To not understand what these magical hobbies are that I should have?

So I name changed for this one. I started a thread last week about how lonely I was. (I have literally no friends and am desperately lonely when I’m not at work) I got some helpful advice but I got a lot of general answers about staring new hobbies and clubs. The thing is I literally have no idea what sort of things people are talking about, I already go to the gym so apart from that what do you all do?

I am in a choir. I love it. I joined it about 5 years ago, and have made some lovely friends. It's a very informal choir, based at my local theatre - no auditions, no need to read music. We sing show tunes and perform in the theatre every term. It's nice because lots of us stay for a chat and a drink afterwards, so it's a social thing as well as a hobby.

I had to see a physiotherapist this week for an injury. She asked me if it was interfering with my hobbies. I said I was a full-time working single mum, what were these hobby things of which she speaks.

Whereabouts do you live Strawberries ? If you're anywhere near me I'll gladly meet up with you to not do any hobbies.

MiddleClassProblem · 11/02/2018 17:40

Does picking at ingrown hairs count?

TheSconeOfStone · 11/02/2018 17:42

I sing in a chorus. Reading music isn’t necessary but learning the songs and being able to carry a tune is. I know lots of people who sing and there is a group to suit anybody who wants to. I have done a couple of water sports pre DC and made friends through that. Made friends through a dance class as well. Any hobby you meet other people will give you opportunities to connect with others.

Biggreygoose · 11/02/2018 17:44

I shoot clays.

student26 · 11/02/2018 17:44

I sew and knit and like making things. We have a local craft club and meet up here. Anything like that where you are? If you like making things that is!

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 11/02/2018 17:48

Any kind of organised group activity. Yoga, adult ballet/tap dancing classes, netball, morris-dancing (I've always wanted to try this), karate, judo, or any other local martial arts club? Evening classes at the local college? Creative writing, learning to speak Italian?

FartyMcLetFly · 11/02/2018 17:48

Run (on my own and park run), fell walking, cycling, gym, fitness classes at local sports centre........

emmaluvseeyore · 11/02/2018 17:49

I do an adult tap dancing class, sing in a choir and volunteer with Girlguiding. Apart from my closest friend that I met at school and friends from work, all my other friends are from my hobbies. I also meet up with my DP's work colleagues every now and then to have dinner, play board games/do murder mysteries. I don't have DC yet, so have more spare time than most, but I do spend most of my weekday evenings out of the house. Sometimes I do resent being so busy, but it's fantastic for my mental health.

HundredMilesAnHour · 11/02/2018 17:49

I volunteer in a wildlife hospital. It's amazing, I love it!

chickenowner · 11/02/2018 17:51

I go to weekly yoga classes, a monthly knitting group and a monthly lunch club.

I also have hobbies that I do on my own or with my DP - walking, baking, cinema, etc.

MammaAgata · 11/02/2018 17:56

I horse ride. Whilst I’ve had my own horses I don’t at the moment (lost my mare due to old age illness last March) I still ride and belong to a ‘community’ outside of the home. I share a horse at the weekends and it gets me riding, actively involved with a ‘hobby’ although after 30 years ownership I don’t own my own horse. Also I find dog walking a hobby of sorts, met loads of new friends just bumbling out for a walk.

Personwithhorse · 11/02/2018 17:56

Netball, swimming, yoga, Pilates, tennis, running club, gardening club, football, darts, karate, judo, walking club, womens institute, learn to ride a horse, volunteering for a wildlife trust or other charity work ........

meredintofpandiculation · 11/02/2018 17:56

Conservation volunteering (clearing overgrown vegetation, plant and animal surveys, dry stone walling, fencing), birdwatching (BTO garden birdwatch is a fun way to start), fell walking, caving, gardening (vegetable or ornamental), learning a language, local history, learning to play an insrument

haba · 11/02/2018 17:57

My DS asked me today what my hobbies were, and I said reading- I do love reading, and it's the only thing that fits around working FT and doing everything at home. He said reading didn't count Confused even though he reads loads and loves it.

educatingarti · 11/02/2018 17:57

Archaeology

myusernamewastaken · 11/02/2018 17:59

Im in a pub quiz team...i love it...

SpoonfulOfJam · 11/02/2018 18:00

I go to gym classes and look at my Fitbit.

I've also bought some new books off Amazon. I was boring myself at work with my gym talk, so starting to talk about books as well.

ladyface69 · 11/02/2018 18:08

Archery? If you have a dog, dog training classes? Group walking/hiking?
Going to a painting class? Learning a new language?
I have recently started archery, I love it. Glad I decided to take it up (on a whim), no-one else I know does it and it's my own little project. Once I've done the initial 6 week course you can meet up and enter competitions with your local team or just go to their shoot days to socialise.

Helpmeltb · 11/02/2018 18:11

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 11/02/2018 18:12

I joined a local netball team. I love it even though I’m rubbish
