Strange gift from MIL

AIBU to think this a very odd "Easter gift" for a 3-year-old child? It's a devil charm! This isn't the actual one...but a very similar one I just found on Ebay.

Strange gift from MIL

send it back and say your child is frightened of it so she needs to give it a good home with her,

or say your child loves it and is telling everyone it looks just like granny.
I would be livid if someone sent my child this. Your husband needs to set his mother straight.

Becles · 07/04/2018 22:19

I think it's quite an amusing gift andone of those tongue in cheek gifts to show she loves your dd whatever side she's showing.

SandyY2K · 07/04/2018 22:20

I'd throw it away personally. It's horrible.

Freyanna · 07/04/2018 22:23

What a horrible gift, when she could have chosen a lovely angel.

Maybe you could sell it on ebay, I would want rid of it.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 07/04/2018 22:23

I remember telling a lovely trilingual French woman we knew that we called DD Angelita, she said, "No, Diabolita! The devil has more fun!" Grin

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/04/2018 22:30

Bin it !

AmericanEskimoDoge · 07/04/2018 22:34

Looks kind of creepy...

I think it would depend on the person giving it and their general attitude toward the child. It does seem like one of those things that might make a fun memento when she's older, but it's kind of odd to give/explain to a young child... And the timing (Easter) is a little strange, too, if the family is at all religious.

Pawpaw45 · 07/04/2018 22:36

KurriKurri I've been trying to think up something to send MIL and that would be perfect!

She's British through and through. Not Eastern European within the past 5 generations at least.

Very weird, but conveniently small and easily lost Wink

KatherinaMinola · 07/04/2018 22:43

I would be upset by the explanation. That is an ugly item with an ugly sentiment; chuck it in the bin. Your husband needs to tell his mum to pack it in.

This.

snowagain · 07/04/2018 22:47

God it's ugly.

And a 3 y.o. should not be having small items like this. They could choke.

To quote a famous mumsnet line....... is your MIL on glue? Hmm

Marcipex · 07/04/2018 22:48

It's nasty and unsuitable too. I'd bin it, and say it's lost. If she replaced it, I'd bin that too.

StephiD3 · 07/04/2018 22:49

That has made me belly laugh.Grin

feska5 · 07/04/2018 22:49

Very strange. Throw it away and tell your MIL it wasn’t a welcome gift.

ApocalypseNowt · 07/04/2018 22:56

I like it!

NeverKnowWhat · 07/04/2018 23:05

Please give us more info about the other contents of "the drawer of doom".

WeirdyMcBeardy · 07/04/2018 23:07

It's a choking hazard, bin it. Grin

I'd be resentful of any present that implied my child was unpleasant, especially from a GP!

YaBasic · 07/04/2018 23:13

Absolutely keep it - whilst it won't come into its own for ages yet, it might well be loved when Halloween rears its ugly head in a few years time Wink

NotTakenUsername · 07/04/2018 23:18

I like her explanation! It suits most children to be fair... Grin

Weebo · 07/04/2018 23:18

Some people bond over jokes about their awful children.

You see it a lot of that competitive deprecating humor among parents in TV and in films too.

Maybe this is her (very bad) attempt at that?

RebelRogue · 07/04/2018 23:21

On it's own it's ugly as fuck. But the explanation makes it cute and accurate(for most kids) so I'd keep it.
Without a backstory I don't get why so many people would be fuming. Hmm

LeighaJ · 07/04/2018 23:26

I wouldn't want a charm like that as an adult, it is frighteningly ugly for starters and for Easter? Really? Easter Confused

ShadesOfHoratio · 07/04/2018 23:42

I'm dying to know what else is in the Drawer of Doom :)
