AIBU to think Ross from Friends was a terrible human? (lighthearted)

Rewatching now it's on Netflix and i had never previously realised how awful Ross is!

He's so possessive and manipulative while making out he's a nice guy victim all the time.
He's so superior all the time.
And don't even get me started on when he mocks Rachel and Phoebe for taking self defence classes and actually hides and Jumps out at them to prove he's right (hes obviously not right)

I know it's just a tv show but I absoutely loved friends when i was at college and loved Ross and Rachel and it's funny how differently I see some of it now...

Meh everyone hates Ross on mumsnet , the fact people are still arguing about it 24 years on says something about the show ? Having sky and comedy central which plays friends on a loop and has done for years I'm not getting the sudden interest tbh 🤔

I'm watching the epsidoe where it's his and Rachel's anniversary but she was busy so he took a picnic to her office. He's grinding the salt and set fire to the flowers. Just fuck off Ross she told you she was busy!

I don't think Carol treated him very well - he had good reason to be a bit paranoid. His wife cheated on him and left him for another woman!

And then Carol let Susan help name the child, tried to give Ben her surname, and then moved her in to her house before the baby was even born!

If this happened IRL, everyone would be slamming her as an awful mother who was trying to isolate Ross from his son.

He's the one I really couldn't stand as you said possessive, insecure, homophobic misogynist. I truly would find Friends 100% more enjoyable if he just wasn't in it

I agree with stickytoffeevodka i think Carol treated him really awfully, and then they say they're going to give the baby only carol and Susan's surnames! So mean.

Although when he insinuates Rachel is a prostitute to put off a guy chatting her up is pretty awful.

Lots of people don't have Comedy Central. Far more have Netflix.

I've been binge watching lately and find Monica intensely irritating. I never used to, but now I really can't stand her Confused So competitive and squeaky and annoying. Also Chandler gets boring once they get together. Still love Richard though, only man with a tache that I could

I used to find Phoebe incredibly annoying but she's grown on me a lot this time round...

Another one watching through older eyes now its on netflix. I find it nostalgic, escapist and still so so funny.

Ross was, and still is my favourite.

Ross is my favourite character. Pivot and MY SANDWICH are my two favourite episodes.

Ross is annoying but he's also one of the most well rounded characters. You can actually imagine meeting someone just like him. He was a bad boyfriend to Rachel but can also be a good friend and is a good brother to Monica.

Watching it back now, I cannot believe how much porn is mentioned. So many gay jokes too.

I'm no Mary Whitehouse, but how much porn is normalised in that show is quite shocking.
