I have an 11 year old ds and am wondering when it is likely to start and what the first signs are likely to be?

OP posts:
PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox · 15/04/2018 17:58

Its different for everyone.

DD was 12 when her boobs started growing but 13 before her periods started. Her height shot up too. She's now 14 and she's started getting a few spots and is taller than me Envy

DS1 was about 13 and his voice changed first. Then he shot up and got all hairy Grin

DS2 is 15 and hasn't started yet Sad

What NewYearNewMe18 said.

You could always speak to your GP/school nurse OP

grumpy4squash · 15/04/2018 18:20

My DS1 grew lots at 12 and voice broke at 13. DS2 is an earlier developer - already 5 foot 8 at (just) 12 and voice started changing at 11 while still in primary!
DD started periods at 12.5, fairly average I think.

TipTopTat · 15/04/2018 18:24

Perve thread, again?

RedSkyAtNight · 15/04/2018 18:25

What do you consider the start of puberty?

jjmc0616 · 15/04/2018 18:28

Yes you are BU.

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2018 18:28

There's such a wide range of normal it's pretty pointless asking people on here for their experiences.

BarbarianMum · 15/04/2018 18:33

What do you think we can tell you thag googling "starting puberty boys" won't?

tillytoodles1 · 15/04/2018 18:38

DD started her periods at 12, and by the time she was 13 she was 5'8". Son was just turned 16, grew hair everywhere and shot up to 6'2 by the time he was 17.

FlibbertyGiblets · 15/04/2018 18:40

I’ve reported this thread. Go and google!

HebeMumsnet · 15/04/2018 19:15

Evening folks.

Thanks for your reports. We've had a good look behind the scenes and this OP has been here for an awful lot of years and everything she says here adds up with what she's posted previously as far as we can see. We know we've had a few strange types round here recently but we think it would be very unusual for someone to wait all those years before posting something like this just for kicks.

Hope that puts your minds at rest but obviously, on any topic, please don't share anything you don't feel entirely comfortable with.

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 15/04/2018 19:17

My DD is 11 in August. She has definitely started puberty, she has a little pubic hair, greasy hair, a few spots and has developed a waist and hips.

She's wearing a bra too, and can be very tearful and emotional about absolutely nothing! 😉

dementedpixie · 15/04/2018 19:21

Dd started periods age 11. Ds is 11 (12 in Oct) and no real signs yet

JustDanceAddict · 15/04/2018 19:27

My DS is just 14 and is in the throes of it now:
Massive growth spurt over last year - 4-5 inches
Stinks to fuck(!) if he doesn’t put deodorant on
Proper hair ‘down below’ (he was ill the other week and I had to help him in loo so got an eyeful!!)
Spots - this is quite recent - last few weeks
Voice has been breaking since about 12.5 - it’s deep now
General grumpy and moody teen behaviour!!
Girls start and finish earlier.
