Strange gift from MIL

AIBU to think this a very odd "Easter gift" for a 3-year-old child? It's a devil charm! This isn't the actual one...but a very similar one I just found on Ebay.

send it back and say your child is frightened of it so she needs to give it a good home with her,

Looks kind of creepy...

I think it would depend on the person giving it and their general attitude toward the child. It does seem like one of those things that might make a fun memento when she's older, but it's kind of odd to give/explain to a young child... And the timing (Easter) is a little strange, too, if the family is at all religious.

KurriKurri I've been trying to think up something to send MIL and that would be perfect!

She's British through and through. Not Eastern European within the past 5 generations at least.

I would be upset by the explanation. That is an ugly item with an ugly sentiment; chuck it in the bin. Your husband needs to tell his mum to pack it in.

It's nasty and unsuitable too. I'd bin it, and say it's lost. If she replaced it, I'd bin that too.

Some people bond over jokes about their awful children.

You see it a lot of that competitive deprecating humor among parents in TV and in films too.

Maybe this is her (very bad) attempt at that?

On it's own it's ugly as fuck. But the explanation makes it cute and accurate(for most kids) so I'd keep it.
Without a backstory I don't get why so many people would be fuming. Hmm
