Ribena Wars (Lighthearted)

DH drives me nuts. He's 60+ and not unfit, but a fair bit overweight.
He plays golf regularly and he walks and cycles.

He takes his litre water bottle with him wherever he goes.
But it's always full of fucking Ribena!
I'm trying to tell him that a grown up adult does not need to have a sweet drink for hydration. Most grown ups just take water. I take water. Everybody I know takes water. Water is all you really need to hydrate yourself. Go jogging. Take water. Go cycling. Take water.
Do a marathon. Take water.

But he always has to, and insists on taking, fucking Ribena
I've told him of the sugar content. I've told him that it really pisses me off, I've told him that it's sugar that he doesn't need. I've told him that it makes it more difficult to wash his water bottle out, cause it has sticky Ribena in it. (You don't really have to wash water bottles if they've only had water in them)

Am I being unreasonable to be so pissed off that he could address his weight problem firstly by cutting out the sticky hydrating drinks?
When he could just take pure, clear, water?

I'm not controlling or manipulative, obviously, because he takes absolutely no notice of what I say.

But WIBU to keep pushing it?

To be honest he's only BU because Ribena is vile now they've faffed around with the recipe by reducing the sugar 😂

Veterinari · 29/04/2018 21:32

Stop buying it?

Oakmaiden · 29/04/2018 21:34

But he likes ribena.

Plus - you should wash your water bottle every day - even if it has only had water in.

getoutofthebath · 29/04/2018 21:35

50% of the sugar content has been cut now, so I'd let him gulp away

ReginaldMolehusband · 29/04/2018 21:36

Get in touch with Ribena sharpish! They'd love to have someone who likes the stuff since they reduced the sugar content.

CuntPuffin · 29/04/2018 21:38

What is wrong with an adult drinking Ribena ( does it have to be in. bold?). I don't like water.

His life, his choice. It'll take a bit more than cutting out Ribena for him to lose weight.

bobstersmum · 29/04/2018 21:39

Ribena is awful, vimto rules! By the way, our tap water here is vile. I can't drink it plain. But I can from everywhere else so maybe our water supply is not as good as it should be.

Tiredeypops · 29/04/2018 21:40

Sipping on sweet drinks throughout the day is absoloutely awful for his teeth - they’re just bathing in sugar for hours and all the lovely bacteria in his mouth are having a little party because the Ribena is back again

TroysMammy · 29/04/2018 21:42

bobstersmum did you know Vimto now does an orange, raspberry and passion fruit flavour?

I can only drink hot ribena, I can't drink it cold but I can drink cold Vimto Confused

tinyme77 · 29/04/2018 21:45

I think that you should be pleased that this is your biggest worry. You know YABU. Do you really think that cutting this out would make any difference?

elefunk · 29/04/2018 21:46

Mine takes Diet Coke to bed. I've lost the will.

PatisserieDeBayeux · 29/04/2018 21:48

Stop buying it?

I don't buy it. He does.
I'm not in charge of the shopping.
Neither is he.
We each buy what we want or need.
We don't eat the same things at the same time because of shifts.
I buy stuff for the children and cook it at the appropriate time.
I don't buy Ribena. He does.

I hate water. Tap water tastes weird. Let him drink what he wants!!🍷

PatisserieDeBayeux · 29/04/2018 21:50

Do you really think that cutting this out would make any difference?

Of course it would. I'd stop nagging him for starters.

He'll be toothless at 50. Mark my words.

juneybean · 29/04/2018 21:54

I always have dilutey in my water.

GrimSqueaker · 29/04/2018 21:56

Does the "fucking Ribena" version of Ribena still have the sugar in? Cos if it does count us all in for Fucking Ribena (TM) all around.

Angie169 · 29/04/2018 22:04

I agree with bobstersmum vimto is better but i prefer Roes's lime cordial ( other brands are horrible )

PatisserieDeBayeux · 29/04/2018 22:05

Trust me, it's probably my very smallest worry. Not even a worry.
Just an irritation. Hence the (Lighthearted) part of the title.

I have much bigger and more worrying worries, as does everyone here, I'd guess.

PatisserieDeBayeux · 29/04/2018 22:07

For fecking cripes sake, keep that under your hat.
Don't want DH to see this.

Snowysky20009 · 29/04/2018 22:10

I can only drink bottle water, tap water is vile. I either have squash of some sort or go thirsty if no bottled
Water is in the house 🤷🏻‍♀️. You are being unreasonable.

PatisserieDeBayeux · 29/04/2018 23:23

Feck this for a lark then. I wanted everybody to agree with me.
I just drink water out of the tap when I'm thirsty.

TuTru · 29/04/2018 23:30

I love ribena. I have to limit myself to one per day. Not every day... but a lot of days.
I know it has too much sugar in it, but I love it. And it does give me a lot of vitamin C.
I drink water aswell. Just beena would be too much for my bladder to deal with.
Up to him what he drinks though, let him wash his own bottle an’all

Pretenditsaplan · 30/04/2018 05:13

Honestly drinking ribena and washing out your bottle each time is much more healthier then never washing the bottle you use for just water. Its worse then the germs found on a toilet seat. Do you lick your toilet seat? You might as well if your not washing out your water bottle. Bleargh thats one way of making me feel sick to my stomach. Basic research shows your habits to be worse then his health wise. He might have empty calories but your playing russian roulette for much higher stakes.

PatisserieDeBayeux · 30/04/2018 06:34

You might as well if your not washing out your water bottle

I do wash out the water bottles. With a bottle brush and hot water and washing up liquid and everything. Ribena seems to stain it red and it takes ages to get off.
