To be underwhelmed by the Spice Girls 'new projects'

ForalltheSaints · 03/02/2018 07:45

A group of people, only one of whom has any real talent, with their 'girl power' managed by a man.

Most musical reunions are never much, apart perhaps from Take That, in any case. Geri Horner spoke favourably about Margaret Thatcher, whose policies pushed many women into poverty.

Who was the one with talent? Confused

ForalltheSaints · 03/02/2018 07:48

Melanie Chisholm.

They were always an underwhelming product of the 90.

What did you expect?

mumspice · 03/02/2018 07:52

Odd to blame the group for their success, it was the fans that made them! Blame the fans!

It was a man's world. Still is. They did well in it and good for them.

lovelyjubilly · 03/02/2018 07:53

Mel C???? 😂

creamcheeseandlox · 03/02/2018 07:54

They are getting 10mil each for this reunion apparently. Hmm Victoria is insisting she's not singing so easy money for her then. Mel b obviously needs the money after her divorce not sure about the others. They need to just put it to bed now...

EnglishGirlApproximately · 03/02/2018 07:58

Mel C was marginally less tone deaf than the others, don’t know if I’d go as far as to say she’s talented though! I don’t know, I was never a fan and I’m definitely not their target market but I can’t help but have some admiration for people with little talent going a long way. They’ve become wealthy and successful out if sheer will power and ambition and there’s something to applaud in that.

Bigfatchips · 03/02/2018 07:59

I'm so underwhelmed I don't even know why I'm bothering to post Grin

hellsbells99 · 03/02/2018 08:54

I have seen Mel C in Jesus Christ Superstar and she was great.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 03/02/2018 08:58

Yeah, I saw the news item about them getting together again and wondered a) why is this news and b) who the hell is going to shell out to go to their concerts now?

If they are getting £10m each to reunite, the promoters will never earn that back and make a profit on top, surely? More fool them!

Mercurial123 · 03/02/2018 09:00

None of them have any talent but there are obviously people out there that still love them for some reason.... probably nostalgia.

TheSnowFairy · 03/02/2018 09:01

I didn't even recognise Mel B in that BBC pic...

VanillaSugar · 03/02/2018 09:02

I thought Geri Horner had said recently that she didn't want to do the reunion? Was that an elaborate bluff then?

MargotLovedTom1 · 03/02/2018 09:04

I thought there'd already been a reunion which didn't exactly set the world alight? Or was that not the whole group?
Hmm I read on here the other day that VB's fashion business is losing money at a rate of knots, so I wonder if that is her impetus for agreeing to this. Not that she hasn't got enough money anyway - fashion or no fashion!

Singlikemiranda · 03/02/2018 09:06

The thought of a reunion makes me cringe so badly

Wateroffaduck · 03/02/2018 09:10

Waste of money

k2p2k2tog · 03/02/2018 09:11

Victoria is insisting she's not singing

She never did first time round either!

I think I "missed" the Spice Girls first time round as I was in my 20s rather than my teens at the height of the whole girl power thing. I agree though that Mel C has the best voice and most vocal talent out of the lot of them.

pieceofpurplesky · 03/02/2018 09:13

Mel C was amazing in Blood Brothers too

blackteasplease · 03/02/2018 09:15

Mel C was the only one who was a good singer it's true.

fourmileswide · 03/02/2018 09:16

I read on here the other day
Well that's going to be the unbiased truth then, isn't it? Grin

ConciseandNice · 03/02/2018 09:19

I saw an American thread on this on FB yesterday and the Americans seem to be elated and really fell for the whole Girl Power marketing schtick. I agree with EnglishGirlApproximately, kudos to a group of singularly musically untalented people becoming rich from it. It's amazing. If I could become a multi-millionaire for something I couldn't do then I would!

MelanieSmooter · 03/02/2018 09:44

Who the hell is going to shell out to go to their concerts now?

Meeeeeee Grin My 8 year old self is giddy with the thought that I might actually see the Spice Girls.
Bonus points if Richard E Grant shows up with them on a tour bus.

123MothergotafleA · 03/02/2018 09:51

Spice Girls and the word " talent" = oxymoron.

Piffle11 · 03/02/2018 09:56

Mel C had the strongest voice (not difficult) but I don't think she had a good/pleasant voice. I find it kind of sad that they're doing this. Didn't their last get together result in poor ticket sales? I thought they had to cancel gigs last time. I'm surprised VB has agreed: saying she's not going to sing is a bit ridiculous ... I know she didn't sing much to start with, just the odd line, but not at all? So she's just going to stand there and pout? I think you can get away with it when you're 22 but when you're 42 (or whatever she is) and a supposed fashion designer ... just seems a bit bizarre. Mel B and Geri have always been fame and power hungry so no surprise they're interested. The other 2 just seem to do what they're told.

PoorYorick · 03/02/2018 10:01

I don't blame them. Give me 10 million or whatever and I'll happily stretch a Union Jack minidress over my fat bum and zig a zig aaah.
