Are you joking?

blackteasplease · 12/02/2018 19:30

That's exactly how it should be pronounced.

I think the name is Italian in original. In Italian "ce " is pronounced how we would pronounce ch .

Ch in Italian has a hard K sound.

JennyOnAPlate · 12/02/2018 19:30

That is the correct pronunciation Confused

WitchesHatRim · 12/02/2018 19:31

It's you that's pronouncing it wrong!

Knittedfairies · 12/02/2018 19:31

Cello is pronounced chello though.

ShrinkWrap · 12/02/2018 19:32

As in cello

onalongsabbatical · 12/02/2018 19:32

Italian derivation. If the C is followed by an I or an E it is” soft” and pronounced like a CH.
HTH.

MongerTruffle · 12/02/2018 19:33

You're the one pronouncing it wrong.

blackteasplease · 12/02/2018 19:33

And Limoncello Grin

HellToupee · 12/02/2018 19:33

If the correct pronunciation of a name gets you irate, you need to get out more.

Take a Biscuit with you for a snack.

EmpireVille · 12/02/2018 19:34

I have known two Marcellas, neither pronounced their names with a "ch", just Mar-seller.

MsJudgemental · 12/02/2018 19:35

It’s ITALIAN. C before i or e has a british ‘ch’ sound.

MongerTruffle · 12/02/2018 19:35

They're using the anglicised incorrect pronunciation.

HarveyKietelRabbit · 12/02/2018 19:37

Oh dear.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 19:37

My aunt is Marcella. I had never heard the “CH” pronunciation until I saw the ad in TV. It makes perfect sense though. I can’t call my aunt marchella though Grin

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 12/02/2018 19:38

Awkward 😕

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 19:38

—but there’s definitely no r at the end—

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 19:39

Oh FGS! How do you do strike through?

OutyMcOutface · 12/02/2018 19:41

Well this is ironic.

HolyMountain · 12/02/2018 19:42

It was a bit of a shit series and I sat through every episode.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/02/2018 19:55

Donny.
My strike through no longer works either.
Just going to try it again —waffle waffle—

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 19:58

Have we lost the strike through function then?

Trumpton · 12/02/2018 20:01

Ah strike throughs now have be be done thus :-
thus
Actually mine did it as usual but I read on another thread that you have Togo into settings and disable auto punctuation or it turns -- into one long dash and makes it not work !

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 12/02/2018 20:02

:-strikethrough-:

floriad · 12/02/2018 20:03

...?

That's how I pronounce my aunt's name. My Italian aunt's.

there's no s/c if the c is before an e...
