My husband and socks....

dontticklethetoad · 10/04/2018 19:10

When he gets the children up (and to be fair to him, he does more than his fair share), he brings them downstairs to get dressed and have breakfast.

So far, so good.

BUT he brings them down at least 2 pairs of socks each. Sometimes 3. He can't explain why.
These inevitably get strewn around the living room, then lost, then re-found.

I have just collected 5 pairs and 3 odd socks up and the very sight of them is making me see red. WHY DOES HE DO THIS?

My husband goes mental if I wear his socks or he has an odd one and can't find the other. It's hilarious.

caringiscreepy · 10/04/2018 19:30

Grin. Mine does the opposite op, never puts socks on them/brings them socks. Fully clothed and bare footed 🤷‍♀️

dontticklethetoad · 10/04/2018 19:50

I would prefer that!

The bane of my husband's existence is dealing with socks. He has threatened on countless occasions that he is going to collect and destroy every sock in our house and replace them with all the same style of sock. No different colors, no different sizes. Everyone will be wearing the same damn socks. He goes mental about it once in a blue moon.

WhiteCoyote · 10/04/2018 20:02

My dp has many pairs of practically new socks yet insistently wears the pairs with holes big enough to fit your fist through.

I wish I understood him 🤷‍♀️

dontticklethetoad · 10/04/2018 20:02

Ah see, you think that would be the solution. I did this for teenage Ds and dh. Apparently they still have their 'own' black socks, even though they are pretty much the same ffs.

Keep their socks downstairs?

FizzyWizzyFlash · 10/04/2018 20:21

Your husband sounds like he is a bit broken

You need to take him back to the shop and get him fixed or perhaps consider replacing him with a upgraded model?

Have you checked his batteries? Maybe they need replacing and he needs news ones?

Polkadot1974 · 10/04/2018 20:24

My husband has other sick issues, mainly not matching pairs correctly. I’d prefer if no attempt at matching was made as I have to go back to the paired pairs to check if correct before embarking on new missions to pair. I hate socks.

outabout · 10/04/2018 20:30

But wearing dissimilar socks is 'a thing'.
OP you only need to get him to take unused ones back upstairs and you are sorted surely?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 10/04/2018 20:32

Christ, I’d crack up at him bringing them downstairs to get dressed!! Why?? Just do it upstairs instead of trailing the clothes but downstairs and then hauling the pyjamas back upstairs!

Trinity66 · 10/04/2018 20:34

I steal my DHs socks Shock

NeeChee · 10/04/2018 20:34

At least they're clean socks. There's always at least one pair of used socks in our living room. DP likes to take them off when he gets home and just dumps them. I leave them for him, they do tend to acculmulate lol

FridayNightFun · 10/04/2018 20:34

I always forget socks for the kids.. and me! Drives my husband mad, every single day, my last minute dash upstairs to find socks for us all. I have some sort of sock blindness!

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 10/04/2018 20:42

Thank you dont and thank you duds because from this very night, DS2's socks shall be kept downstairs and my blood pressure shall be reduced.

He has some SN. Can't bear to put socks on until he has to leave the house. He brings them down, sometimes 3 pairs (for options), loses them, gets more, etc.

I can't believe it never occurred to either of us to keep all his socks downstairs. Thanks again for pointing out the bleedin' obvious to me.

KTCluck · 10/04/2018 20:50

My DH has an irritating sock habit too. He takes them off in random places and just leaves them there. Usually the middle of the living room floor but he’s also been known to abandon them in the hall, kitchen and DD’s bedroom. I usually find them just after putting a load of washing on, and there’s alway at least 4 dusty socks under the sofa when I pull it out to vacuum. They sometimes get launched at my head when I’m minding my own business watching TV too. I think I’m just going to hide them all and he’ll have to go sockless. Give me a few clean pairs lying around any day!

I tried that with my socks and it was a failure as after a few months they were slightly different shades depending on how often they had been washed. I've now got socks with the day of the week on them so easy to pair up.

Bea1985 · 10/04/2018 20:54

Every evenings husband takes one sock off and drops it on the floor, when he's watching TV. Just one. I've given up asking him to please remember to collect his sock before he goes to bed.

dontticklethetoad · 10/04/2018 20:57

The other issue is mismatched pyjamas. I'm not particularly fashion forward or trendy, but there is no excuse not to have matching pyjamas top and bottoms.

I could upgrade him, but I am rather fond of him Grin

LockedOutOfMN · 10/04/2018 20:58

Same as Bea. I have to turn a blind eye or it would be divorce, citing socks as the reason.

dontticklethetoad · 10/04/2018 20:58

Bea teenager, Ds 5 and dh all do that.
DD takes her bottom half off at any opportunity.

I did this.

It was the best thing I have EVER done.

My children's school has now got boys wearing a different colour to the girls. Why just why?

So sad.

FlamingGoat · 10/04/2018 20:58

I bought my DP days of the week socks as he's really fussy about his socks matching. Sometimes when he's pissed me off, I mix them up, so a Monday with a Wednesday. It brings me joy.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 10/04/2018 21:02

I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time anyone wore matching pyjamas in our house! Grin if it’s not a onesie your two half’s won’t match in this house!

HeadingForSunshine · 10/04/2018 21:02

A very dear friend of mine who has four boys and a husband gave up with pairing socks. She threw away all the odds, all the holes, discarded all the olds. She bought two wicker baskets for the upstairs landing and 50 pairs of identical black socks and 50 pairs of plain white sports socks. After a while there were mixtures of old and new socks but they didn't care.
