Strange gift from MIL

AIBU to think this a very odd "Easter gift" for a 3-year-old child? It's a devil charm! This isn't the actual one...but a very similar one I just found on Ebay.

Strange gift from MIL

Was she maybe a bit confused and thought it was an angel?

MyNameIsNotSteven · 07/04/2018 21:41

Yes, really unpleasant. Does she have a visual impairment?

Abouttoblow · 07/04/2018 21:42

Although I'm not sure what she thought a 3 year old would do with a charm. Is she going to buy a bracelet and get charms for birthdays?

ManchesterGin · 07/04/2018 21:42

Bizarre. And worrying!!

PercyPigAddict · 07/04/2018 21:43

If she only glanced at it she might have thought it was an angel.... it's only the horrible little face that looks devilish Easter Shock

Pawpaw45 · 07/04/2018 21:44

Not quite. We texted "Thanks, but what is it?" and she replied "It's an angel devil charm because little Pawpaw45 is sometimes an angel and sometimes a devil."
She's not quite angelic but far from being a devil. MIL on the other hand....
It doesn't look remotely angelic to me!

It has horns, hooves and a tail!

Beansprout30 · 07/04/2018 21:45

Hmm I'd be abit upset if someone bought that for my child!

Crispbutty · 07/04/2018 21:46

I think it’s quite funny. It’s something I would treasure as I got older.

Abouttoblow · 07/04/2018 21:47

After that response - weird. I'd bin it.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 07/04/2018 21:48

It's a bit creepy isn't it? I wouldn't give it to a 3 year old put it that way!

HotSauceCommittee · 07/04/2018 21:48

I’d take it in good humour, OP. Your MIL sounds amusingly bizarre.

Pawpaw45 · 07/04/2018 21:50

It's going in the drawer of doom (other weird, though less sinister, gifts from MIL)..

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 07/04/2018 21:53

Oh pleeeeeze tell us about the other weird gifts!

UpstartCrow · 07/04/2018 21:56

You cannot post about the drawer of doom and disappear!

PerfectPenquins · 07/04/2018 21:56

Aw id love that its hilariously weird keep if for when your child's older and see what they want to do with it lol

AnnieAnoniMouser · 07/04/2018 21:56

Oh how odd. Anyway, drawer of doom and move on 🍷

There’s clearly no helping her! 🤣

Awrite · 07/04/2018 22:00

My siblings and I would compete over who got the weirdest gifts from our Grandmother. Great days.

Ellie56 · 07/04/2018 22:01

Drawer of Doom Grin

KurriKurri · 07/04/2018 22:04

Can you find a 'mad as a badger' charm and send it to her in return ?

That’s the sort of gift my mother would send.. thinking she was being thoughtful (couldn’t be arsed to think about it as so busy then rushing out buying tat at the last minute). She famously gave my BIL (sisters husband) a wooden duck garden ornament on his 27th birthday (he didn’t have a garden or penchant for ducks) and me a few years ago an owl (wtf?) Xmas decoration for my birthday in March. She couldn’t see the issue in either items and it was us that didn’t understand the gifts fully.. if I were you I would lock it in a drawer and think no more about it and give lots of really quizzical looks if it’s ever mentioned.

Does the gift reflect her sense of humour?

FlibbertyGiblets · 07/04/2018 22:15

I would be upset by the explanation. That is an ugly item with an ugly sentiment; chuck it in the bin. Your husband needs to tell his mum to pack it in.
