Carrie I don't think most of us want to customise AIBU away, we want it PURGED from the MN repertoire before it can taint any more young minds with its seductive wiles

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:17

Are we not capable of avoiding those topics, which annoy us?

Rhubarb · 13/05/2007 21:18

Good point Lily.

GibbonInARibbon · 13/05/2007 21:18

AIBU is the web and I am the fly

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:19

It has been suggested that perhaps the brutal and kneejerk reactions which AIBU encourages are spilling out into other areas of MN, to its detriment

I am kind of starting to agree

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:19

Seems to me like is someone does not like a topic then avoid it, not start another thread taking the piss. That smacks of bullying if you ask me, and perhaps I will as MN towers to stop that ?? No I would never do that.

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:20

and no I don't think most of us ARE capable, I think that much is pretty clear

Rhubarb · 13/05/2007 21:21

She has a very good point. There have been lots of threads started with the sole purpose of attacking another thread or a Mumsnetter.

Surely it is an abuse of the principles of Mumsnet and perhaps MNHQ should give culprits a warning?

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:21

Well lily if you think someone is going against the MN posting rules then you are perfectly at liberty to report their post. MN Towers will remove personal attacks.

However the person has apologised to you, and I thought you had accepted their apology.

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:23

Thanks for that, but I would never run off and complain, but do feel like there are some posters who feel like they rule the roost, and while I appreciate their may be a heirachy of some kind, I do not take kindly to blatent piss taking, and would put me off posting another thread.

Rhubarb · 13/05/2007 21:23

She is talking generally F&Z. And she still has a good point. It can be quite upsetting I'm sure to see a thread started to take the piss out of your thread. What might be a joke for one person is someone else's worry.

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:24

Good point Franny, appreciate apologies have been made, and hence why I would NEVER report any one, but I can still be pissed off.

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:25

There is a lot of piss taking around here and usually it is just in good humour, but if you feel someone has over stepped the mark then either address it with them, or report to MN Towers (see red exclamation mark to right of every post)

LittleMouse did apologise, but if you still feel aggrieved then I would tell her so directly or report the posts you don't like.

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:25

The main issue I have as stated earlier, is seriously I would now be very hesitant in starting another thread for fear of reprisals.

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:26

Sorry cross posts with all

I didn't think in this case it was a general point as the incident had just happened. However agree that a joke can seem very unfunny if it is about something that is worrying you.

stressteddy · 13/05/2007 21:26

lilly - if there's a hierarchy, then there shouldn't be

It does feel like that though sometimes

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:27

As I have said, the thread I started was emotive for me, so hence why I am pissed off, but I do not hold a grudge, so have therefore not retorted back to littlemouse, and have not complained, and never would, god would I not get lynched?

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:27

Lilymolly please start threads on anything you like. There will be some people who agree with you and some people who don't agree with you.

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2007 21:28

but it's been explained, lilymolly, that it wasn't really about y our thread. it's the TOPIC. have a look, there are already threads from today talking about ditching it.
but the AIBU thing does mean that you actually asked the question 'am i being unreasonable in wanting to call dd's vagina a vagina?' which is so far from unreasonable as to be laughable. whereas if aibu didn't exist you'd have written (in chat, perhaps) 'dh says that i'm being silly/gross.unreasonable (delete as applicable) in wanting to call dd's vagina a vagina' which is, i think at least, a bit different.

GibbonInARibbon · 13/05/2007 21:28

lily, as Franny said 'tis all meant in good spirits. Not personal but I can understand it may not come across that way...just tell everyone to poke it

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:29

I think littlemouse's humour is best appreciated when it is not about you personally

funny, that

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:29

Forget it everyone, just a wee bit sensitive. poke off everyone

lilymolly · 13/05/2007 21:30

poke it even

Rhubarb · 13/05/2007 21:30

But Aitch, it's hard to explain to those who haven't been in on the general joke that it's nothing personal against them. She started a topic about something that worried her and saw a piss-taking thread mentioning her thread. tbh I'd have been upset too.

I think you do have to realise that not everyone is in on the joke and don't understand that the general topic of AIBU gets your goat.

FrannyandZooey · 13/05/2007 21:30

yes and you now have about 6 threads on the go ALL TALKING ABOUT YOU

you should be thanking us not complaining
