To wonder if Labour will apologise for Windrush

It seems like the Conservatives are doing all they can and have apologised for Windrush.

Now we know that it was a Labour government who decided to destroy the landing cards of those Commonwealth citizens, will JC apologise (as he said May should) or will he shut up and move on to more misguided posturing.

AIBU in thinking that populist grandstanding is not in the best interests of our country?

As the current trend of politics for the two main parties, when challenged on just about anything, is to deflect by starting with “But Labour.../But Conservative...” I’d say probably not.

But I also don’t like leaders having to apologise for things they weren’t involved in. Did Jeremy have have anything to do with this? Those in prominent power in the Labour Party at the time who called for this should be the ones to apologise.

Jacqui Smith, I guess.

She never had much chance of still being around after she tried to blame the expenses fraud on her being a unfairly investigated because she was a woman.

I agree that there's often a lot of "but Labour ... / but Conservative ..." but that's because of Labours populist policies. They tend to be simply against others as opposed to for anything of substance and will take every opportunity to harm as opposed to work together.

JC hates Europe but pretends the Tories are to blame for Brexit.

JC did a lot of virtue signalling about that dead child abuser before having any idea of the facts.

JC expected the current cabinet to apologise without knowing the full facts.

If labour had anything to do with the destruction then of course they should apologise. I don't think this attempt at deflection is working, though.

Are you having a laugh? It’s this government that’s created a “hostile environment” and the consequence is that they’re deporting British citizens. They can flail around for any old excuse but blaming a previous government for destroying paperwork doesn’t excuse them from the decisions they’ve made now. Fundamentally, they’re institutionally racist.

It’s fact- it’s not about how people think politically! Involving labour in this is pure deflection.
Amber Rudd should resign over this and so should Theresa May but they won’t.

I don't think it is as clear cut as you put OP.

2 things stand out the most in this link.

1.They had been stored in a basement for decades but Downing Street says the UK Border Agency approved a business case in June 2009 to dispose of paper records, including the cards

The decision to destroy the cards themselves was taken in October 2010, after the coalition came to power. Mrs May was not involved in the decision, which was taken at official level, said No 10

2.Changes to migration rules introduced when Mrs May was home secretary mean those who lack documents are now being told they need evidence to continue working, access key services or even remain in the UK

so they were officially destroyed in 2010.
then the change in law about immigrants without evidence. (that they just destroyed)

Isn’t it also true that Jeremy Corbyn, amongst other MPs now prominent in the shadow cabinet, were part of the few MPs who voted against the Immigration Act 2014, which is what caused the whole issue? (Hmm, which government was in power?)

OP I'd encourage you to either listen to the whole debate or read the article posted above. When the PM said in parliament yesterday that it wasn't her decision bit the labour govt in 2009 she was lying as outlined by one of her own MPs later.

Labour probably won't apologise as it happened while Theresa May was home minister. It happened on the Tories' watch with the current prime minister directly in charge. And she tries to blame Labour. Although it does appear that she maybe didn't know what was going on at the time.

Just how incompetent is she and the Tories? Or do they simply lie as readily as breathe? Amoral, just crap or a mix of both?

She said herself that “other people” don’t deserve to be here. The language is appalling.

I haven't said anything misleading. "Decided to" could be changed to "initiated" but I don't think you were really misled as you didn't read my post clearly enough to even address the AIBU which was:
