And whether you tend to lose/gain or maintain your weight?

Unless I monitor every single mouthful I take I seem to gain weight. Just wondering if what I normally eat is that much different to other people.

I need to lose 4 pounds.
I gained 4 during the recent snow/bad weather because we were stuck at home for a few days and I ate more than usual.

Today I have had

2 slices of whole meal toast with butter for breakfast.
A cup of tea.
2 crackers with a slice of cheese.
A Jaffa cakes mini roll and a cup of coffee.

I'll have an apple when I get hungry later and dinner tonight is a small beef stir fry.

I'll probably have a cup of tea before bed with 2 biscuits.

I maintain eating like this.

MouseholeCat · 14/03/2018 11:59

Yesterday was fairly standard:

Berries, yoghurt and oats
A banana
Spinach, blue cheese, apple and asparagus salad w. olive oil dressing
2 squares dark chocolate
Spaghetti with sausage, tomato sauce, roasted red pepper and artichoke + parmesan
2 cups black coffee, 1 cup lemon ginger tea, 1 sparkling water
Some Pringles (probably about 10?).

I don't diet or anything, so this is just standard. Maintained the same weight for years so I know I'm meeting my calorie needs.

MissP103 · 14/03/2018 12:01

Breakfast: chicken and veg panini with a coffee
Yoghurt smoothie

Lunch: chicken briyani
Custard and cake

Supper: not sure as yet

I have a big appetite but I literally lose weight blinking my eyes. Have always been a size 6-8 But would like to gain a bit more weight.

BluebellCockleshell123 · 14/03/2018 12:07

BMI = 24. My weight stays fairly steady without too much effort.

A normal day for me would be:

B: omelette with ham or poached egg on toast with OJ
L: salad (chicken, tuna, mackerel, etc) or soup & roll
D: normal stuff - pasta, rice, noodles, all with protein & veg
Snack: chocolate biscuit.

Alcohol: 4 nights a week

I am trying to lose weight at the moment so have ditched the carby dinners for protein & veg and have cut the alcohol down to 2 nights. Finding it hard to stop the daily chocolate though.

Glitterspy · 14/03/2018 12:10

I cut out sugar on Friday and just wanted fruit/veg/meat/ pulses (effectively I've cut carbs and the only sugary thing I've eaten since is a nature valley bar). Couple of glasses of wine in there too. I've lost 1.5kg since Friday, hardly believable.

Today which is fairly normal I've had:
Fruit (grapes and apple mainly)
Potato and veg frittata salad with some chicken
Coffee (with whole milk)
2 x tea (with semi)

VileyRose · 14/03/2018 12:12

FluffyPersian · 14/03/2018 12:17

I've lost 2 stone 12 lbs since 1st January. I'm following low GI principals, aiming for 1,000 calories a day, don't eat breakfast but eat lunch and dinner which is always prepared from scratch... I also exercise 3-4 times a week.

I tend to eat a wholemeal pitta bread with turkey and coleslaw for lunch... snack is typically a banana / mini soreen bar and then dinner could be anything from tuna steak and steamed vegetables with sweet potato mash to a musclefood protein pizza.

It doesn't work for everyone, but I don't feel hungry and I don't feel like I'm punishing myself... If I want some squares of dark chocolate, I just reduce my dinner accordingly.

I want to lose 4 stone in 4 months and so far, I'm on target to do that.... After that, I'd like to lose another 1-1.5 stone in 3 months and gradually 'retrain' what normal is :)

Annabelle4 · 14/03/2018 12:22

I should have said that I'm only 5ft 3, so have to eat a lot less than I'd like to stay slim 😭

I was 4 stone heavier a few years ago and a typical day then was:

Breakfast:
4 slices of toast
Chocolate biscuits

Lunch:
Large chicken and salad roll
Packet of crisps

Dinner:
Huge portion of lasagne, baby potatoes, garlic bread

Snacking watching tv at night - Pringles, maltesers, Jaffa cakes etc.

Now if I ate like that for even a few days I'd have a gain of 3, 4 or even 5 pounds.

T2517 · 14/03/2018 12:32

I’m doing Whole30 at the moment which is all focused on no added sugar, no processed, no soy, no gluten (am a coeliac anyway) and no grains/beans.

Today I had a 2 eggs mushroom omelette, some mango, chicken and French’s mustard for lunch, for dinner I’ll make a bolognese with no pasta. I also have lots of sparkling water as I crave fizz.

