To assume schools will probably be closed tomorrow, too?

DS1's school closed just as he was about to leave. Ds2 and 3's school opened as usual then sent everyone home at 1pm.

We've got at least 3 inches here. No reason to expect anything to melt and possibly more on the way.

The kids are all excited and not expecting school tomorrow. I'm not sure if I can convince them to go to bed at school night time.

DH was annoyed with the primary school even opening this morning. He thinks we should assume they're closed and not even take them in the morning. Especially as he had to go get them early today!

I'm undecided.

Monday.

dementedpixie · 28/02/2018 17:15

We've already been told ours are shut tomorrow

Womblewobble · 28/02/2018 17:17

All ours are open again tomorrow despite all being shut today.

JustGettingStarted · 28/02/2018 17:17

We ain't been told shit! I expect them to decide in the morning.

He thinks we should assume they're closed and not even take them in the morning.

Surely you can just check in the morning before taking them to school?

Soubriquet · 28/02/2018 17:18

We are closed today. We are to assume we are open tomorrow unless told otherwise

Snow is deep here. Comes up to mid calf on my 2 and 4 year old. So we shall see

dementedpixie · 28/02/2018 17:19

We're near the red alert area and it's still snowing (Scotland)

SquirmOfEels · 28/02/2018 17:20

My (London) DC are rather disgusted that there is insufficent snow for closures. As there is still snow in the forecast, parents were warned that if they have to close, there will be a notice on the school website by 07:00 tomorrow.

BBC weather doesn't really show snow for us, but just about everyone else has. 50-60% chance of quite a bit

Sassychiccy · 28/02/2018 17:20

For some bizarre reason the schools aren’t shut here and we are one of the worst affected areas! It’s a nightmare on the roads so I doubt attendance was very high today.

Glitteryballoons · 28/02/2018 17:21

We are in the far south east of Kent and got nothing here. Zilch, zero,
30 miles up its chaos!
Schools open as normal desperate for a snow day.

PlanNumber · 28/02/2018 17:23

I think there's a good possibility we will open.

We closed this morning mainly due to the state of the roads as staff couldn't get in/were very delayed.

Main roads are practically here clear now and no further snow forecast overnight, although we still have about 4 inches away from the busy areas.

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/02/2018 17:23

We've been told we're off tomorrow too. ❄️

If they closed this afternoon then they are likely to be closed tomorrow, but check their website in the morning, before washing the dcs if you can.

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 28/02/2018 17:24

I'm right in the middle of the red area and I heard at lunchtime our schools are off tomorrow. I really doubt they'll be open on Friday because the snow hasn't stopped all day and is forecast to continue all night.

RabbityMcRabbit · 28/02/2018 17:24

I think you have to assume school is opdn unless you're told otherwise in the morning. A lot of heads (especially in academies) make the decision very reluctantly

LegallyBrunet · 28/02/2018 17:25

Some schools here (North East England) that were closed today have already announced closures for tomorrow. Others have said they'll reassess the situation and make an announcement by 7am

Atthebottomofthesea · 28/02/2018 17:25

Both closed today, still no news on tomorrow. Road up to the one school is like an ice rink at the moment.

whyismykid · 28/02/2018 17:25

In the red alert area here and definitely closed tomorrow if that helps

TheNecroscope · 28/02/2018 17:31

I'm debating what to do tomorrow too. We don't have snow here at all yet but heavy snow is forecast all day tomorrow starting at 9am. I'm sure the schools will close throughout the day but I won't be able to get my kids early and we live on a steep hill on a single track lane so they may not be able to get here later on.

JustGettingStarted · 28/02/2018 17:32

I'd love to have been given a deadline for the morning!

DS1 literally boarded the school bus, which got about 50 metres down the road, when kids started getting texts about the school closing. He was out of phone credit (since rectified) and if he'd got to shool or further without any way of letting us know it would have been bad.

We parents got texts just after 8am.

Ours are closed again tomorrow, I'm in the north east

JustGettingStarted · 28/02/2018 17:35

I think my husband is loath to walk them there in the snow and then possibly have to go get them early. I thinking he just wants to declare it a snow day.

Our kids have good attendance. I wouldn't care if they took tomorrow off.

OP posts:
PrimalLass · 28/02/2018 17:36

Ours are shut. 15cm of snow, transport chaos, and more to come.

PrimalLass · 28/02/2018 17:38

Central Scotland is just a mess.

Delphinius · 28/02/2018 17:38

We've got 1m+ high drifts blocking our track and the unclassified road leading into town. Even if school opens we'll probably no make it.

PrimalLass · 28/02/2018 17:38

I would just decide now and keep them off.
