Tbf they always have done
Most chocolate has gone from yummy to yak lately
But ripples have ALWAYS just been disappointing yacky poor man's flakes.

FluttershysCutieMarkTheHerald · 04/02/2018 01:57

YABU, I love ripples dipped in my coffee.

BrendasUmbrella · 04/02/2018 02:22

I have a major sweet tooth, but the sweets aisle in the supermarket has turned into a total head scratcher. I don't trust a chocolate bar from the supermarket to taste of anything but candle wax and bile now. I've turned to gummy sweets and popcorn! I would pay £20 for a real bar of Dairy Milk, no word of a lie...

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 04/02/2018 02:28

How dare you diss galaxy. Tis the loveliest chocolate. In fact I just polished off a large bag of Counters.

nursy1 · 04/02/2018 02:28

I agree. Dairy milk tastes like margarine and cocoa.

Lindt are still nice.

MonkeysMum75 · 04/02/2018 02:31

Try Hotel Chocolat. You can all thank me later Wink

GoBigOrange · 04/02/2018 02:57

I tried Hotel Chocolat a couple of years ago, and wasn't overly impressed. Toddled down the street to Montezuma instead. Now they do make some nice chocolate. Aldi also do good stuff - their Moser Roth is lovely (it is Moser Roth in the UK too right? I'm in the US).

And yes, ripples are lardy and peculiar. YANBU OP.

Pepperedbeef · 04/02/2018 06:41

Remember when Ripple’s wrapper was blue? I’ve always thought flake has the faint aroma of poo

BitOfFun · 04/02/2018 07:06

I used to really, properly love chocolate. I can't remember the last time I ate it though, because it's unworthy of the name. I don't even want to spend loads to eat "quality" brands- I just want an honest munch. Meh. It no longer exists.

lidoshuffle · 04/02/2018 07:09

Montezuma's white and plain chocolate slab (in the jars) with coffee grains is gorgeous. Or else I save up for a self selection from Fortnum's. That sounds expensive and posey but I save a fortune from not buying "sweet shop" choc now as it's so foul. Quality not quantity for me now!

AtlanticWaves · 04/02/2018 07:16

Lindt for me and The bonus is it's so rich I don't eat too much.

Cadburys is yuk now. I'll occasionally buy Galaxy when back in the U.K.

ArchchancellorsHat · 04/02/2018 07:20

The aldi own brand is good, the dairyfine one. No palm fat to be seen. But I wouldn't have any dairy milk again. Revolting stuff. A shame if galaxy has gone the same way as I used to like that.

lizzlebizzle33 · 04/02/2018 07:24

I chocolate had gone downhill in the last few years but you still can't go wrong with a Terry's chocolate orange! Or a toblerone for that matter.

Everything cadburys sucks, except Easter eggs, always good straight from the fridge.

Anniegetyourgun · 04/02/2018 07:27

It's in our interest really, all part of the secret government plan to discourage us from stuffing large quantities of chocolate because it's bad for us. Not that manufacturers are cutting back on decent ingredients to save money and think we're too stupid/addicted to notice, oh no.

I like Hotel Chocolat. Haven't come across Montezuma. Will keep an eye out.

humblesims · 04/02/2018 07:30

disagree; they've gone to shit too.

Giggorata · 04/02/2018 07:39

Isn’t chocolate all full of palm oil now? Along with everything else, I’ve noticed, even bread.
(If we want to stop deforestation and save the orang urban, we need to reject products containing palm oil).
I thought my tastes had changed over the years, so that I no longer enjoyed chocolate until I read that the recipes had changed to crap ingredients.. the dark Lidl bars are still good, though.

theHitcher · 04/02/2018 07:44

Flakes are still good. I can't thInk of any other cheap chocolate worth eating. If I want a decent chocolate flavour these days it's from homemade chocolate butter icing made of butter, cocoa powder and icing sugar.

bobstersmum · 04/02/2018 07:49

I hate ripples, I tried eating one in the car once and the bloody thing went all over me and by the time I got out I looked like I'd shat myself.

Fairylea · 04/02/2018 07:51

I love the taste of them but the mess they make puts me off eating them!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 04/02/2018 07:51

Can't remember. Must get a Ripple egg...

coffeeagogo · 04/02/2018 07:51

Agreed that apart from Lindt, it all tastes horrible. I can't even be bothered to eat chocolate now. I used to like the almond chocolate from Lidl but they've changed all of that too now Sad

Zaphodsotherhead · 04/02/2018 08:08

I've ALWAYS thought that Ripple (and Flake) taste like sick.

I'm perfectly at home with all forms of chocolate, but those two I really can't eat and never have. It can't be palm oil because this dates back as long as I can remember.

To me, they taste like American Hersheys chocolates (which also taste of sick).

dementedma · 04/02/2018 08:10

Ripples are the only chocolate bar I buy now. I love them.

Hippadippadation · 04/02/2018 08:12

Lindt and Ritter Sport is where it's at now.

StrawberrySquash · 04/02/2018 08:13

I don't understand why there hasn't been a national outcry over what's happened to Cadbury's. I resolved to buy less Cadbury's as a matter of principle, but it's just happened naturally because I just tend to fancy something else. But it still makes me sad.
