To go to the cinema alone?

EyUpLove · 15/02/2018 11:59

I have a monthly unlimited pass so I can go to the cinema whenever I want.

We are fairly tight with money so not many other days out so this means I can go out and see friends without worrying about money.

There's a few films coming up that I want to see (and I like to make the most of my membership!) but no-one else does so would I be a total loser to go on my own? 😂

About 15 years ago I mentioned that I was considering going to the cinema on my own - my ex said it was really weird and the cinema was a social thing, so it put me off the idea a bit.

Last year I went on my own for the first time - and it was great! I have been several times since and love it, no arguments over what to see, no needs to hang around waiting for people to buy snacks and go to the loo, if you go early on you practically have the place to yourself - what's not to like?

Megameanmummy · 16/02/2018 16:00

Hope you’re having a super time Smile. For me it’s pure luxury to go alone..

EyUpLove · 16/02/2018 19:14

It was great. But I felt quite conspicuous! Lots of other people there for a Friday afternoon! Lol.
Loads of adverts for films coming out that I want to see though so hopefully it gets easier! Haha.

I'm going to do it again tomorrow! Haha.
Loving this feeling of freedom but also kind of a little bit feel like I'm losing half my day off! 🙈

Also have an unlimited card and go alone often. Normally other people alone too :-)

NoMoreMissusNiceGuy · 20/02/2018 22:45

I discovered the joy of lone cinema-going recently because no-one would go to see The Greatest Showman with me! Grin

I already have a ticket booked (just for me) for Friday evening when I am gong to the Sing a Long showing!

riceuten · 20/02/2018 22:47

Done it loads - enjoy ! Added bonus that, if you end up sat next to a moron texting or calling, you can (providing there are seats) move

KC225 · 20/02/2018 22:49

Love, love, love going on my own. I can see what I want, and I don't have to explain my snack choices, nor share them. Best thing ever is going in the afternoon and coming out when everyone in hurry home from work. It feels so bloody decadent.

Hands up I would say I have been to every cinema in the West End (London) in my own at some point.

TheGlitterFairy · 20/02/2018 22:51

Def ok to go on your own! Smile

Pokemonlovepower · 20/02/2018 22:51

Love.going on my own!!

wheresmyphone · 20/02/2018 23:00

Did it tonight 🍾

MrsEricBana · 20/02/2018 23:06

All good apart from when I went to see Room on my own and ended up blubbing (loudly).

Smokeahontas · 20/02/2018 23:08

I felt a bit conscious for the first ten mins the first time I went alone. Then realised you don’t talk to anyone during a film anyway & if I go alone, I don’t have to share my snacks Grin

Dancetothebeat32 · 20/02/2018 23:14

I've just booked my ticket for tomorrow afternoon to go on my own, I've been doing it for years, I love my own company, I love gettin my treats to take in that I don't have to share with anybody and I always sit in the same seat

FluffyWuffy100 · 20/02/2018 23:19

Yeah, don’t go.

A massive “L for Looser” neon sign will appear over your head in the middle of the film and everyone will point and laugh and the lonely looser Billy no mates.

Purplevicki · 20/02/2018 23:26

It’s the best thing in the world. Do it!

Thistlebelle · 20/02/2018 23:29

Going to the cinema alone is awesome.

If you go during the day you’ll start see quite a few people alone. It’s pretty common.

coconutlimesmoosh · 20/02/2018 23:31

why do people keep asking this question as if it is somehow an ususual thing for people to do, rather than a completely normal solo activity?
Up next, aibu to get a bus alone?

Reddlion · 21/02/2018 01:25

nothing wrong with this

Thistlebelle · 21/02/2018 01:39

coconut because it’s not normal for everyone. They are just looking for a bit of reassurance

I had no idea before coming on MN the numbers of people who find all sorts of things that wouldn’t bother me in the least deeply embarrassing.

Half of MN finds just saying “no” terribly difficult.

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/02/2018 01:44

OMG, no, just DOOOOO it!! Why would you be a loser?! Seriously, no-one will care or indeed notice!
Even if they did notice,so what?!
I've been to the cinema loads of times by myself and still love to now even though I don't get the chance as much anymore.
I know someone who won't go to the cinema by herself though as she thinks she'll look sad and I just don''t get it!
You miss out on something you want to watch, just because you have no-one to hold your hand throughout. You're a grown up! (Presumably) Go!
plus you get all the popcorn to yourself and no annoying twat sat next to you wittering in your earhole all the way through it Grin

DreamyMcDreamy · 21/02/2018 01:48

I'm doing it! I'm going on my own this afternoon! I feel very self conscious.

Yay! Did you go? Was the film any good? What did you see?Hope you had fun Smile

ladybird69 · 21/02/2018 01:53

YANBU I only ever go to the cinema on my own nowadays after a friend talked all the way through a film that I was dying to see!
