BellyDancer124 · 26/03/2018 21:04

Please kind people, share with me your tips to help with a kidney infection Sad I go on holidays tomorrow and can’t deal with travelling whilst in this discomfort/pain. Anyone got some good tips?? Don’t have time to visit GP...

If you have a kidney infection you need antibiotics. Can you call out of hours gp and take a sample with you? In scotland some pharmacies can test your urine and dispense antibiotics for uti's if youre a woman between 16 and 55 i think, would that be an option for tomorrow?

Thehamsterspajamas · 26/03/2018 21:09

If it’s def a kidney infection you really need antibiotics ASAP. Can u get an OOH appt tonight. When I have kidney infections the pain is dreadful and I have high temp, vomit and feel horrible. I’ve never travelled in this state and really wouldn’t want to.

SeaToSki · 26/03/2018 21:10

You have to go to a doctor.

JT05 · 26/03/2018 21:11

Antibiotics a must, perhaps cancel holiday as it could be more serious.
Hope you feel better soon.
It was the worse pain ever!

BabyBooDue · 26/03/2018 21:11

Yep, antibiotics!

I had a kidney infection 7/8 years ago and the pain was horrendous.

pudcat · 26/03/2018 21:12

Our walk in minor injuries unit deals with urinary infections. Can you get to one of those? How on earth do you think can travel tomorrow? You could be doing untold damage.

BellyDancer124 · 26/03/2018 21:13

Okay I will def go to emergency surgery tomorrow morn, didn’t think it warranted an emergency appt but I am in agony so thank you all! In the meantime, any tips to ease the pain tonight Sad thanks again!!

There's only one tip. You must see a doctor. It's not going to get better by ignoring it. You need anti biotics

TovaGoldCoin · 26/03/2018 21:16

If you genuinely have a kidney infection, as opposed to cystitis, you need medical attention. I have had several which needed courses of strong antibiotics and naproxen. Don't risk your health, go to ooh care.

WineAndTiramisu · 26/03/2018 21:16

Can you go to the out of hours GP now? The quicker you get antibiotics started the quicker the pain will go away.

Try drinking lots of water to dilute urine and take paracetamol and ibuprofen

Watto1 · 26/03/2018 21:18

I echo what the above posters say. Go to the docs. In the meantime, drink lots and lots of water to help flush it out.

Raver84 · 26/03/2018 21:19

Get an ooh appointment when I had one last year the pain and fever got steadily worse until I got antibiotics then once I started them it took another 12 or so hours for them to kick in a bit.

Thehamsterspajamas · 26/03/2018 21:19

No tips other than lots of fluids and painkillers and doctor preferably tonight or in morning if not. Kidney infections can get serious very quickly. I went from unwell to in serious pain and bad flu like symptoms with vomiting within a few hours. If you don’t treat them fast you can very easily end up
On iv antibiotics in hospital.

BellyDancer124 · 26/03/2018 21:20

To be honest I’ve self diagnosed so could be wrong but the pain is right where my kidneys are.. I had a uti last year and thought it was the end... this isn’t too bad in comparison but I can’t stand up straight/ get out of paid without help so obviously it’s still bad enough. Thanks for the advice.. gonna drink lots and go to emergency surgery first thing 👍Smile

In case you have gravel or stones in your kidney try drinking pure apple juice ( the cloudy sort) . I was told the citric acid dissolves the stones. It did seem to help my bout of infection.

shouldnthavesaid · 26/03/2018 21:21

Another saying go to OOH asap - I've had 3, they are not pleasant. Was in hospital on Thursdsy and lady next to me had one too unfortunately, she was dreadfully unwell.

BellyDancer124 · 26/03/2018 21:22

JT05 will do, thank you! I’ve read cranberry juice is good too apparently

DancingLedge · 26/03/2018 21:22

Don't go away without antibiotics, (and travel medical insurance.)
Unless you're really keen to end up in a foreign hospital. And take really good care of yourself for a few days.

Thehamsterspajamas · 26/03/2018 21:23

Good luck. If you start to feel really unwell and have cold hands and feet, bad headache, dizziness and aren’t passing urine you MUST get seen urgently as in tonight.

BellyDancer124 · 26/03/2018 21:28

When it first came over me in work this morning I felt dizzy and hot, but honestly I feel okay not just very uncomfortable lower back pain. Peeing is fine (unlike last years uti which was like pissing fire) so I think I will be okay until I see GP in the morn. I have travel insurance also, and will make sure to get sorted before I go away ✈️ Thanks for all the advice everyone!

TheEgregiousPeach · 26/03/2018 21:37

Are you throwing up? If you have that with high temperature get seen now, if not could be just nasty UTI but not threatening.

Maria1982 · 26/03/2018 21:38

Kidney infection or kidney stones,
Either way you need a doctor!

As others have said, kidney infections are not to be messed with!

numptynuts · 26/03/2018 21:42

Please make sure you see that GP! I've just got over a kidney infection, I felt dreadful.

Antibiotics soon knocked it on the head but it is VERY unwise to ignore.

Hope you feel better soon and happy holidays Thanks

BellyDancer124 · 26/03/2018 22:00

No vomiting at all, appetite fine too (as always!) thank you numptynuts I definitely will Grin
