Cleaner always on phone when ironing

Am I being silly? She hasn’t burnt anything but she’s chatting away the entire time with the phone balanced on her neck while ironing. Much slower of course!

I don’t really think it’s a big deal. Are the clothes nice after? And how do you know it’s slower then when she’s not if she’s always doing it?

Aroundtheworldandback · 24/04/2018 19:00

The iron hardly movesGrin she’s here 8 hours but most of the time either on her phone or texting- she’s very slow anyway, just rather she did another room instead.

If you're paying her according to the time she's at your house it's not on. She's doing it openly so she doesn't think she's doing anything wrong, she isn't very professional and probably won't take well to be being pulled up on it. How much do you need her services and how much do you value her good will?

Nanny0gg · 24/04/2018 20:05

She isn't being paid to chat on her phone. She keeps that to her break and when she leaves for home.

Aroundtheworldandback · 24/04/2018 21:03

Paid by the hour but she’s a good cleaner. Had her two years and as good as when she started which is unusual. She doesn’t really have a break as such(her choice), I make her a quick lunch, so perhaps I’m being unfair. Thanks all for opinions

If she’s bored and wants chat while ironing why dosnt she put it in loud speaker? It would annoy me if it’s making her slower.

flubdub · 24/04/2018 21:05

I wouldn't care, if it was on speaker phone.
But if she's holding it between her
head/shoulders knees and toes, then surely she can't move working effectively.

Pikmin · 24/04/2018 21:18

Buy her a cheap hands free headphone cable thingy as a gift and say you are worried she will hurt her neck?

Aroundtheworldandback · 24/04/2018 21:18

Dh told me to suck it up as the last two stole, she’s honest and does a good job. Guess I’ve answered my own question

Ironing is the most boring chore on the planet. Seriously either let it go or take that job from her and allocate something else.

Wallabyone · 24/04/2018 21:23

8 hours? That's a long time even in a large house. Would it make more sense to have two for half the time? And yes, the phone thing would irritate me too-particularly if it meant she would get out sooner had she not been on it!

Fruitcorner123 · 24/04/2018 21:25

You pay her by the hour!! Shock
Then YADNBU!

You need to renegotiate. Ironing should be X items = Y pounds.

charlestonchaplin · 24/04/2018 21:30

If you don't want to lose her do as Pikmin suggests. That should improve her speed and reduce the risk of accidents.

Audreyhelp · 24/04/2018 21:30

I can iron and be on the phone why does it make you any slower it doesn’t me.

Odoreida · 24/04/2018 21:35

I can do a lot with my phone in between my face and my shoulder including playing the piano and riding a bike. It doesn't slow me down at all - I think we're all built a bit differently. However ironing is utterly pointless and you should just get her to do more cleaning if she's good at it.

StormcloakNord · 24/04/2018 21:38

You either own a castle/mansion or have a truly bogging house before you need a cleaner to be there 8 hours a day. Even one 8 hour shift once a week is a ludicrous amount of time.

UpSideDownBrain · 24/04/2018 21:38

I've seen my cleaner on the phone a few times with a mop in her hand, chatting whilst she pushes the mop to and fro over the same spot. But she's punctual, honest and it's not every week. So I live with it.

CuntPuffin · 24/04/2018 21:38

Get her a Bluetooth headset. She can chat away, have both hands free to iron, and not end up with a crook in her neck.

kaytee87 · 24/04/2018 21:40

Really unprofessional to chat on the phone whilst at work. This would bother me too.

2cats2many · 24/04/2018 21:41

Blimey! What does she do in 8 hours?

Believeitornot · 24/04/2018 21:41

8 hours to clean?!?!?
No wonder she has time to chat

WhiteBobbles · 24/04/2018 21:42

8 hours?! That's ridiculous.

YANBU chatting away on the phone as ironing on a job is very unprofessional. It's fine at home but if I was being paid to do a job I wouldn't be doing it.

WhiteBobbles · 24/04/2018 21:43

@CuntPuffin get her a Bluetooth headset?! Are you for real?

Mrsmadevans · 24/04/2018 21:44

It is a shit job ironing let her phone ffs OP, your poor cleaner.

liz70 · 24/04/2018 21:48

8 hours a day? That's not a cleaner; it's a housekeeper.
