Sudafed73 · 12/02/2018 20:05

Irish way is Mar-sella, it gets on my nerves too OP

PeppermintPasty · 12/02/2018 20:06

What is, or who is, Marcella?

< misses point>

LucyMorningStar · 12/02/2018 20:08

Peppermint, it's some bollocks drama on telly

Bluntness100 · 12/02/2018 20:09

Marcella is the Italian pronounciation. It's correct. I know a British woman who has this spelling and pronunciation.

However your pronunciation is Eastern European. My colleague is from Czech and she pronounces as you do. It seems Irish too.

PeppermintPasty · 12/02/2018 20:10

Oh thanks Lucy. I had a mild fantasy it might be some new yummy ice cream. Never mind.

toffee1000 · 12/02/2018 20:15

It’s less than an hour since OP posted but I don’t know if she’ll be coming back. She probably expected others to agree but became embarrassed when she saw that everyone else was saying that she was wrong. Admitting that they’re wrong is difficult for some people.

bobstersmum · 12/02/2018 20:15

Sorry but I was friends with a Marcella at school and she was definitely Marchella. What's your problem?

blackteasplease · 12/02/2018 20:24

Mar-sella is game of thrones pronunciation, isn't it?

But I think it's spelt differently. Annoyed me in GoT that it was pronounced s until I saw it was spelt differently (possibly with an s!)

Snowysky20009 · 12/02/2018 20:29

Sorry but you are wrong! There is a ch in there!!!

CheeseyToast · 12/02/2018 20:31

I have known two Marcellas, neither pronounced their names with a "ch", just Mar-seller.
They're using the anglicised incorrect pronunciation.

The Marcella I knew from Chile pronounced her name Mar-sella.

Sudafed73 · 12/02/2018 20:32

All these people saying the OP is 'wrong'...I think it's pretty safe to say, there's obviously more than one pronunciation

DeltaG · 12/02/2018 20:34

Lolz, this is kinda like when you say MoëT & Chandon and someone 'corrects' you declaring it's pronounced 'Mo-ay'

Marcella in Italian: pronounced Marchella.

Marcela in Spanish: pronounced Marthela (in Northern and Central Peninsular Spanish) or Marsela (in some Andalusian dialects and in Canary Islands and American Spanish).

Marcela in (Portugal and Brazilian) Portuguese: pronounced Marsela.

Ooo is that Anna Friel series, is there another one? Excellent misses point of thread

Valpolicella.

MongerTruffle · 12/02/2018 21:07

Oh FGS! How do you do strike through?

iOS joins two hyphens into a dash, so you have to put a space in between the two hyphens, and then erase it.
