To ask what to do with my sausages?

Okay, this isn't really an AIBU here but I need quick responses.

I'm standing in the kitchen with a pack of very naice M&S Venison sausages that need to be used today. Turns out I don't have any potatoes (bangers and mash) nor do I have mushrooms (sausage stroganoff). For that matter, I now only have half a bottle of white wine so dry recipes please.

What can I do with them? I have all the usual grains & pasta, stock, canned tomatoes and most types of canned beans. I also have a very well stocked dried herb and spice collection (bar rosemary apparently). I am however severely lacking on veg - I have some onions and garlic and a red pepper but I'm otherwise overdue a shop. I do have sweet potatoes though.

Please help me cook! My tummy is rumbling and without help I'm going to be thoroughly drunk unfulfilled.

Cook them on their own and eat with ketchup. Delish!

TeresasGreen · 25/04/2018 18:57

Take them out if their skins squish and fry them, tip in a tin of tomatoes. Voila, fab pasta sauce.

EastMidsMummy · 25/04/2018 18:58
  1. Buy some veg.

  2. Sausage sandwich.

Smallhorse · 25/04/2018 18:58

Brown sausages. Set aside
Sweat a chopped onion in the same pan . Add a chopped peeled apple. Sprinkle 2 tsp flour , mix well. Put sausages back in pan. Proud over a bottle or can of cider and a tsp mixed herbs. Simmer for as long as you like but at least half an hour. Serve with bread or rice

firstworldproblems2018 · 25/04/2018 18:59

Cook the sausages, meanwhile fry the onion and red pepper and some garlic if you have it. Add some herbs and tinned tomatoes. Reduce to a sauce, cook some pasta, chop up cooked sausages and mix into sauce, and there’s sausage pasta with tomato sauce.

Tfoot75 · 25/04/2018 18:59

If you had eggs, parsley and Parmesan I’d do Jamie Oliver’s 5 ingredient sausage carbonara as it’s asbolutely delicious

HicDraconis · 25/04/2018 18:59

Chop them up and fry them with onions, garlic, peppers and oregano (or some chilli if you like a bit of heat). Add a tin of tomatoes and simmer for 20-30 mins. Serve over pasta, or on a jacket potato, or in a bowl by itself.

EastMidsMummy · 25/04/2018 18:59
  1. Cook them tomorrow when you’ve bought more stuff. They won’t magically turn evil overnight.
YoucancallmeVal · 25/04/2018 19:00

Nigel Slater does a fab sausage and lentil dish with lentils.

YoucancallmeVal · 25/04/2018 19:01

Obviously!! Meant salami but can be omitted

YayImALlamaAgain · 25/04/2018 19:01

I was considering eating with ketchup but I don't think that's going to soak up the second half of the wine bottle by itself.

I'm feeling inspired by removing them from the skin - some kind of meatball -esque thing.

Sausage sarnie is a possibility, however I just don't think the remaining slightly stale bread will live up to the venison sausage hype.

@Smallhorse - That sounds delicious! I don't have apples or cider at the moment but I actually think that might pop up on the next shopping list.

I think pasta is the way then for tonight! What's the best herbs to pair with venison (so I can pretend to DP that I clearly planned this)?

Lentils?
Brown them, and put them in a pan with wine and some water and a stock cube, not too much liquid as it becomes a sauce.

Chop and onion and soften in butter, add water and lentils and cook.

Serve sausages on top of lentils with some veg if you want.

Can also add tomatoes, peppers etc. to the sausage pan.

JennyHolzersGhost · 25/04/2018 19:06

Sausage and tomato pasta - ?!?!!! Seems fairly obvious to me.

YayImALlamaAgain · 25/04/2018 19:07

I do actually have red wine too, @AnUtterIdiot so that could work - but my rational side is telling me not to mix red and white on a Wednesday night. Smile

Toad in the hole!

NapQueen · 25/04/2018 19:09

Id just fry them off, and dip in either hp or wholegrain mustard. Thats it. Savour them.

Thundercatshoooo · 25/04/2018 19:13

We've just had a similar dilemma, we went to make sausage and mash and just realised we have no potatoes shock horror! We are having sausage (and veg) tomato pasta bake with grated cheese 👍.

Mookie81 · 25/04/2018 19:14

Honey and mustard

IWouldLikeToKnow · 25/04/2018 19:18

The hairy bikers have a lovely sausage and bean casserole that is worth a google. Also, if you have lentils look up Donal Skehan's Toulouse sausage and lentil recipe. It's a winner here.
