As children we used to go chirk alot and on the way back we would visit a lake? a pond? a river? a fishery? and have a paddle. I have googled all morning and rung family members and still no luck.

It was like a pool top with very distinctive waterfall in the shape of wide 2 or 3 stairs ending into a little river section?

Does anybody have any clue its driving me potty. Its not swallow falls or any of the more popular falls in northwales. It was more man made looking.....

help?

Where were you going back to? There's a place at Bersham that looks similar to what you describe.

MrsMotherHen · 11/03/2018 09:02

going back to the Wirral (near liverpool)

Somewhere between Chirk and...? Horseshoe falls is a weir not far from there.

GrannyGrissle · 11/03/2018 09:05

Sorry i don't know it's name but i know where you mean. I used to walk past while DH steeredour narrow boat. It is between Chirk Marina and in the Llangollen direction , visible from the canal. Google maps? Or phone Chirk marina and ask? Happy memories.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/03/2018 09:05

Ah, sorry, I was slow typing there (eating Maltesers in bed at the same time).

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:05

There’s a waterfall in Llanberis that only locals really know about as it’s off the beaten track. It has a pool at the bottom but it’s a pretty dangerous place to paddle.
Another is along the coast between Conwy and Bangor called Aber fall, in abergwyngregin. It’s a steady easy walk up from a small carpark.... about a mile on well maintained path. At the end the waterfall is thin but high. You can paddle in sections of the river nearby.

LaBelleSausage · 11/03/2018 09:05

Dyserth Falls?

Notso · 11/03/2018 09:05

So you might have gone through Wrexham then.

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:06

Sorry, I’m thinking too far west as you mentioned Betws.

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:08

Ah, labelle I grew up in dyserth! Wouldn’t want to play in the pool at the bottom (or top) though!

Eddy436 · 11/03/2018 09:09

I lived in that area and kayaked...
Chip shop drop - in the centre of Betws y coed
Pont Cyfyng
Browns falls
Fairy glen
Falls just to the east of the Watkins path on snowdon
Conwy falls

Just ideas....

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:09

How about Loggerheads?

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:10

Is browns falls cobdens bridge eddy

Eddy436 · 11/03/2018 09:12

Ceunant Mawr is the falls in llanberris that GreenOr mentioned...big falls at the end but the track up has lots of little ones with a weir section when the water flows over seceral sleepers/railways...theres a big pool at the end which is lush for swimming in.

Eddy436 · 11/03/2018 09:14

No...cobdens is next to the hotel and jist upstream of a rickery metal bridge. Browns is behind Joe Browns climbing shop or the cafe on the turning to Plas y Brenin/Snowdon at the end of capel curig.

nailingit · 11/03/2018 09:17

Betys coed?

Pattygonia · 11/03/2018 09:20

If it is man made it could be the cup and saucer falls at erddig?

MaidenMotherCrone · 11/03/2018 09:21

Aber Falls and Llanberis are not on the way back to the Wirral from Chirk.

Llangollen, Wrexham and then Chester were on your way home Op (as you know) but I cannot think where it was.

BSintolerant · 11/03/2018 09:22

World's End?

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:24

I know maiden I posted those suggestions before op said where she was going back to.

GreenOr · 11/03/2018 09:25

I didn’t realise you could paddle that section eddy Smile

Mrspotter12 · 11/03/2018 09:26

Ellesmere lake!

Zhx3 · 11/03/2018 09:35

I wonder if it is this place?

Chester Lakes

Witchend · 11/03/2018 09:37

It sounds similar to one I've paddled at in Betwsycoed. Don't know whether that's geographically right though. I suspect there's a few round there.

pieceofpurplesky · 11/03/2018 09:48

Another vote for Llangollen
