and leaving me their really skanky one, by the time I found mine that was skanky too. Angry

BlooBagoo · 01/05/2018 08:32

We put numbers on all of ours and they ended up vanishing, we just went and took whatever one we saw on the street afterwards, hasn't happened since but it annoys me that only one bin still has our numbers on it. Worst one was a neighbour who had taken our food recycling bin, theirs was beside their door, with ours right beside it with the number displayed to the street.

Forgottencoffee · 01/05/2018 08:32

When the council delivered our first lot of bins they told me to make a note of the 'bin number' that's written on the side and make sure our address is on each bin so if they go missing they are easily traced. Not sure how that actually works though because I can't imagine them sending someone out to look for them Hmm
