I work in an office, mainly with women, mostly 10 to 15 years younger than me (I'm 46). They have given each other cutesy nicknames and hug each other every time one of them comes into the office. They speak to each other in ickle baby voices and keep reminding each other how wonderful and special they are. They tried to include me in it on one occasion but my face said 'fuck off' as clearly as any spoken word could have been. Am I being curmudgeonly? Or is this fucking ridiculous, infantalising bullshit? It's making me feel rather queasy Angry

I'm 10-15 years younger than you and would find that borderline intolerable.

Tapandgo · 13/02/2018 19:48

Yuk

demirose87 · 13/02/2018 19:49

Reminds me of when I worked in a nursery and a group of younger girls took to call a 50 year old woman " mum" in stupid baby voices. They got her a mothers day card and asked me to buy one too and I told them no because I already have a mother thanks.

ScreamingValenta · 13/02/2018 19:49

This would drive me mad, especially the baby voices! YANBU.

Theshittyendofthestick · 13/02/2018 19:54

Good to know that I'm not alone in thinking this is ridiculous. I used to work with a lovely bunch of women who were professional and capable and able to have good conversations. I miss them Sad. This bunch is driving me mental!

bobstersmum · 13/02/2018 19:54

Idiots! I bet they all love unicorns too don't they...

Theshittyendofthestick · 13/02/2018 19:56

Fucking yes bobster! Unicorns all over their desks!

OP posts:
OutyMcOutface · 13/02/2018 19:56

That's very strange. Are many of them mothers by any chance? They may be so sleep deprived that they have forgotten how to use their grown up voice.

Namechangetempissue · 13/02/2018 19:58

How twee and puke inducing. I'm their age and would detest that. Doesn't scream professionalism does it?

ScreamingValenta · 13/02/2018 19:59

Unicorns all over their desks!

It's a lost cause. You need to change jobs!

RagamuffinCat · 13/02/2018 19:59

That would drive me insane and I'm 14 years younger than you.

crackerjacket · 13/02/2018 20:01

Fuck dat shit

MayhemandMadness01 · 13/02/2018 20:02

Next time they do it, grab their tongues and staple it to the desk, that'll teach them Grin

crackerjacket · 13/02/2018 20:03

Not being funny but I'm 36 i.e. ten years younger and there is no way i'd talk in a baby voice, other than to take the piss

Theshittyendofthestick · 13/02/2018 20:03

Only one with kids outy and she's actually great, but sadly only works part time.

Namechange - completely unprofessional! I sometimes see clients at my desk in the office and it looks like I'm sitting next a pink, sparkly version of Santa's fucking grotto. With unicorns. I can see them shifting uncomfortably in their seats, trying not to look at the glittery shit.

OP posts:
Cherrycokewinning · 13/02/2018 20:04

They’re 30-35?! I thought you were going to say 19

Passmethecakeplease · 13/02/2018 20:05

I'm in the age range you've mentioned and this would get right on my tits.

They're at work, not popping over to their friend's for a girlie sleepover ffs.

MrsZippyLake · 13/02/2018 20:06

Oh jeez, I'm (a bit) younger than you and that makes me want to puke. Where is their professionalism? What kind of jobs are they doing? By 30-35 years old, they are more than old enough to know better.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 13/02/2018 20:06

Please can we have examples of the cutesy nicknames they've given each other? Or the name they tried to give you?
For entertainment purposes.

Anymajordude · 13/02/2018 20:08

That's proper grim. How do they expect to be taken seriously? My work is bad enough with shitty motivational memes stuck everywhere.

Moussemoose · 13/02/2018 20:09

I feel your pain.

No I don't want to hug you. Fuck off. I work with you I don't like you.

Theshittyendofthestick · 13/02/2018 20:10

Too outing to put the actual nicknames Ilost but based on actual names so think Susan becoming Suzy-woozy-floozy.

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 13/02/2018 20:12

Suzy-woozy-floozy.

Envy Boak. Perhaps vomiting over their unicorn-festooned desks might get the message across.

MistyMinge · 13/02/2018 20:12

I'm around 10-15 years younger and I'd absolutely hate this. It's moronic.

I'd be looking for a new job.

mumonashoestring · 13/02/2018 20:13

Christ, I work in a fairly easy going office but someone would have been along making pointed comments about professionalism by now... I don't suppose you're a 360/client feedback kind of place?
