To be angry at getting BNP guff thro' my letterbox?

Okay we have a Scottish election coming up.
Okay I know all about the principle of free speech.

But when I flick thro' a pile of election leaflets that the postie has just fired thro' my letterbox I do not expect or want to see anything from a bunch of bigoted racist arseholes.

Am I wrong?

No, not unreasonable. It's intimidating and offensive.

moondog · 30/04/2007 16:26

I fell it is the price we pay for living in a democracy.
It's a price i am happy tp pay.

trice · 30/04/2007 16:28

I feel quite threatened that some BNP activist has actually walked up to my house to put one of these through the letterbox. I saw a BNP stand in town last weekend and they looked like a bunch of skinhead loonies apart from the man at the table who was wearing a suit and an insincere smile.

pesme · 30/04/2007 16:28

agree with moondog but i was pretty p*ssed off too. tbh i wasn't exactly pleased to see any of the gurning fools presented on my leaflets as candidates to run the country.

unknownrebelbang · 30/04/2007 16:29

Much as I detest the BNP (and have had something shoved through today) I'm with Moondog.

moondog · 30/04/2007 16:31

I fell quite threatened that the foul lying greedy selfish Conservative pig also comes to my front door but y'know, that's politics for ya.

moondog · 30/04/2007 16:31

If I saw them on a stand, would make a point of going over to talk to them actually.

It's better than having it tied round a brick and heaved through your window, lady, know what I mean?

bobsmum · 30/04/2007 16:33

Greebos- the one I got pretty much said "THey come over 'ere stealin' our jobs...."

The comment about the neds made me smile though considering that most BNP supporters seem to be neds themselves!

No darling, the BNP stuff (you are another one on good form today )

tigerschick · 30/04/2007 16:40

I have to agree with moondog adn others. If free speech is what you want then you've got to allow everyone to have their say - you don't have to listen.

I also agree that it is quite daunting to think that someone so vile as to support the bnp has been that close to my house. But free speech has to win.

suedonim · 30/04/2007 16:43

Yabu - such guff gives people a lot of pleasure when they feed it into the shredder. Btw, the postie puts election pamphlets through our door, there's been neither hide nor hair of activists of any kind in our neck of the woods.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 30/04/2007 16:43

Well the lib dem delivery firl round here is very lovely (well that would be me LOL)

I got really annoyed by the BNP leaflet as ours basically said I should go back home (to england, in wales atm). It offered no explanation what should happen to my Grandad (lives in England born in Pembroke) or indeed my mother who is 50 /50 blod, shoudl she place a hut on the Severn bridge perhaps??? Ita lso accused us 'English' of taking all the resources, actually Dh works in england and spends here LOL!

felt dirty even touching the leaflet- it was screwed up and dispsed of ASAP.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 30/04/2007 16:44

(And I agree they shoudl be allowed to send it- they have tor eally- but it'll never make me not feel dirty touching it)

Cappuccino · 30/04/2007 16:46

good grief I agree with moondog twice in one day

what is the world coming to?

lol at scarf

bobsmum · 30/04/2007 16:51

Can I quote you some of the guff from the Mid Scotland and Fife election "campaign"? Mine came through the post so thankfully none of them have been to my house!!

Here are 2 highlights:

"Scotland has been flooded with immigrants from the EU, who squeeze locals out of jobs and push down wages. They strangle the economy be shipping their wages home"

or my personal fave:

"The BNP will restore discipline and traditional teaching methods to make sure all students are literate, numerate and well educated instead of being fed trendy PC nonsense." like your supporters eh?

NotanOtter · 30/04/2007 16:51

no i dont agree - i dont want that filth NEAR my kids

unknownrebelbang · 30/04/2007 16:53

I don't want ANY politician near my child.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 30/04/2007 16:53

ours wants to ensure that all kids receive the religious education that teaches RIGHT morals- exceopt then they want me (I paln to teach RE) to go home.

Prats.

vimfuego · 30/04/2007 16:57

I thought there was a BNP bib for sale on mumsnet, but I rubbed my eyes and saw it was a BNIP bib.

emsiewill · 30/04/2007 17:02

Not at all pleased to see it, but agree that it is the price you pay for democracy

I let dd1 read the leaflet (she's 10). She was incredulous at the load of rubbish on it.
