Fears and phobias are irrational and they just seem to appeal to your logical mind to combat them.

I don't get what methodology they use and I'm sure people just go along and agree with them to get away.

What they do doesn't make sense to me what am I missing?

What? Who? Please explain what you are talking about.

Oysterbabe · 21/03/2018 11:55

The what now?

BennyTheBall · 21/03/2018 11:58

I don't either.

That woman on This Morning had such debilitating claustrophobia and had had for years. Then bam! after a chat with the Speakmans, she's cured!

faceremovinghaircream · 21/03/2018 11:59

They are nuts!

donners312 · 21/03/2018 12:09

ha ha - so it is not just me then.

The rare some sort of therapists on TV who bizarrely claim to cure people of phobias etc by basically making them see how irrational thoughts are - I mean as if!!!

I think i will google their back ground I just cannot believe they have any training of substance and must just have a good PR team?

Nik and Eva Speakman have studied and worked together since 1992, both sharing a passion to help people lead happier and less inhibited lives. Studying the work of Ivan Pavlov, John Watson, Jean Piaget and B.F. Skinner they acquired an intellectual curiosity for behaviourism and conditioning. After many breakthroughs, their studies transformed into the creation of their own behavioural change therapy known as ‘Schema Conditioning’.®
The couple work with, and have treated many high profile clients and have had countless successes. They are resident therapists on ITV’s award winning ‘This Morning’ and had their own shows, one of which, ‘The Speakmans’, also aired on ITV. They have also appeared on numerous other shows as expert contributors.
Nik and Eva help people through many mediums including live workshops, tours, books, radio and TV. They have many exciting plans for their future in the U.K., Europe and USA. At the heart of all of their plans lies a relentless mission to assist as many people as they can to overcome their issues, and improve the quality of their lives.

just said they have studied together - weird? Studied what and what qualifications?

OP posts:
StormyLovesOdd · 21/03/2018 12:13

I know looks arent everything but they look so odd too, kind of like a poor David Copperfield and his assistant in training.

cheesydoesit · 21/03/2018 12:13

My friend is a clinical psychologist and she fucking hates the Speakmans. She thinks they're really irresponsible in their methods.

donners312 · 21/03/2018 12:15

Stormy - cracked me up!!

Cheesy - I bet!! I think that too.

I literally have to turn the TV over whenever they come on. Such tripe. All they do is say the same thing to every person about every fear. It isn’t the planes fault your scared of flying it was your older brother from when he chucked you off the sofa when you were 8. Hmm

Flimp · 21/03/2018 12:21

But WHAT do they do??? and in just one session?! Surely it's hypnosis or witchcraft or something

RLOU88 · 21/03/2018 12:24

They make people feel like they have to go along with it 😂 I’ve seen some pretty scared “cured people” holding spiders after a session lol

Missingstreetlife · 21/03/2018 12:24

Would be interesting to see the people they cured after a year or two

NekoHime · 21/03/2018 12:27

They do my head in. I've had agoraphobia for 12 years - I know how irrational my fears are! I'm 99% certain they wouldn't be able to help me. They might be able to get me to leave my comfort zone. They might even be able to get me to temporarily feel comfortable doing it. I wouldn't be cured though. I'd like to see follow ups with people they claim to have cured to see how long it actually lasts.

donners312 · 21/03/2018 12:36

It literally is a case of "pull yourself together you are being so stupid" and TA DA!!! see you are alright now.

It's not hypnosis, and I wondered if its a bit of NLP but...

Their bio saying studies together but doesn't say studied what? and then have developed their own type of therapy?? just nuts.

Laughing at "it's not the planes fault" ha ha

AdalindSchade · 21/03/2018 12:38

They are total cranks but phobias can be cured very quickly though hypnosis and CBT. The friendly spider programme is 3 hours long and has almost 100% success rate

donners312 · 21/03/2018 12:41

yes but they arn't doing hypnosis or CBT??

OP posts:
CakeOfThePan · 21/03/2018 12:43

They have a pet serval, i have many questions about this. Do they let it out like a pet cat? If so what dead animals does it come in with? E.g next doors chihuahua? Or do they walk it on a lead?
When it scratches the furniture, is there any furniture left? Does it sleep on the bed? Does it have a crazy half hour where it just runs round and what does it destroy if it does?

Sorry i realise this isn't about the curing people thing!

AlishaMary · 21/03/2018 12:44

I’ve always assumed that what they actually “do” isn’t screened, just the preamble.

Bugjune · 21/03/2018 12:46

I'm convinced they're siblings and will not be told otherwise!

Gottagetmoving · 21/03/2018 12:48

Bloody hell, You don't really understand something so ridicule it?
It's not as simple as what you see on the TV features. They don't cure people in minutes!
They have had success with people suffering PTSD where all other methods had failed.

donners312 · 21/03/2018 12:48

What is a serval??? off to google.

Siblings - LOL!!

I know - they must do something off air but what? Then they would say its hypnosis or whatever, plus their chat is just so odd?

OP posts:
donners312 · 21/03/2018 12:50

Gotta - Do you know what modality they use? Thats what I am asking what do they do? Because they seem to use logic?

OP posts:
PrettyWisdomous · 21/03/2018 12:55

How weird, I nearly started this exact same thread thus morning!

I'm convinced they're siblings and will not be told otherwise!

They have almost identical noses - definitely siblings!
