To wonder why 98% of MN users are so defensive

I've only made a couple of posts here, asking genuine questions, and on all of them and ones I've read - at least a few MN users would accuse the OP of trolling, or asking if the OP is joking, or just giving snarky responses in general. How is anyone supposed to get advice on here if there are seasoned MN users that are ready on a hair trigger to dismiss posts for trolling, or for asking difficult/different questions?

You just ignore the posters who are breaking the talk guidelines and respond to those who are being helpful.

Threads in AIBU are much more combative than other sections. Generally if you post in a support section then you get support.

RustyPaperclips · 07/03/2018 01:58

I agree with Assassinated. For the love of god do not go near AIBU if you want helpful advice. It's like walking into the lion's den

Try posting in topics that you are interested in, there are some very lovely and knowledgeable posters here

DalekDalekDalek · 07/03/2018 02:03

Can't say that is my experience. As you state, it is a few people not 98%

TanteRose · 07/03/2018 02:03

agree - post in the relevant topic, there are some very knowledgeable and kind people around

Paoty · 07/03/2018 02:03

Thanks for that tip, I will try some of the other sections of the forum. Although, I actually wasn't talking about AIBU specifically, as my bad experiences were in different subs of the talk section. It's sad that a lot of people seem to thrive on being trollhunters

Even in the relationships section, this was the case.

Hmm it can be hit or miss. I posted about a sensitive topic (under a different name) in Relationships and received so much helpful advice. But one poster kept hounding me but MNHQ quickly deleted the posts.

Sometimes posters seem to respond to every thread as if it is AIBU.

Try and stick with it, it can be tough which is really shit, but the good posters make it worthwhile Smile

Hope you are ok

Rusty that is my experience to a tee! Thank You, same for yourself Flowers

RustyPaperclips · 07/03/2018 02:24

Right back at you Tai Thanks

If I ever had an issue with my child, or husband, the last place I would come for advice was here. On the other hand, should I want a bitch about a friend, hairdresser ex...

theftbyfinding · 07/03/2018 02:37

In which case, I could go to any other site on line basically. The Left has eaten itself. Mumsnet is a parody of what it was.

RustyPaperclips · 07/03/2018 02:53

I honestly don't mean to sound rude, but why are you still on MN if you dislike it so much? What do you mean by 'The Left has eaten itself'? I'm always so many steps behind this place as I only have a browse every now and then Smile

HuskyMcClusky · 07/03/2018 02:55

I fucking well am not. Pull your head in, who the hell do you think you are??

(Wink)

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2018 02:55

Maybe it was the snowy spell? The Left were trapped somewhere very inaccessible and were very hungry?

Paoty · 07/03/2018 02:56

@thecatfromjapan amazing

theftbyfinding · 07/03/2018 03:00

RustyPaperclips you don't sound rude at all. I did not say I dislike it here though, I said it's the last place I'd come to for advice. A bitch maybe. The left has become so all-encompassing with their doctrines that they've fucked a once successful site such as Mumsnet. Check the comments stats from five years ago and weep. Everyone who was silenced for being Tory or some such other insult has rightly buggered off. This is an Echo Chamber Extraordinaire. And they are dull a fuck.

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2018 03:03

I think you're new, theft. MN has long been berated as a nest of progressive vipers.

RustyPaperclips · 07/03/2018 03:11

Husky Grin

As much as I love snow I do suspect that it has driven a lot of us stir crazy!

JanDough · 07/03/2018 03:25

AIBU is like Jeremy Kyle. Worryingly addictive whilst I have a coffee in the mornings but I'd be mortified if my life meant I came here for advice.

I think people are defensive because others are so agressive. It's all a bit Fight Clubesque.

Other parts of MN are much more helpful but much slower.

theftbyfinding · 07/03/2018 03:26

Been here under different names for over a decade thecatfromjapan I know what the ethos was, never did fit in. Laughing at how it's crumbling frankly.

thebewilderness · 07/03/2018 03:29

There has been a significant troll invasion since MN was mentioned in the news a couple times. I think that is why the women here are so defensive.

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2018 03:30

Theft Then you must know it's always been pretty Lefty. I'm not sure that's why it's crumbling, or even if it is crumbling. I would say it's changing, partly because it's more popular, so people drop in and out.

Not sure it's fair to blame it on Leftiness, per se.

And I think it would have to be a lot smaller to see us all eating each other. Smile

liminality · 07/03/2018 03:44

hahahahaha mumsnet is neither left nor progressive, gotta be joking right? I stay inspite of that because I like to see how so many people think, but left it is not!
People on here are generally super conservative in nearly all their decisions from what I see, except they err on the side of supporting women to seize control of their lives for the most part. Which is fairly progressive.

liminality · 07/03/2018 03:45

oops wanted some italics and got some bold...

thecatfromjapan · 07/03/2018 03:51

The last time some stats were published, there was a slight tendency to the Left.

I have to say, I tend to think that inspiring revolution in the breasts of women - and supporting each other to take control of our lives is a pretty fundamental part of that - is pretty progressive.
