AIBU and delusional RE honeymoon

I'm trying and failing here! I'm looking for a honeymoon to Mexico for the pair of us. I'm looking for around 10-14 nights, all inclusive between Aug 11-31. Our budget is £2000.

I'm being delusional right? The cheapest I've found is £3200.

You're probably delusional, unless you're travelling from the US. Sorry!
Sadly, it seems that the flights from the UK reallly run the costs up.

Would gladly stand corrected, though (if you can provide a secret deal-finder that I can use, too!)

NewIdeasToday · 23/03/2018 21:10

Keep looking. You should be able to get Mexico for much less than that. Have you looked at the normal package holidays?

LadySainsburySeal · 23/03/2018 21:11

Why go AI? This means that the local restaurants and bars don't get much tourist custom as you're eating and drinking in the vanilla environment of the resort.

GreenVoyage · 23/03/2018 21:11

Yes that's what I've been looking at is package deals!

Do you have to go during school holiday time? It would be much more affordable if you could postpone your honeymoon for a while. Also are you 100% set on Mexico? August is the start of hurricane season.

guiltynetter · 23/03/2018 21:13

New ideas you do realise they’re going school holidays? i don’t think she will get cheaper. i recently priced up for 2 adults 2 kids AI in mexico, in august and it came up at nearly 4 grand 😱

GreenVoyage · 23/03/2018 21:15

Yes has to be school holidays Sad DP is a teacher and I'm a trainee! We would consider Caribbean maybe. Something long haul and exotic.

OP posts:
bookgirl1982 · 23/03/2018 21:16

£2000 each or total?

GreenVoyage · 23/03/2018 21:17

Total Sad

ohwhataday · 23/03/2018 21:18

The flights alone with be £2000 for 2, you'll have to think again.
Have you looked at Thomson or Thomas Cook LH packages, maybe Cuba would be cheaper?

mischiefinprogress · 23/03/2018 21:20

Try Dominican Republic or Cuba, they're often the cheapest places in the Caribbean (but I have had great holidays in both of them). Or how about Cape Verde?

PlaymobilPirate · 23/03/2018 21:20

Where in the country are you? Scottish schools go back mid August so you can usually fly from Scottish airports for -500 ish

MissWimpyDimple · 23/03/2018 21:23

I think at that time of year you are wasting your money in Mexico or long haul. The weather in Europe or closer should be excellent.

Having said that, August is peak uk holiday time and anything will be expensive.

DailyMailFail101 · 23/03/2018 21:24

Do not go to Cape Verde, I went on my honeymoon it was awful, have a look at Goa, some amazing deals to Goa.

JoJoSM2 · 23/03/2018 21:26

2k for 2 or per person? Anyway, I'd say Bali can be a good budget option that's high quality. Mexico can be a bit Benidorm only full of Americans.

travailtotravel · 23/03/2018 21:28

Are you looking at resorts in Yucatan e.g. Playa and Cancun. Mexico city rocks like nowhere else. You could flying into there and heading for the Pacific coast. Or looking at Acapulco. Look at flights with klm/ air France.

Just back from a month there 😁

Quartz2208 · 23/03/2018 21:29

I would say so - even 11 years ago AI in Cuba was 1400 for 2 so I reckon around 2500 minimum sounds right

Newideas what makes you think she can get mexico for cheaper

GabsAlot · 23/03/2018 21:30

nah cant seeit being done all inclusive for that price in august-maybe look at other places

GreenVoyage · 23/03/2018 21:30

Thank you! I might have to lower my expectations! Sad

OP posts:
GingerKitCat · 23/03/2018 21:33

TUI have AI deals to Cancun for under £3k for 2 for your dates (use the filter for departure date and duration). Don't think you'll find anything for £2k in August unless you happen across a glitch.

Which UK airports are you closest to?

I understand there's an additional £45pp departure tax in Mexico that TUI don't include. Payable in cash (pesos/US dollars/GBP) at the airport.

kaytee87 · 23/03/2018 21:34

No chance

Our holiday last year was 2 weeks self catering in Spain and it was £1800.

We went to Mexico in 2014 and it was £2400 which was cheap at the time, huge group booking.

kaytee87 · 23/03/2018 21:34

Mexico is unbearably humid in July / August. You'd be better going during the Christmas holidays

LoveInTokyo · 23/03/2018 21:35

If you want an all inclusive resort then why Mexico? You could be anywhere sunny.

Crispbutty · 23/03/2018 21:37

Ask people to donate towards honeymoon instead of gifts maybe?

theredjellybean · 23/03/2018 21:38

Why Mexico?
There are fantastic romantic luxury places much nearer in Europe.
Though you'd still probably struggle to get luxury AI in school holidays.
What about Italy? But not AI?