I’m down six lb so far and have another 15 days to go

BlackInk · 14/03/2018 12:59

I'm on the slim side of healthy weight, am quite active and busy but don't exercise as such and tend to eat whatever I fancy. I try to eat as many vegs as possible and am vegetarian. Although I love food and have a sweet tooth, my appetite is effected by stress (and I am often stressed!). A typical non-stressed day's eating might be:

Granola with semi-skimmed milk or plain live yoghurt
Apple or packet of crisps
2 small seeded pittas with half an avacado, some cherry tomatoes and mayo
Standard sized bar of chocolate or a few biscuits
Noodles with stirfried vegs (cabbage, mushrooms, onions, peppers etc.)

or

Latte and a muffin or croissant
Tangerine or handful of salted cashew nuts
2 slices of toast with butter, peanut butter and cucumber
Standard sized bar of chocolate or a few biscuits
Spanish omelette (eggs, potato, vegs) with salad or coleslaw

Probably at least a couple of days a week where I either miss evening meal altogether or just have toast, or where I only graze on toast or biscuits all day then have a proper evening meal.

I drink a few cups of tea a day and also lots of ginger tea. Glass of red wine a few times a week, but rarely drink anything else other than water here and there.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 14/03/2018 13:01

Today

Porridge, with honey and walnuts

Half a packet of chocolate biscuits

A sharer size bag of crisps

A marmite cheese

And it's only 1pm!

This is pretty standard. I'm an average size (10/12)

Secretlifeofme · 14/03/2018 13:39

Trying to lose weight at the moment. I am 5 foot 2 and weigh nearly 10.5 stone :( my current goal is 9.5 stone, although I'd like to get down to 9.

Breakfast : a latte from Starbucks on the way to work. I used to have a vanilla latte. About half the time I also have a banana.

Snack : cucumber and carrot sticks. I used to have crisps.

Lunch : a salad with lean protein like chicken or tuna. I used to have a full meal from our work canteen, something like chicken and rice or pork loin, potatoes and veg

Afternoon snack : vegetable juice (some combination of beetroot, carrot, celery, cucumber). I used to have biscuits or cake. (However, today I did have a small snack marble cake - probably around 100 cals)

Dinner : something veg -heavy with minimal carbs. Last night it was salmon with asparagus and spinach. Tonight I had chicken skewers with an avocado salad. If I do have carbs, I try to limit it to a couple of spoonfuls of rice. (I used to have more carbs and also more meat - heavy meals).

Sometimes after dinner I have half a Satsuma or a small handful of unsalted nuts. I also usually have about 2 coffees during the day with a dash of milk, and drink water throughout the day.

At the weekend I am more relaxed but still try to avoid too many calorific foods. I also don't really drink alcohol - maybe 1 or 2 units a week.

I am trying really hard and my husband reckons I've lost weight in the couple of weeks I've been doing it. I am avoiding weighing myself for a while though - don't want to get obsessed!

Someone asked for portion sizes-
This is my lunch today, 325 calories

To ask what you eat on an average day?
Troika · 14/03/2018 14:03

Today
6 rich tea fingers
2 weetabix
Handful crunchy nut
2 slices of toast with butter and marmite
Piece of chocolate cake
Chocolate finger
Slice of melon
Half a slice of toast
Small bowl of lamb stew
Bag of hula hoops
2 lindor
Satsuma

This is known as the morning sickness diet...

nowwheredidmyunicorngo · 14/03/2018 16:41

Lol @ Troika

chickenowner · 17/03/2018 12:59

SecretLife I'm similar - 5 foot 2 and trying to lose some weight.

I'm also focusing on lots of vegetables and salad with protein and limiting carbs. So today;

Breakfast - porridge with an apple, raisins and cinnamon, cup of coffee

Lunch - large green salad, half an avocado, sweetcorn and a slice of roast beef, grapes

Dinner - lamb chops with aubergine, tomatoes and tenderstem broccoli.

I will also have a few cups of tea and sparkling water. I will try not to snack (so far so good!) but if I really feel the need to I will have a handful of Japanese rice crackers.

I'm really enjoying this way of eating and can see if being a long term change rather than just something to put up with for a short amount of time to lose weight.

Dr273 · 17/07/2018 14:16

I'm using cronometer to log, really helps. Also taking lots of photos of food, because it makes me want to make things that are pretty, and take time to arrange them, so I take care and snack less.

Def agree about limiting carbs chickenowner!

This afternoon I am snacking because I am running an evening workshop so won't have time for dinner, so allowed myself unlimited of these (realistically I will stop when I run out of banana):

N.b. they are quinoa corn cakes, the thin ones, so 19kcal each, and 1tsp cashew butter is ~31kcal so each is 50kcal without the banana, 20 in a pack.
