To think Amazon Packers are taking the piss

Ordered a poster for DDS room.
It came in this box, rolled up inside the perfectly sized acceptable box that was then put in another box and surrounded by paper. Why do they do this!
Is there a reason they couldn't just send the smaller box?!
Mug for scale as it's all I had to hand Grin

Ahh they’ve always been the same and despite complaints, it never changes. I once had a mug come in a box of similar size Confused. It’s bizarre.

MixedHerbs · 12/04/2018 15:31

Gosh you're my DH's perfect match. I'll send him Prime!
This has been his 'thing' for years. He takes photos of ridiculous over-packaging and puts them on his FB so his cronies can all ooh and ahh about them too.
Yep, life is good here. 🙄

ElBandito · 12/04/2018 15:33

Amazon packers have horrible jobs. I like to think of their packing, which must cost Amazon more, as act of rebellion and I applaud them for it.

MallorieArcher · 12/04/2018 15:33

Mixedherbs, I'm so sorry! They do this a lot I know but this is the most ridiculous I have seen, DD was gutted when it turned up as she was convinced it definitely wasn't her poster, I'm more annoyed that my cardboard recycling isn't due for another week so I've got to find somewhere to put this until then (firstworldproblems)

Do they have horrible jobs?! How would you know that? Do you pack for amazon?

Redglitter · 12/04/2018 15:39

This is the packaging I received a clothes pole it.

Thing is, you would have been more pissed off if your poster had arrived crushed.

Afrostyle1000 · 12/04/2018 15:45

A lot of fuss about nothing. YABU

Chrys2017 · 12/04/2018 15:50

It is ridiculous and wasteful. It's because they use 'standard' sized boxes to pack such a huge range of items.
I once had a beauty product (around one by two inches) delivered in a box that could have held two pairs of shoes. The rest was styrofoam peanuts.

Oh deary me! But it WAS her poster so why is she gutted?

crunchymint · 12/04/2018 15:52

Interesting thought that it is maybe an act of rebellion. I know when packing board games in a horrible factory, I used to put extra packs of cards in some boxes as my rebellion.

Chrys2017 · 12/04/2018 15:52

Do they have horrible jobs?! How would you know that?

It's been widely-reported and documented.

Whoops, cross posted with rosared

UpstartCrow · 12/04/2018 15:53

Poster tubes survive the postal system perfectly well Confused

Tansie1 · 12/04/2018 16:04

A UK bloke wrote a book/blog about the few months he spent working in an Amazon warehouse where he was just about the only non Eastern European there. He said the job was unbelievably grim, the inhumane conditions, the draconian security against staff.

Don't know where to begin searching it out (I think I read it in a weekend colour supplement or The Week').

FocusOnMePlease · 12/04/2018 16:04

Well in my experience as a packer at an amazon warehouse -i did not find it was a “horrible job” and nor do my friends who still work there picking and packing for the company.. but if you read it in the MSM then i guess it must be true Hmm

user1andonly · 12/04/2018 16:04

I expect they grab the first box they come to that will hold the item safely. Sometimes this will mean a huge box so the thing can go in diagonally.

They don't have time to go searching around for anything more exact as they are only allowed a set time for each order and walk miles every shift.

It's not the fault of the workers. Amazon as a company should be more concerned about the environment, have a larger range of boxes, including odd sizes, and give the workers extra time for odd shaped things, but then they'd presumably put prices up.

Tansie1 · 12/04/2018 16:05

it wasn't this but you'll get the gist.

A salient reminder to Leavers what lies ahead for them, but heigh ho.

Tansie1 · 12/04/2018 16:06

Focus -glad you will still be around to do the work then. Well done.

MrsHathaway · 12/04/2018 16:06

It ultimately saves resources because they don't have to manufacture and store lots of different sizes of box; and they fit together well like Jenga in big lorries and smaller delivery vans.

I mean, it can get daft when an inch-wide SD card arrives in a box a toddler can hide in, but it's an economies of scale thing, and EYFS are always glad of boxes for junk modelling!

LostPlatypus · 12/04/2018 16:08

Do you think that packer could swap with the ASDA packer I got? Two sets of crockery packed in a huge box with no extra packaging at all. One somehow survived. The other is in gravel-size pieces. I don't have hope for the replacement.

turnipfarmers · 12/04/2018 16:13

The only consolation is that they have now got rid of that awful plastic packaging that they used to us, they are still very wasteful though.

Juells · 12/04/2018 16:13

Gosh, I bet you could pick a fight with your toenails 🤣

FocusOnMePlease · 12/04/2018 16:17

Tansie I would love to still work there.. sadly husbands job took us away from being local so i had to leave -i am still in contact with a lot of people from there but it cant be the one you report about as there was more than one person from the UK working there Wink the conditions really are not as reported i can assure you!
