I have had an accident, I fell down the stairs and my ankle gave way, it's very swollen and I can't put pressure on it 🙈 I hate hospitals, and would rather avoid. I don't drive so would need a taxi there but I don't think I can get up to get myself ready. Our minor injury unit has no X-ray facilities. Any way I can bring the swelling down enough to try and walk. The swelling is quite bad I think.

God that looks awful! You definitely need x rays

liz70 · 09/03/2018 12:53

Ooh, ouch, that's really ballooned, hasn't it. Poor you, OP! Flowers

liz70 · 09/03/2018 12:55

(I can only see iklboo's pic as well.)

italiancortado · 09/03/2018 12:57

I can see both pics (app on phone)

I am amazed that somebody has said not to go to hospital with that Shock

I hope you have been seen OP

obsessedlex · 09/03/2018 13:06

Youtch that looks horrible! Hope you are on your way - good luck xx

snoooop · 09/03/2018 13:10

My ankle looked like this when I tripped on the stairs and I had done the ligament in my ankle. I had a lovely straight black line from ankle to pinky toe on the side of my foot and a fantastic enormous bruise around my ankle. 6 years later there's still a pad of swelling that will likely never go. I had physio to help strengthen it again.

spiderlight · 09/03/2018 16:33

That looks awful! Hope you've managed to get to hospital now and got it seen to. How are you doing?

dentydown · 09/03/2018 16:53

I did this to my ankle. It wasn’t broken, but I was on crutches for weeks. Needed physiotherapist treatment as well. And I still have to occasionally wear a brace because my ankle is dodgy. Go to a and e!

brewsandbooks · 09/03/2018 20:31

How are you getting on OP?

EnidButton · 09/03/2018 23:18

Holy hell thats some lump! Shock I hope you've been sorted out now and you're not in too much pain. You poor thing. Flowers

SimplySwimming · 09/03/2018 23:57

I disagree with the whole 'go now' mentality, unless it's so bad you're in actual agony constantly

That's right, don't go to hospital unless your entire head is only hanging on by a couple of sinews...Seriously, take your martyr/"hero" mentality elsewhere. You don't get any fucking medals for it. Just a ticking off by docs for being stupid and not seeking treatment sooner

Learn to read and digest entire posts Liz70, not just the bits that suit you so you can spout your self-righteous, professionally offended bollocks.

It's not a fucking martyr mentality...I said I would do RICE first and go to A&E later this afternoon, hopefully when the immediate swelling has subsided.

No Dr is going to tick you off for doing RICE before going to A&E. In most cases (barring bones poking through the skin and other obvious emergencies) it's what THEY recommend.

Don't let the facts stand in the way of your pathetic, bitey little post though 🖕🏼

Hotpinkangel19 · 10/03/2018 09:31

Thanks for your help yesterday, it's ligament damage, but the swelling is so bad they can't rule out a break, so back to the fracture clinic on Monday.

SideOrderofSprouts · 10/03/2018 09:33

I did something similar and had a grade three sprain and ended up with screws in my ankle

spiderlight · 10/03/2018 15:14

Hope it's not broken, although ligament injuries can be just as painful as a break. I hope they've given you some good pain relief.

PushMyButton · 12/03/2018 08:18

Good luck today!

Hotpinkangel19 · 13/03/2018 07:04

Thank you, so the swelling was still pretty bad, but the doctor doesn't think it's fractured but I've damaged/torn ligaments so I'm in a removable cast to enable me to do physio 😩 thank you for your advice!
