To hate the clocks changing

Rach5l · 25/03/2018 22:40

??? I can't be the only one
And I live in the north. With kids who catch a bus to school.
I understand about making winter mornings safer but what about winter evenings? Surely cars, headlights and general awareness are better these days than when it was set.
Tractors these days are super high tech
Someone please explain the rationale I need good reasons or it's going to continue to bother me

The clocks have gone back so we get lighter evenings? Id have it this way all the time! Have I misunderstood?

alligatortoss · 25/03/2018 22:46

I really don’t understand your problem? Confused

tigercub50 · 25/03/2018 22:46

I think double summer time would be good - hate the shorter days in the winter months. And I always take a while to adjust when the clocks go back or forward

Ishouldntbesolucky · 25/03/2018 22:47

YABU -We get lighter evenings!

Rach5l · 25/03/2018 22:47

Yea preferably stay on summertime for me, but just generally the clocks changing is so irritating.
You don't get a day added on to the week or an extra day on a month, the time like the date should stay the same!

Well DS1 is still lying awake in bed so yes, I hate the clock change too!

BakedBeans47 · 25/03/2018 22:48

I love BST and the clocks going forward

Rach5l · 25/03/2018 22:49

So do I but I want to stay on it

Instead of a Brexit referendum I'd have preferred a 'should we leave the clocks well alone' referendum!

It would've been a much simpler question.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/03/2018 22:50

The clocks have gone back so we get lighter evenings?

They’ve gone forward this time. They go back in winter.

BakedBeans47 · 25/03/2018 22:51

Oh yeah op me too. I hate dark nights

OwlinaTree · 25/03/2018 22:51

Lol yes of course they went forward!

We get an extra day added for a leap year.

kiplingback · 25/03/2018 22:53

i don't understand why you are talking about winter when we have just moved to summertime.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 25/03/2018 22:54

Oh I don't know, the thought of going back to BST gets me through the first 2 weeks of March. There was some dicussion some time ago about either staying on BST 365 or doing double DS in March & then reverting to +1 GMT in October but it was shelved, can't remeber why. I quite liked the idea.

steff13 · 25/03/2018 22:56

I hate the day after the time change.

To hate the clocks changing
PickAChew · 25/03/2018 22:56

I'm in the north and don't want to stay in BST in winter. I can deal with useful daylight between 8:30 and 3:30 in December. It's hard enough getting going in the morning without it still being dark at 9sm. And even if we were in BST, it would still be dark by evening rush hour.

PickAChew · 25/03/2018 22:58

Steffe :)

I was a month into my first pregnancy, this time 15 years ago and losing that hour floored me completely. I simply couldn't spare it!

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2018 22:59

I'm not sure what you're talking about either to be honest.

The clocks go forward in summer to give us longer lighter evenings. In winter you can't make both evenings and mornings safer, you pick one. They picked mornings.

UrsulaPandress · 25/03/2018 23:06

I love it.

MadameLaplante · 25/03/2018 23:08

YACompletelyU. Sorry. In fact, darkness ought to be abolished. Full Stop.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 25/03/2018 23:10

I love it. I’d do the double both ways if I had my way.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/03/2018 23:11

I'm at odds with most other people. Although I love a bit of light early evening to go for a run, generally I dislike the clocks going forward as I have no great love of long summer days Grin

I'm a winter person and love it when 'the nights start drawing in.'

LimonViola · 25/03/2018 23:11

I don't really like it as I prefer it getting darker earlier and staying darker later into the morning.

LapdanceShoeshine · 25/03/2018 23:12

They tried keeping BST over the winter in the late 60s. I was living near London & it was still dark when I got to school - imagine how it was in Scotland!

I think the system we've got is the best compromise we can hope for really.

norfolka · 25/03/2018 23:14

Shit! Hadn't realised how late it was, it doesn't feel like 11pm.

Tomorrow morning's going to be rubbish!
