People spelling your name wrong on emails or fb posts next to the correct spelling

How do people manage to do this when your name is part of the email address or they write a comment under your fb comments which has your name next to it? It's so infuriating and lazy
A family member who I have known for over 20 years regularly spells my name wrong In birthday cards etc but I find most annoying when she is replying to an email so her answer is under my name and she still doesn't get it right. Or on a fb post where my name is all over the comments section.
My name can be spelt with an e, or without. For example (not my real name)
Helen or helene. My name has the e, and she always spells it without. I wouldn't mind but her name is similar, so ends in an e, like leanne, so I could spell it leann.

Oh this annoys me too! It's very lazy and a bit rude I think.

MrsPussinBoots · 16/02/2018 08:33

YANBU. I have the same problem and it drives me crazy. I contact a lot of call centres for work and always spell out my email address phonetically.
Eg. [email protected] ... dear mussy. Not even close?!

italiancortado · 16/02/2018 08:33

This drives me insane. It's not difficult to look and copy.

My friend of 15 years was doing a party invitation plan and showed me the list. She had MY name down incorrectly (think Vicki not Vicky)

I was really bothered by it. I mean, it doesn't take much to spell a name

Ginorchoc · 16/02/2018 08:33

I get this all the time! Does wind me up especially as I’m so careful and ensure I check spellings.

Trills · 16/02/2018 08:35

They obviously don't think it's important to distinguish between Clair and Claire.

ReverseGiraffe · 16/02/2018 08:35

I have a colleague who has worked here for around 2 months. She calls almost everyone by the wrong name (e.g. if my name was Anna she'd call me Hannah). I've taken to ignoring her until she gets my name right. I just think it's so rude.

LightDrizzle · 16/02/2018 08:37

This happens to me but it doesn’t bother me. My name has a number of possible spellings, yes, I do wonder why they haven’t noticed the correct one when it’s on the very page they are looking at, but it’s not a personal slight is it?

juneybean · 16/02/2018 08:37

What I hate is that my work email will come from Jennifer and I will sign off as Jen which I prefer but they then reply back saying "hi Jenny" no!!! Hate it so much.

HarryStylesismycrack · 16/02/2018 08:40

It drives me insane, I’ll sign off an email with my name ending in an A, from my email address with my name ending in an A. And I’ll get a response saying hi, similar name BUT NOT MY NAME ending in an E. Think Clare instead of Clara. A totally different name. I often wonder do they look at it and think ‘well she obviously doesn’t know how to spell her own name so I’ll correct it for her’.

MsJuniper · 16/02/2018 08:40

This happens to DH all the time and drives him mad. His 5-letter, uncomplicated name has a usual spelling and then an incorrect alternative which unfortunately has become more popular in recent years. He gets all sorts of variations though which don't even make sense. It's like people see a name which is not bog standard Harry/George and just give up any effort to spell it correctly.

Flightywoman · 16/02/2018 08:40

I've had this happen. He was calling me Hannah instead of Anna* so I started him Hernie. He got the right name soon enough.

*names changed to protect the innocent!

mintich · 16/02/2018 08:42

Yep I get this all the time. Christmas cards from friends I've had for years with the name spelt wrong. My team at work sending me emails with it wrong. I mean at least spell your bosses name correctly!!

Bunbunbunny · 16/02/2018 08:43

Yep I get this as my name has a hyphen (thanks parents) propel chop it in half and I hate it or spell either part wrong

Bunbunbunny · 16/02/2018 08:43

Oh the irony I spent I spelt people wrong Grin

Jasmin82 · 16/02/2018 08:44

My name has a few different spellings. In almost 36 years, only myself, my parents and a couple of friends have used the "correct" spelling. I gave up a long time ago correcting people and, when asked, unless it's for official purposes, I just say for people to spell how they want.

Bunbunbunny · 16/02/2018 08:44

I give up argh Blush I spelt people wrong!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 16/02/2018 08:44

Same here.

... Blah blah blah
Kind regards
Joanne

Oh god yes - drives me insane!!!
I spell my name with an ie at the end. It’s seriously not difficult.
Colleagues who I’ve worked with for over 3 years still spell it wrong, and the chair of a committee I’m on always gets it wrong too.

YTho · 16/02/2018 08:45

Yes this is so weird, especially when the correct name is right there, visible for everyone to see?! My DH gets this a lot, with his name and surname as well. He's got just a regular name that has an equally common variation (think John/Jon, Neil/Neal...) Doesn't seem to bother him too much but I just think it's odd that you can see the correct spelling and yet choose to spell it wrong.

HemlockStarglimmer · 16/02/2018 08:45

Same here. My name can be spelled more than one way. Several famous women spell it my way but people still fail to see it. Or they just don't care. Angry

BoredOnMatLeave · 16/02/2018 08:47

I get this a lot at work. Its not even close. Think them calling me Amelia when my name is Alana. I'm not sure if they just read what they want to see

haba · 16/02/2018 08:47

People don't care , I'm afraid. Sad
Or they like to play fast and lose with spelling Wink

mommybear1 · 16/02/2018 08:48

It's laziness pure and simple my entire family (save immediate ones) mis spell and mis pronounce my name I had hoped post wedding when all paperwork had my name in bold and caps may sort the issue but no nearly 40 years of this shit. What's worse is I have corrected and continue to do so to no avail Hmm

MammaAgata · 16/02/2018 08:48

I hate this too.. I had a colleague constantly spelling my name wrong even though I actually told him, think Vikki instead of Vicky. In the end I kept emailing him Andi instead of Andy. He got the message..

toriatoriatoria · 16/02/2018 08:52

This drives me mad! My name has a common shortening that I don't like, don't use and don't respond to, but still people automatically address me as.
