Hotel Bills

Husband has been very odd about his phone and security of it over the last few years to the point that he wrestled it out of my hands once. He has been very grumpy to us all. He used to leave it out, years ago now it has fingerprint all sorts galore functions. I've been too busy with the children and work to deal with it all. I was in our office, sorting out paperwork and came across a hotel bill for when he was last working away. Everything was fine apart from the number of guests - which said 2. He was staying alone. I am sure this is a genuine mistake by the hotel, is there any way I could find out? I have invoice number etc? Don't want to be paranoid. But he may have to go away for the next few weeks again and suddenly he was all nice when he was telling me. Am I overreacting?

I've had it say two guests on my work hotel invoices before, I definitely stayed alone though! I was slightly worried the first time that work might query it and not pay, but when I called they said it's quite common.

Dvg · 13/04/2018 09:59

I worked as a Hotel receptionist, 2 x guests meant 2 guests on the booking.

We had to try get ever guest number for fire procedures.

Ginorchoc · 13/04/2018 10:00

My hotel rooms bills for expenses always say 2. But I’m on my own!

Dvg · 13/04/2018 10:00

May depend on the hotel. Phone and ask them.

toocool4cats · 13/04/2018 10:03

You should ask yourself why? Why is he secretive about his phone? When he wrestled it out of your hand what reason did he give? Because unless it was done in a jokey way I think you know that Is very suspicious. And as for the hotel making a mistake about the number of guests do you really believe that? I suspect that you already know that this is suspicious behaviour op and you must decide what to do about it. Perhaps if it has been going on for years you have decided that you cannot ignore it any longer?

thethoughtfox · 13/04/2018 11:05

The two things together are very suspicious. TBH, sudden phone secrecy on its own would worry me.

WowserBowser · 13/04/2018 11:10

On its own I wouldn't say it is suspicious. It may just be an error at booking. Or some guests say 2 people so that they get extra tea and coffee etc.

You could look in to if breakfast is included in the rate? Some places will charge two breakfasts as part of the rate for if he was staying alone he would be over charged. If that makes sense.

MaderiaCycle · 13/04/2018 11:12

I always put 2 in so there’s more clean towels, shampoo, pillows etc.

Childrenofthestones · 13/04/2018 11:12

"You should ask yourself why? Why is he secretive about his phone? When he wrestled it out of your hand what reason did he give? Because unless it was done in a jokey way I think you know that Is very suspicious. "

Porn and he hadn't cleared his history or used incognito. I would guess far more men are looking at porn on the sly than having affairs.

Aprilmightbemynewname · 13/04/2018 11:15

Can you access bank statements for that date? See what his expenses were for the evening. Big difference in a meal for 1 and a posh evening out for 2....

wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 13:15

He runs his own business, I have asked before to see accounts just so I know where everything is if anything ever happened to him. He has an accountant but hasn't put me in touch with them, therefore I have absolutely no idea about business expenses etc. This hotel bill was just in our office on his desk (we have separate jobs but I often work from home). I've phoned the hotel saying I was doing tax returns/expenses for a client and spoke to the receptionist. Her English wasn't great but she looked up the invoice and was adamant two guests stayed but she doesn't have the name or contact details for the other person. I really don't know what to think?? How likely is it to be an admin mistake, everything else was spot on. No breakfast, car parking for one car etc.

toocool4cats - it absolutely was not jokey when he wrestled the phone - he pushed me out of the way - it was awful. Says was because he was angry with me that I didn't trust him.

wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 13:18

Dvg - that's what I thought. Why would you put 2 in. I could understand sneaking a person in - but why it clearly said 2.

Anyone? Xx

ProblematicWonder · 13/04/2018 19:46

In my experience, 2 guests means 2 guests. The hotel system that I’m familiar with (although there are loads and this one may be different) picks the number of guests up from the reservation and that’s then displayed on the invoice. Can you see how much the invoice is for and look at the hotel’s tariff to figure out if it’s the amount that you would pay for one person or two?

wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 22:47

Thank you. Next to one of the breakfast one one day it says #2Dkt#0003 what does this mean??

OP posts:
Butterymuffin · 13/04/2018 22:49

What would he have paid for dinner that night with (eg credit card)? Check the statement for that to see if it's an amount suggesting two meals and drinks.

Itsallpropaganda · 13/04/2018 22:53

So he was definitely charged for two breakfasts that day? That does sound dodgy. Hotels do sometimes end up with 2 on a booking by mistake, I've done it myself when I've neglected to change the number of guests from 2 to 1 when booking a double room online. Two breakfasts is a different ball game.

wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 23:01

I don’t get it. Only one breakfast listed but with #2 Dkt#0003 next to it I’m comments box.

OP posts:
wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 23:06

Ps I have no way of checking credit cards I don’t know any of his details xx

OP posts:
Daifuku9 · 13/04/2018 23:07

The breakfast receipt could have been two of the same breakfast. Maybe Dkt#003 is the item and #2 is the number ordered? Or it’s a “breakfast for two” option.
I don’t know, I do think yanbu considering his behavior over his phone.

wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 23:10

Thank you. I hate feeling like this. I can’t function and yet I have to for the kids x

OP posts:
mogloveseggs · 13/04/2018 23:12

The code might be the hotels system code for breakfast-needed for balancing the days business.
On sites such as booking.com the sedauly for guests is always 2 and if you don’t change it it comes through as that to the hotel and it doesn’t always get changed in the invoices. He might be innocent, but pushing like that is not great behaviour at all.

mogloveseggs · 13/04/2018 23:12

Sedualy? Default!

wingingitwithkids · 13/04/2018 23:22

Thank you. I’m trying to keep open minded x
