To go to the cinema alone?

EyUpLove · 15/02/2018 11:59

I have a monthly unlimited pass so I can go to the cinema whenever I want.

We are fairly tight with money so not many other days out so this means I can go out and see friends without worrying about money.

There's a few films coming up that I want to see (and I like to make the most of my membership!) but no-one else does so would I be a total loser to go on my own? 😂

Go! I love going by myself, it's so much simpler than trying to coordinate times and tastes.

No.

Why does anyone think it's weird for someone to go to the cinema alone? You're sat in the dark more or less in silence.

PuppyMonkey · 15/02/2018 12:03

Sounds lovely.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 15/02/2018 12:07

Blissful!!

I had an unlimited card for a while... I ended up joining a meet up with other unlimited folk so we ended up going as a group... Most were real film addicts so we'd meet after and chat about the film!

ShutUpBaz · 15/02/2018 12:08

One of my favourite things to do. No phone signal, noone asking questions, noone nicking my popcorn......

There was a similar thread like this last week. I think everyone, myself included, told that OP to go alone as it’s fine. Do it and enjoy Smile

Yawnyprawn · 15/02/2018 12:11

Do it! It's lovely and relaxing going by yourself and nobody honestly bats an eyelid.

Idontevencareanymore · 15/02/2018 12:12

My favourite thing to do! Goooooo!

buckingfrolicks · 15/02/2018 12:16

Heaven. see what you want

vampirethriller · 15/02/2018 12:18

I do it!

Paddington68 · 15/02/2018 12:19

I have an unlimited membership, Everyman, and can take a friend if I wish. I go by myself about once a week. Have, on occasions, been the only person in the cinema, Love it.

Aridane · 15/02/2018 12:22

On these threads everyone here will tell you, yes, how amazing it is and yes they do it. For my own part, I would go during the week or for an afternoon showing - but not for a Saturday evening. That's just me though

NotUmbongoUnchained · 15/02/2018 12:24

I’ve been wondering this too!
I want to go and watch black panther but DH won’t go because of his epilepsy and my brother is a loser. And none of my other friends are as geeky as me so I guess I’ll have to go alone

GreyCloudsToday · 15/02/2018 12:25

Of course not! Midweek matinees alone - that's one of life's greatest pleasures.

EyUpLove · 15/02/2018 12:59

It's mainly because I have anxiety.

Is it really sad / creepy to see 50 shades alone though? 😂

spidey66 · 15/02/2018 13:00

I love going to the pictures on my own.

MTBMummy · 15/02/2018 13:01

Go, enjoy it - I love going to a cinema on my own

SandyY2K · 15/02/2018 13:04

Of course you're not a loser. I'll be going to see a movie by myself tomorow night.

Strongvegetables · 15/02/2018 13:07

Go I do it of a film comes out I really want to watch in peace!

I’m currently sat in Nando’s having lunch by myself - kidsfree- bliss!!

ExileinGuyville · 15/02/2018 13:11

If it's anything like my local Cineworld, the audience during the day and early evening generally consists of more people sitting on their own than people in couples or groups.

PoppyFleur · 15/02/2018 13:19

I go on my own quite often, it's bliss!

runawaywithme07 · 15/02/2018 13:48

I've been to the cinema alone once. I also have anxiety and I'm not going to lie, I did feel a little self-conscious and awkward. There was literally no-one else in the foyer or the screening, so I was a little more conspicuous than I would have liked!

But basically it was fine and I would go alone again (it's just I'm not much of a movie fan and there's rarely anything I want to watch). And if I had an unlimited pass like you, I would absolutely be getting my money's worth and going alone whenever I felt like it.

Frazzled2207 · 15/02/2018 14:03

Go.
I used to live in Poland where it is very much ok to go alone, loads do it. I wouldn't go at a weekend in the UK because so many happy families etc but would during the week no problem.

EyUpLove · 16/02/2018 15:12

I'm doing it! I'm going on my own this afternoon! I feel very self conscious. 😬

Done it loads of times. A coffee, a sandwich and a film mostly to myself. I’ve got a new job now which means I can’t go during the day now and that’s the one thing I’m most disappointed about.
