AIBU and delusional RE honeymoon

I'm trying and failing here! I'm looking for a honeymoon to Mexico for the pair of us. I'm looking for around 10-14 nights, all inclusive between Aug 11-31. Our budget is £2000.

I'm being delusional right? The cheapest I've found is £3200.

Google's flight matrix is suggesting indirect with AirCanada from Heathrow is the cheapest option. That would be 10 nights flying out August 22nsd though so cutting it very close for school starting but is coming up as £610 each at the moment.

We used Trivago to find the cheapest hotel for our honeymoon and paid £600 for 10 nights at the Grand Xcaret using a 10% off code on booking.com

We went to Bali on honeymoon, partly because it was thousands cheaper than the Caribbean! Try Sri Lanka too? East much cheaper than west when we looked (although it was 20 years ago...).

pandarific · 23/03/2018 22:31

Mauritius maybe? There were a couple of deals for about that on travelzoo recently!

YimminiYoudar · 23/03/2018 22:32

For £2000 you are definitely delusional. You can have a lovely holiday shorthaul or UK for that.

itsbetterthanabox · 23/03/2018 23:17

Cuba is cheaper. Holguin area in particular.
However it's still going to be loads more than budget that time of year plus the weather will be extremely humid and verging on hurricane season. Winter is the best time to go any Caribbean.

I’ve found that booking flights & hotels separately you can save about £1,000 on a fortnight to the states ....haven’t tried Mexico but maybe worth a try?

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/03/2018 10:47

Anyway, I'd say Bali can be a good budget option that's high quality. Mexico can be a bit Benidorm only full of Americans

Careful where you go in Bali, isn't that just Benidorm for Australians in parts?

In August the whole of Europe is hot, you've got myriad beautiful places to choose from with cheaper airfares

Agree, you could get a lovely luxury 5 star in Europe, all sorts of interesting places.

Seniorcitizen1 · 24/03/2018 12:22

You should check the weather forecasts - our summer is their hurricane/ rainy season

PNGirl · 24/03/2018 12:29

August is a risk for hurricanes. I have been to New York and DH has been to Florida in August. Both of us had a hurricane. I'd not want to risk cancelled flights.

All inclusive you could be anywhere, as you probably wont leave the resort as it will cost you more to explore.

You could do a luxurious villa in Greece/Spain if you look around carefully. In August the weather is glorious. Crete would be a good choice.

BarbaraofSevillle · 24/03/2018 12:58

One of our best holidays was touring round Andalusia. Granada, Malaga, Seville and Cordoba. Fabulous but would be hellishly hot in August.

If you just want nice AI, what about the Canaries? Might be slightly more moderate but still glorious weather than mainland Europe.

Plenty to do like caves, volcanoes, botanic gardens, arty stuff, watersports in Lanzarote, Tenerife and probably Gran Canaria and if you get a luxe Adults only All Inclusive it would be a lovely honeymoon.

itsbetterthanabox · 24/03/2018 17:36

You'd be better waiting until winter but for that budget you can get amazing 5 star luxury in goa.
August is monsoon but some people do go then and recommend it as it's so much cheaper! You just can't fly direct then as only Thomas cook and tui fly direct and they only fly in the winter. You'd have to change in Delhi or Mumbai.
Go B&B as the food is so good and cheap in goa. The beaches are stunning with warm sea, lots to do and cheap to get about and see things. I'd thoroughly recommend for a cheap, luxury, tropical honeymoon with a not too long flight (10 hours direct)

MorningsEleven · 24/03/2018 17:52

I'd go to Sardinia or South of France.

There's a lot of pressure for a honeymoon to be "the trip of a lifetime". We went away 6 months after our honeymoon for a wee cheapy £500 job in the South of France (I'm not counting the 3 crates of wine in that figure) and it was so much more relaxed and more fun and more naked stuff.

RidingWindhorses · 24/03/2018 18:46

Sardinia is gorgeous. Amalfi coast. Monte Argentario. Greek islands.
