To empty my dyson straight into the outside bin?

Is this really bad manners? It always causes such a dust cloud when I try to empty the canister into a plastic bag first and seems an environmental waste anyway.

Not sure if relevant but I live in a terraced house with not much space between the outside bins and everyone’s front doors and windows. My neighbour uses a fancy bin cleaning company to jet wash his bin in the street every so often and he was so visibly offended when he saw me chucking the dust straight in my outside bin that I thought he might pop.

It’s not ok, rubbish should be bagged - for te sake of the bin crew if nothing else.

Meh! I empty mine straight into the bin for similar reasons. The bins just get wheeled up to the lorry and emptied without anyone opening it, so I can't see what difference it makes to the bin men (and yes, they are all men around here).

I don’t think you are being unreasonable. The amount of plastic that’s thrown away is far more damaging than a bit of dust outside.

I always put it in the compost recycling bin - vacuum dust is dead skin, hair, pet hair, dirt, mud - its all recycleable waste. So no, it isn't bagged

I think its a bit grim to be honest. I had a go at my other half for throwing half-eaten sandwiches in mine the other day. You can get huge bin liners for wheelie bins. Why not just put one of those inside then you can throw anything in it and not have to worry about maggots.

I'd have guessed you're supposed to do that. The fewer plastic bags used the better, so tipping it straight in seems sensible. I can't imagine the bin men have any preference, and your neighbor really needs to have a word with himself if he's bothered about your bin getting dusty.

I put mine straight into the outside bin. Never gave it a second thought to be honest.

Why not empty it into the indoor bin with everything else?

I throw mine straight in the bin. It's a bin ffs it's not going to be spotless. Why would you package Hoover dust up into a plastic bag that then takes hundreds of years to decompose.

if you have wheely bins that are tipped directly into the truck there isn't even a need for bin bags at all.
we only use bags (usually paper flour bags) for sticke stuff.

I live in terraced housing and I empty my dyson outside in the wheelie bin. Who cares what others think? Besides I don’t want to empty in the bin inside as I don’t want dust everywhere as I have asthma and emptying the hoover is the worst thing for me so id rather do it outside in an open space

Mine goes straight into the wheelie bin, I've done that this morning actually.

I would never do that, yes emptying it into the kitchen bin is a faff but I use a sheet of kitchen roll and spray cleaner to wip around the bin lid. I also pay someone to jetwash my household rubbish bin, it’s one thing I can’t stand, smelly bins.

Actually I think it’s a good point about the bin men’s exposure risk when emptying normal wheelie bins with mostly bagged rubbish inside. If it makes a cloud of dust when I empty it into the bin, it will do this when they empty the wheelie bin too. If it’s emptied into a wetter compost bin this wouldn’t happen

I think this sounds a bit lazy. I always empty into a bag first. I'd hate to have someone else's hoover waste blowing on my windows/doors

Generally if you don’t bag waste you’ll eventually end up with a load on the bottom of the bin that just doesn’t tip.

I used to work for a local authority and residents were advised to bag all rubbish. Can you not get biodegradable bags now anyway?

We empty ours into newspaper (yes that old-fashioned but very useful stuff!) wrap up the dust either to go on the compost heap or on the wood burner if it's alight

I would hate getting the dust in my hair or on my skin every time I went to the wheelie. Also it must stick to the sides making it horrible.

I always take it outside so any escaped dust doesn’t fly around my house.

I’ve recently stopped bagging my hoover contents. It does make a dust cloud when I empty it, but it did that anyway if I did it in to a bag. I’m just quick and shut the lid as soon as it’s all out, let it settle in it’s own time.

Everyone is different. All my household rubbish that isn’t recycled gets bagged before binning. It keeps down smells.
