Our oven is broken, and I love roasts! Im so sick of cooking pasta / currys / stir fry every night. Meal ideas which don't involve an oven, please?

Savoury pork rice (also known on the Good Food website as mexican supper pot, but I add cumin and chilli flakes)

An old fashioned brown chicken casserole with lots of veg in it and mash
Meatballs (either IKEA or other)

I have cooked my way trhough most of Nigells express, and those I've posted from her are fast , work, good on flavour and can be played with to suit you.

Aridane · 15/02/2018 13:04

Oh - so sorry - I thought you said meat ideas which don't require an oven, not meal ideas. I thought posters were being a bit obtuse in not actually giving meat ideas!! Blush

EdithWeston · 15/02/2018 13:04

Get a barbecue, if you have any outdoor space at all.

You can adapt all sorts of recipes for cooking over a fire - including the roasts you are currently craving.

EfficiencyDeficiency · 15/02/2018 13:05

Our oven broke about a month ago and we need to replace it but are currently using a halogen oven.

Dp bought if for my birthday last year and I nearly threw it at himGrin glad i didn't now!

It's brilliant and literally halves the cooking time too.

scaryteacher · 15/02/2018 13:06

This is great if you have time www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/rib_rag_28935 I serve it with rice, bread or pasta; ds likes it with spuds.

reallybadidea · 15/02/2018 13:07

A bit OT, but do you know what is wrong with your oven? Ours stopped heating up so we gambled £30 on buying a new element, which was an utter piece of piss to fit ourselves. Job done!

SundaysFunday · 15/02/2018 13:07

I follow a group on Facebook that share recipes for slow cookers.

People have done whole chickens, lasagna, baked potatoes, pulled pork and even cakes and sponge puddings...all things I would have thought you need an oven for.

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 15/02/2018 16:16

Yeah brisket in pressure cooker can add veg after they cook really quickly too
