Botox- will it be obvious I've had it done?

I have a Botox appointment and don't want to tell anyone I'm having it done- I'm meant to be meeting friends immediately after the appointment, will I have any bruising or obvious signs I've just had it done?

I get small bumps and a bit of redness at the injection sites on my forehead, which goes after a couple of hours. Never got any marks near my eyes or between my eyebrows, possibly because those areas are more "fleshy" than my forehead.

You shouldn't put concealer or foundation on immediately after the treatment as you're not meant to rub the skin - as PP said, a bit of face powder would be the most you could put on to cover up any redness.

I've only bruised once with botox, and it didn't show until a couple of days after the treatment.

I've always told DH exactly the same as you OP - "been for a facial". He's never realised I've actually had a needle stuck in my face!

I had someone say to be that they wanted a treatment that wasn't expensive, didn't hurt, with no side effects and with NO risk. She did take the name of my Doctor though!

I think its good that you get a few marks, have a headache, etc sometimes. It makes us think more carefully about it. I don't believe the PP who says when her colleague came back you can see she had it done because of the raised eyebrow. Its impossible. It doesn't work that fast!!

No one will be able to tell Op. just cover t with a little concealer if you get a red mark.

I do sneaky botox and my DH or friends have no idea Wink

I've had Botox for years and no one knows unless I tell them
My practitioner is fabulous

You can't wear any make up for an hour after
I only have minimal redness afterwards and look fine within half an hour
Stay upright for 4 hours, no bending forward

I haven't made anything up! I have re read my comment and I didn't make clear that the lady had it done( if I remember correctly) the week before but no longer than that, and that's what happened.
She did as I say have it done often, I don't know if this is something that regularly happens with botox but it definitely happened with her. It did go back to normal but it took a few weeks!
Read my other comments im not one for winding people up.

Have never had a post-Botox headache.

You get little scary bee-sting type lumps straight afterwards but they disappear really quickly.

Have had the little pinpricks before and the odd bruise (tiny) occasionally, but nothing too obvious. But as a pp said leave it a few hours before any make-up. And no lying down or strenuous exercise.

I think unless you've had it yourself you just wouldn't notice at all.

But then I don't get this big secrecy thing. Obviously in the minority. Do you think your DHs and friends will judge you? I don't scream it from the rooftops but have told DP and good friends. One of whom came with me last time.

Bluntness100 · 16/04/2018 12:55

Bobsters mum, no it wasn't clear, because uou specifically stated she came back from having it done with a raised eye brow in response to a woman asking if you could tell immediately after as she was meeting friends.

Then when we said it was impossible because it took time to work, you come back and say oh I meant a week later.

Yes, you can get a raised eyebrow, but it would need to be a poor practioner who injected in a very specific area.

I don't have any bruising just a little bit of redness. I generally takes 1 or 2 weeks to see the full benefit but I can see a subtle difference the next day. I have top ups every 12 weeks.

Nobody knows that I have had it done unless I tell them, most people just comment that I look well.

I spent a lot of time researching practitioners and went with a great consultant plastic surgeon who specialises in facial reconstruction but also does a lot of cosmetic surgery.

My doctor is brilliant and very strict. He will not give you the frozen surprised look as he personally dose not think it enhances features. I have a big long list of rules to follow such as no make up for the appointment and no make up for 12 hours after, no exercise or physical exertion for 24 hours, no lying down for 6 hours. I have to frown and raise eyebrows 3 times every 15 mins for 2 hours after a treatment.

Before my top up I have to have a quick consultation recap in his office. His treatment room is kept very cool to help avoid flushing to the face. He prefers me to avoid getting Botox if I am on my period due to me being quite "vascular" as I tend to bleed a little from the injections. He always prepares the Botox in front of me right before treatment.

During treatment my doctor wears surgical magnifying glasses and makes me frown and raise my eyebrows then marks areas with surgical pencil, he then uses medical calipers to make measurements that ensures the Botox is administered evenly across my forehead.

I meant came back to work, our pattern was 3 full days on then 4 off. I wasn't clear to anyone but myself in my head!

ISaidIWasTired · 16/04/2018 14:54

No you can't tell at all unless you bruise easily but I've never had bruises and the pin pricks don't bleed or scab either. A tiny amount of make up should suffice if you do bruise.

The point in having it done is that paralysing muscles improves appearance of existing wrinkles and prevents future ones. You should notice a nice difference in a few days or so and gradual improvements in the coming months :)
