Botox- will it be obvious I've had it done?

OpenFires · 16/04/2018 10:43

I have a Botox appointment and don't want to tell anyone I'm having it done- I'm meant to be meeting friends immediately after the appointment, will I have any bruising or obvious signs I've just had it done?

I hope you don't mind me following this post as I have the same question!

araiwa · 16/04/2018 10:48

If you cant tell youve had it done, it seems pointless doing it

Merryoldgoat · 16/04/2018 11:00

I think it depends on how much and how good the practitioner.

I saw someone (friend of friend) recently that I’ve not seen for ages. I didn’t recognise her - she has so much Botox she looked totally different - devoid of character or expression.

Personally I’d not have it done because I don’t mind looking my age but I can understand why other people might like it.

beepbeeprichie · 16/04/2018 11:02

Full results take a while to show but you might have small bruises or raised bumps like insect bites at the injection sites straight after.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 16/04/2018 11:02

@araiwa Not necessarily. You may be able to tell yourself while others can't, which is fine. It doesn't need to be extreme.

OP I had it done and I couldn't tell enough. Guess my muscles are too strong!

Go to a reputable clinic, start of with a small dose and get the usually included top-up after the full effects have set in within 2 weeks.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 16/04/2018 11:02

start off*

badtime · 16/04/2018 11:02

I think the OP is just asking if there are any signs in the immediate aftermath - bruising or needle marks or anything.

digestOfDigest · 16/04/2018 11:03

Yes, but that isn't what the OP asked.

I didn't get any bruising or signs and the botox doesn't work immediately.

I've had it done about 7 times over 11 years around my eyes and forehead and it didn't look unnatural.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 16/04/2018 11:03

Oh sorry misread the question.

I had redness at the injection sites for an hour or so. It is possible to get bruising.

bobstersmum · 16/04/2018 11:05

Used to work with a lady who had it done regularly, once she came back from having it done and she had one eyebrow raised and the other normal, looked very odd until it wore off and was like that a while.

Deshasafraisy · 16/04/2018 11:08

Yes, you can tell straight after the appointment.
Injecting your face could also have some horrific consequences in the long term

OpenFires · 16/04/2018 11:09

@bobstersmum that's what I'm afraid of, or was wondering about excessive bruising or redness. If it's just a bit and I can cover it with make up that's ok- I don't want to tell DH I've had it done I'm just going to tell him I'm having a facial.

frasier · 16/04/2018 11:10

I bruise badly and you can always tell immediately afterwards with me. I get little raised red lumps at first and then bruises later. Takes about 4 days to settle down.

I can tell (see people on the tube!) when people have had it done but if I didn't know what I was looking at because I bruise the same, I would just think they had an angry complexion.

If it's just a little in your forehead and you have a fringe, it won't show. But it really depends on how easily you bruise and how heavy handed the person handling the needle is.

(As for people know you've had it done resultswise, a relative was convinced I was having botox and would find excuses to make me open my mouth or yawn or do facial excercises in an attempt to "catch me out". I would have told her if she had asked like a normal person lol! Thing is, I only ever had it in my forehead and a little around the eyes, so it never affected the bottom half of my face!)

OpenFires · 16/04/2018 11:10

@Deshasafraisy so what does it look like straight after the appointment, how can you tell?

OP posts:
QueenofSerene · 16/04/2018 11:11

I had Botox done on my forehead and around my eyes on my 28th birthday and followed up with a party and no one knew, no bruising or swelling or redness, but I suppose you need to make sure you go to a reputable practitioner.

cheeseslovesme · 16/04/2018 11:11

I have had it done twice.
I went in my lunch break. No one noticed at all at work, just was a little red and slightly raised where the injection was x

OpenFires · 16/04/2018 11:11

@frasier do you think you could cover the bumps and bruises with make up?

Bluntness100 · 16/04/2018 11:12

That can't possibly be true, because it takes a few days for it to take effect. Why are you making stuff up to scare her?

Op, you may have some pin prick needle marks immediately after. You also won't be able to apply make up for about four hours. You can probably dust a little powder over, but at most people might think you have couple of little spots appearing on your forehead. Don't worry.

Clearly some folks are posting with no actual clue what they are talking about.

Ollivander84 · 16/04/2018 11:13

I bruise badly but not a mark on me after Botox

Hillingdon · 16/04/2018 11:18

You cannot tell when it is well done. You just look rested. I have had people who have told tell me that I don't need it. That is because its in there you silly billies!

frasier · 16/04/2018 11:21

OpenFires Probably. They should cover it up at the place you get it done. They have good cover up stuff at the place I go but it's not really worth it for me. It really does depend on how easily you bruise and as I say I'm REALLY bad. If I get my eyebrows waxed I have bright red patches!

Onthewrongsideof30 · 16/04/2018 11:23

You will have a few red marks ..... tell them you've had acupuncture !!! Takes 2 weeks to take effect. You can't lie down for a few hours after ..... be warned the head ache after is a killer ! Lasts 2 weeks, take regular Panadol. Enjoy OP I love it and DH has no idea, find a referral- that's what I did !

frasier · 16/04/2018 11:23

Oh and they'll ice it and that helps. Ask to stay a little longer with an icepack in the waiting room.

If this is in the daytime and you're not seeing DH until evening, it will have gone down a lot and makeup will surely cover that.

frasier · 16/04/2018 11:25

I get "botox headache" but not everyone does apparently. Mine is on and off for a day or two that's all. And it takes effect with me in a few days and lasts longer than the average.

Everyone must be different!

But yes enjoy OP, it's worth it!

JellyBeanPaws · 16/04/2018 11:30

Never had Botox but have fillers. I’d say I usually have red needle marks and some swelling right after the procedure is done. And extra swelling especially the morning after, but usually calms down after a day or two.
