Trying on shoes... socks or no socks?

I'm sure you're all suitably excited by this title.

I was in Newlook earlier trying on a pair of court heels, and naturally I took off my socks when trying them on. My DSis, who was present, reckons this is absolutely appalling behaviour, and even though I wouldn't wear socks with them if I bought them, I must keep my socks on when trying them in store "for hygiene reasons". But surely then I wouldn't get a true feel for the shoe and its fit? AIBU?

Yes it’s minging take a clean pop sock or some shops will give you a new disposable pop sock
But eugh it’s Minging
Other folk have to potentially buy or try it on too

TroubledLichen · 04/04/2018 21:51

Oh that’s grim, there’s a reason naice shoe shops give you pop socks. What if someone had done that 5 minutes before you and had a verruca?!

Lacucuracha · 04/04/2018 21:53

Oh whatevs, 90% of people don't try on shoes without wearing pop sox, why should you be part of the 10%?!

You crack on OP.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/04/2018 21:53

If I’m buying I take my own clean pop sock, check size & fit
Then order online so it’s not been tried on by hundred others

Lacucuracha · 04/04/2018 21:53

*double negative there - meant 'try on shoes withoit wearing pop sox'.

SerenDippitty · 04/04/2018 21:53

Yes it’s gross.

NewYearNewMe18 · 04/04/2018 21:54

Minging. . Pop socks all the way

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/04/2018 21:54

naturally I took off my socks when trying them on. Nothing natural about that at all. Are you happy at the thought of putting your foot into the cloud of toenail fungus spores introduced by the last person who tried them on bare foot?

In old fashioned shoe shops where an assistant brought you shoes to try on, you'd not have been allowed to try them bare foot, and there's no reason for the standards to be lowered in a self service place.

Fifthtimelucky · 04/04/2018 21:55

In principle I agree with your sister, though socks would be odd if you are trying on court shoes. Very unhygienic to try on shoes in bare feet. You should take some pop socks or thin trainer liners with you, though in my view, so that you can put those on before trying on the shoes.

Lacucuracha · 04/04/2018 21:55

Like no one tries on and returns shoes bought online.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 04/04/2018 21:57

You're a minger.

The thought of putting my bare foot into a communal shoe makes me heave.

crazycatgal · 04/04/2018 21:58

It's minging. It doesn't matter if it's a shoe that I will wear without socks, I don't try on shoes in bare feet.

CoffeenoTea · 04/04/2018 21:58

shoes online have been tried many times. Also stock is recalled from shops its not selling at for online sales.

BackforGood · 04/04/2018 21:59

Your sister is right. If you are trying on shoes that won't fit right with thicker sock, then take some pop socks with you. If you don't buy them, who wants them after your sweaty bare feet have been in them ?

Ginmakesitallok · 04/04/2018 22:01

Dear God what is it with mn tonight? First eating a random cake found on the bus, now trying on shoes with bare feet. Yuck!

DamnWhyAreAllTheUsernamesTaken · 04/04/2018 22:03

Pretty sure everyone’s done it OP, I wouldn’t worry! I certainly have anyway - what’s one to do if you weren’t specifically looking for shoes so didn’t pack your pop socks but see an amazing pair?! Not really any different to trying on clothes that someone else has worn IMO...

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 04/04/2018 22:05

Socks! Always socks! Verrucas! Fungal toes! That curanail ad! Socks!

frasier · 04/04/2018 22:06

Who ate a random cake on a bus?

Nanny0gg · 04/04/2018 22:07

Why do you think shops supply you with clean socks to wear to try on shoes?

Foul

TroubledLichen · 04/04/2018 22:22

One thing I’ve learnt from this thread is that when I buy shoes in future I’m giving them a clean inside with a wet wipe before my feet go anywhere near them!

MamaMilkMachine · 04/04/2018 22:23

Cake on a bus?? I'm intrigued, even searched for it just now but can't find it haha

orangesmartieseggs · 04/04/2018 22:24

Uh, you know loads of online orders are fulfilled by stores and that most of the products you get have probably been tried on before?!

Megatron · 04/04/2018 22:25

Socks woman! Socks!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/04/2018 22:25

Really?
I thought it’d be boxfresh and brand new. To date everything I’ve ordered has been new

flowerslemonade · 04/04/2018 22:27

lol do you try swimming costumes on without pants as well?
