Troll threads

AIBU to think some troll threads shouldn't be deleted? Not the ones that are really offensive, or trying to get money or anything like that. But I've seen two today where the troll and moreso the replies have been absolutely hilarious (tampon gobbler anyone?).

Sometimes I wish they'd stand. I bet I'm missing out on loads that get deleted in a timely fashion Grin

Yes that was a good one. I snorted with laughter Grin

Mia184 · 25/04/2018 20:29

I would also like some of the troll threads to stay and maybe get moved to a special area because some of the advice given to a troll is absolutely fantastic.

Knittedfairies · 25/04/2018 20:30

Maybe MNHQ could put them in a ‘read only’ section.... at least until I had chance to have a look.

Agree! By putting them in their own section they're acknowledging that they're trolls, but we don't lose the comedy gold.

Could this actually be workable do we think?

OP posts:
TheDinosaurRoars · 25/04/2018 20:37

I suppose by keeping them it just encourages more trolls and not all of them are entertaining or funny.

UserInfinityplus1 · 25/04/2018 20:38

It really annoys me when inoffensive troll treads get deleted as I always miss them and some of them are bloody hilarious

Knittedfairies · 25/04/2018 20:39

I suppose it might encourage trolls to try to make the grade, but the unfunny/not entertaining threads could just be deleted.

MadMags · 25/04/2018 20:40

I suppose it’s not worth the floodgates it could open.

I also remember years ago when a regular poster posted a joke thread under another name and HQ let it stand.

There was MURDER! People did not take it well.

NChangeyMcChange · 25/04/2018 20:44

Have read that, think it's in classics. It's a shame isn't it. I live for the batshitness of these people Grin

OP posts:
CocoPuffsInGodMode · 25/04/2018 20:47

I agree and if you look in Classics quite a few of those are very obvious troll threads but they're damn funny.. MN weren't always so black and white about this.

I don't really agree that it would just encourage trolls as they don't actually need encouraging. MN is a popular site, often mentioned in newspapers etc, there's nothing stopping anyone from trolling as long as they don't go so far they get hit with the ban hammer!

Anyway, I suspect many threads are completely made up or if not they're certainly exaggerated for effect. Why not let us enjoy the entertaining ones? Every whiny assed AIBU about [insert minor irritation] is available for ever Hmm.

MadMags · 25/04/2018 20:49

It was hilarious! And completely harmless.

But people just lost their reason about it!

NChangeyMcChange · 25/04/2018 21:23

Well surely if we get lots of support and not too many naysayers spoilsports, MNHQ might consider? The best troll threads are usually in the early morning, and I go to bed far too early, and miss out on them. Who thinks we should have a specific 'troll' section?

OP posts:
HabituallyOptimistic · 25/04/2018 21:28

Which is the troll thread in Classics?

coconuttella · 25/04/2018 21:30

I’ll probably get my account deleted for this, but I’ve started troll threads and got into the national online press. It’s a skill making them believable enough but not too batshit crazy, whilst knowing you’ll touch a nerve whilst not being offensive Smile.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 25/04/2018 21:30

Might as well re-name the whole site. Nobody need be a 'spoilsport' then (as you call them, OP) and nobody needs to get banned either. Sites change. This one has evolved into something else. I've lost my sense of humour I think as I rarely find a thread funny.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 25/04/2018 21:31

How proud you must be, coconuttella

MadMags · 25/04/2018 21:32

@coconutella the funny troll threads don’t actually try to touch a nerve. Hmm

TomPinch · 25/04/2018 21:34

Also want to know which Classics thread was started by a troll.

I remember a great thread started by someone who said she wanted to lick her manager's chest. She then gave periodic updates on how her attempted seduction of him was going.

Alas, it was all bollocks I suppose because the thread got zapped.

coconuttella · 25/04/2018 21:34

I am very proud Smile

I'd like some of the ghastly disablism and racism to go into a preserved Hall of Shame. It's useful to see that sometimes. And yes, the tampon gobbler was special.

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 25/04/2018 21:37

Annoying that funny made-up threads are deleted while the awful ones (e.g. those salivating for MNers to share racist anecdotes) are left.

coconuttella · 25/04/2018 21:38

coconutella the funny troll threads don’t actually try to touch a nerve.

Of course they do... they are made to spark a lively response, more of incredulity than outrage.

RLOU88 · 25/04/2018 21:39

Haha tampon gobbler and CLUNGE kept me laughing all night last night. Want to re-read

GinIsIn · 25/04/2018 21:41

And there’s your answer: let them stand and twats like coconutella get their jollies.

Not to mention for every funny thread there’s 10 perverts trying to gather wank fodder, someone trying to scam money, and the manipulative fuckers who post about things like their kids dying because they get off on the attention from all the sympathy.
